Senior leader Blue Lady has second thoughts after 45 years

"I am SGI

I have been a YWD Leader, WD District Leader, and now a Chapter WD Ldr. I have practiced for almost 45 years. I know Nichiren Shoshu Academy, Nichiren Shoshu of America, and now the SGI. I have marched in the fife and drum, been to at least 20 States for conventions, and I am too pooped to pop.

The past 6 years plus have been hard for me to swallow. The whole Mentor and Disciple, now the ONENESS of Mentor and Disciple. It’s too much for my sensibilities anymore. I can only talk to 2 members about this whole idea of reaching enlightenment through the Mentor/Disciple relationship. That would mean the pioneers who came before us including my father would not have had the opportunity to reach enlightenment through this sort of new principal.

Hell I always considered Pres Ikeda my master back when I was in youth division. I have been practicing since the late 60’s. However that was my choice, it was not printed in publications, spoke about daily, on Sundays etc. Now you have to accept it or ….. I don’t know what the or really is?

Lately I have read The Autobiography of a Yogi, Fire in the Lotus, Old Path White Clouds, The Prophet Nichiren? Wake up to your life: Discovering the Buddhist path of Attention. The first 30 pages deal with picking your teacher. Very interesting…

So I am at a crossroads in my leadership duties. What If what I believe is a lie? The practice of chanting and GONGYO and reading the Gosho are fine with me. --- It’s the body of Leaders in the SGI that concern me. The constant reference to each and every Gosho as the oneness of Mentor and Disciple. What does that really mean? I thought to myself. The constant steam cooker – me and my district leaders operate under. Some of them are not participating in leaders meetings – They don’t jump like they did when they first began their practice. The endless last minute meetings where you are expected to drop everything. I am constantly told “I am going home and going to bed” or “I can’t make all these meetings”

We just had our May 3rd meeting it was FLAT nobody seemed to be enthusiastic about Rock the Era or none of what was going on stage. Clearly when it came to Pres Ikeda‘s video folks were flying out of the room to leave or go to the bathroom.

I have told Region leaders I want to give up my Chapter position - I only signed on for 3 years and its now been 9. Before that I was a District Leader for 20 years.

Guests come through the front door and leave out as members – in some cases never to be seen or heard of again.

I have other reasons that I don’t want to talk about just yet. I am whipped and beat and tired. I want to retire like any other Manager who has been on the job for 42 years, collect my gold watch, and leave.

I am funny if I think I can go out without a fight.

Also=========================================

From Reply to the Mother of Ueno… To reassure the lay nun Ueno that her son has attained Buddhahood, the Daishonin discusses the great benefit gained from embracing the Lotus Sutra, and asserts that a votary of the sutra will be protected by Shakyamuni, Many Treasures , and all the other Buddhas.

Hmmp don’t see any mention of living the oneness of mentor and disciple.

How many times in the Gosho did Nichiren emphasize that those who go against the Lotus Sutra suffer but those who continue to embrace it are Buddhas… Gee no mention here of the Oneness of Master and Disciple... oops they call it Mentor and Disciple now.

Nichiren states of Shichiro Goro in the Gosho of the same name…. "At an early age, having not yet turned twenty, he began chanting Namu Myoho-renge-kyo and thus he became a Buddha. This is what the sutra means when it says: Then not a one will fail to attain Buddhahood.”

Gee again no mention of this mentor and disciple relationship. It seems to be the relationship between us and the Lotus Sutra." -- Blue Lady

  1. Darl'n....your key phrase is "it's too much for my sensibilities anymore." NSA/SGI initially had asked everyone to use their sensibilities to evaluate their existing religious beliefs and then to try this Buddhism - and to adhere to your sensibilities. And like yourself, I am intrigued by this website, the knowledge of the good Doc., the fire-breathing invectives of Greg.......but, my dear, take my hand and lets not throw the baby out with the bath water....lets put Doc. Rogow through the paces together and think this process out. This is a very important thread I believe.....maybe we can squeeze the sensei-ists to come forth and explain the process of their mind-set. I will be adding more to this discussion even later today....First up?.....the discussion of chanting namu - myoho renge kyo.....it just doesn't sound quite as sweet!heir "sensibilities" paid a price. You are not alone in your feelings - I am currently there likewise.nd I am glad that you have braved your heart on this site along with many othersword is

    1. chant namu myoho renge kyo and follow nichiren to the best of your ability. the buddha and his ordained messenger, and teacher for the latter day taught that the correct action for the latter day is to take faith in the lotus sutra. one enters thru faith and continues thru prayer. not any prayer....a correct prayer.////if one does this they will come to a correct understanding with a correct mind/heart.//// there are no so called sects that follow this ....eagle peak is the place to study maxwell101. arbitrary opinion is not necessary. sgi/nsa is pure poison .

    4. Thank-you Greg for your calm and insightful response to the above.....no doubt, however, we shall cross swords eventually.....hopefully, with the composure as gentlemen - which, will certainly challenge our preferred ? natures! I grew up with that Tareyton commercial - "Id rather fight than switch!" Now, you talk about doctrine, and I agree, few if any I know could bravely and willingly step up to the plate with Mark. And he shows you where it is written. Likewise, the Jehovah Witnesses are dying to show you where their interpretation of the Bible, their Bible?, proves that Jesus is NOT God, but an Angel...etc., etc. I told them, "I don't believe in the Abrahamic tradition of God, god ?, therefore, the Bible either.....but, I will attend your Church to see the life condition of your people......they were horrid! - Good, very good and upright people, but their inner spark was horrid. My point being, all of your doctrinal knowledgeable abilities can only be appreciated and considered if you first of all BELIEVE!.....Now, we all got our first experience in faith by Proof....through my dear fellows, by chanting Nam Myoho Renge Kyo to a Nittatsu Gohonzon.....and that is perhaps, an uncomfortable truth. To that end, is it much of a stretch to say that it was because of Daisaku Ikeda that we are, in whatever capacity, Buddhist today? That is, without Toda and Ikeda, we probably would never had heard of this Buddhism. This does not mean that we owe anybody or any organization our everlasting loyalty because they were first. It is because there is a certain "disruption in the force" - unfamiliar, that some are venturing out for answers. Some of this has to be attributable to an aging President and of the uncertainty of what will come after. This is only natural. ......More, much more later....

    5. So many illogical assertions from a Nichiren Buddhist perspective. According to Nichiren, it is thanks to we ourselves that we have encountered the Daimoku (auspicious causation).

Our interpretation of the Lotus Sutra is Nichiren's interpretation of the Lotus Sutra.

Unfortunately, your sparkle test doesn't pass the smell test. In the Kanjin Honzon Sho, Nichiren's most important work, he teaches that the Four Noble Worlds are not visible in the face. Rather, they manifest as the noble character of the believer. SGI members are berefft of compassion, honesty, and true and absolute faith in the Lotus Sutra. The are disengenuous and lack gratitude for Shakyamuni Buddha and Nichiren Daishonin.

You are over your head coming here and making your vapid assertions. Be careful, be very careful.

    6. and maxwell, your thinly failed threat does not mean shit. if u insist on being stupid and continue to turn your back on what the buddha and nichiren taught, thats your problem and nobody here gives a shit. continue to chant your truncated daimoku, live in a deeper delusion and cut your own throat with your double edge sword. for me, if i did not believe what nichiren taught....spending my time chanting what he brought would make no sense. however, for a short time america is still the land of the free and home of the very stupid. free to choose but not free from the effects of those choices.

  2. To Macwell’s defense of SGIKEDA, I strongly believe that anyone who feels “ beholding to” or in any way “ dependent upon” SGIKEDA. Has not yet encountered the Buddha’s teaching ; has not embraced Nichiren’s Lotus Sutra Buddhism — therefore , absent faith in the Lotus Sutra, these folks lack wisdom —— cannot possibly grasp the merit / benefit / fortune one gains from FAITH in the Lotus Sutra and deep reverence and gratitude for Shakyamuni Buddha. The sparkle and shine of material benefits , status and personal comfort begins to erode the moment the rapture is felt —- repacked by the desire for “ more”— that is what SGIKEDA banks on !!
Talk is cheap, Maxwell - you will not comprehend what is presented here until you put forth at least 3 months worth of concentrated effort , chanting the dsimoku as Nichiren wrote it , and forging a mind of faith in the Lotus Sutra.

To argue - no matter how eloquently , with one who feels gratitude for a common mortal who by all intents and purposes , has exploited people for personal gain with a shoddy rendition of kanto Tendai, is useless.

Try seeking the Buddha and stop looking for a “ battle”that is actually waged from your attachments to sentiments and “ stuff”—- Tead the translation of the portions of the Lotus Sutra Nichiren recommended for daily recitation ( Gongyo)— if you don’t realize the Buddha’s intent was for us to seek “ the Buddha”—-I would suggest that your time with SGIKEDA has left you severely impaired !

  3. Oprah Winfrey wanted to give thanks to the man that first noticed her and then chartered her course to world fame....but, he would not accept her offer saying that her light shone so brightly that her ascent was preordained - it had nothing to do with himself. Something akin to what you alluded to Mark - auspicious causation - But, there is an inherent danger if philosophical explanations are given complete governance over what can be explained and graphically proven.....for instance, if Buddhism should ever achieve acceptance as Sharia Law has in some parts of the Mideast, then Judges would then attribute what percentage of the penalty to the victim, saying it was partly the victims fault, for it is his/her karma also....auspicious causation? Mark, I never said that you owed any gratitude to anyone because you were introduced to Buddhism by an NSA member, but you took it as an inference and got pissy with me...your nose doesn't fully knows, and, "be careful, be very careful" or what Mark? - you naughty little boy, you knew how excited I would behave at such lashing invectives and Greg, please join in, tie me up and spank me royally....harder, harder, I love it...Oh!, it hurts so good! I've known the two of you for over 6 years now and nothing, an I mean nothing excites you more than occasions like this! Did we watch the last episode of Waco this week? That David K., he could recite the Bible verbatim, and also like you Doc., he was too intelligent for his own good. I once was an angry young Christian hater.....always looking for a good fight....and every time, except once, I was able to excite anger in these Christians and make it a brawl- except that once.....that man looked and listened to me with such understanding, compassion and empathy that he completely flipped me upside down....he had me almost crying by the time we parted ways. I was completely crushed by his goodness. Every time the two, now the three of you encounter a wayward soul you are given an opportunity to do unimaginable good.....how you touch their hearts is the key. Obviously, Blue Lady has come and gone, hasn't she, for your behavior might have been modified if she was currently part of this discussion.....people will come to this site no doubt, but they won't dive into another frying pan head first if they were to read your nasty reply's as evidenced above.....and Blue Lady, if your out there still reading this site, tell me if I'm the one who is full of it! So Mark, this is your site and I'm ready to be vaporized, but before I go, it was Nov., Dec., of 2011 that we clashed on "Fraught with Peril".....I don't think at the time you were chanting Namu, but I was half-way out the door, heading for San. Fran. for the winter and I sent you a tip.....I told you to take the spread and bet the farm on the Patriots beating the miracle maker Tim Tebow and the Brancos....had you done so, you could have had your very own church..I still have questions about chanting namu....I would have liked to hear a room full of people chanting such as there are so many examples on youtube of nam myoho....also, because it is easier to chant nam-myoho, are you chanting as much namu....it's ok to take a pass on this request, do what and say what you will....

    1. Figures that you woukdn't want to supplant the Magna Carta way with the Way of the Lotus Sutra. Too bad your mentor used to feel differently (obutsu myogo - which is roughly translated as the oneness of society and the Mystic Law).

Too intelligent for my own good..far better than too stupid.

You are the one coming into my "house" asserting that we will cross swords and you, the woosy that you are, exclaim that I'm getting pissy. I maintain that you are the one with a cloudy mirrir because of your warped faith and practice. As far as what will happen to you if you are not careful, I fully expect you mind split into seven pieces.

You don't believe the Lotus Sutra and Nichiren and his Rissho Ankoku Ron regarding the apostate slanderers and you have been royally deceived by the sweet talking Christian as you are by your sweet talking mentor. You would be better off believing the Lotus Sutra and Nichiren. By the way maxy, interfaith is a great slander axxording to Nichiren. The Lotus Sutra is not an ecumenical document.

I will continue to chant Namu Myoho renge kyo until the time I can no longer chant.

How to get through to a slanderer according to Nichiren and my experience is break and subdue. The Christian employed a type of peaceful practice on you and you remain a deluded common mortal. By coming here you will either become a true Bodhisattva of the Earth with the same mind as Nichiren or you will leave never to again rear your ugly head.

Let's give the viewing audience a chance to vote on what is an ugly head....put yours on display and I'll follow suite....if it's not physical appearances you are alluding to here, then let's submit our reply's in this thread to a panel of (to your choosing, dude....intellectual, voluptuous, whatever) females, and ask them - who would you rather date?......let's put all that BS you spout out into verifiable desirability! .....I'm thinking, if your vulgarity matches your looks, we're talking Klaus Kinsky as Nosferatu!.....your a dead ringer, aren't you?

As the abbommination that is SGI spreads, we see only more and more nukes, more and more calamities, more and more natural and manmade disasters, and the rampancy of the Three Poisons. Thankfilly, as the SGI counterfeit Law has already spread, the spread of the True Law can not be far behind.

    6. in the late 60's and up till the middle 70's the soka gakkai/nsa/nst bragged about how great japan was doing in so many ways. lots and lots of flag waving and ikeda and the sgi/nsa so happy to take credit for a "be like america" recovery after being soundly defeated and receiving much visible punishment. america is on the same path. the proud recipients of not one but two atomic bombs. instead of heeding the good words of the votary nichiren and realizing this event was the effect of deep slander of the law + shinto...worship of the emperor. instead , known for their extreme arrogance, the perverters of buddhism proudly took credit for the nations 20 year recovery. truth is the japanese people would have believed in a roll of toilet paper if someone told them it would help them./// when one understands that people started mixing the teachings(myoho renge kyo), and turning their backs on what the buddha/nichiren actually taught 100 years after nichirens death and none of the sects abide by or follow the good medicine meant for the modern day. this is why nichiren warned that there are two main reasons why people/buddhism goes wrong. 1. ignorant of the teachings, 2. follow a bad leader.

sgi taught...enlightment and buddha hood in 15 years. yeah right

what we see today is not the lotus sutra being upheld , but only really slandered. the effects of this are not only japan now living on an atomic bomb but total chaos and negative effects in our world/country. some one said.."if you are not outraged, you are not paying attention". how can things get any better?

when i encounter an nst or sgi member....within minutes it is clear that they have no understanding of the teachings of the original buddha or his teacher for the latter day, nichiren. in 99% of the cases, regardless of how long that person has been a member...they have minimal , if any understanding of the real teachings. so therefore , it is impossible to have a reasonable dialogue with that person.

the buddha/nichiren teach that for the latter day, the correct action is to take FAITH IN THE LOTUS SUTRA(MYOHO RENGE KYO...this is first and foremost. one enters through faith and faith alone. through faith comes wisdom and understanding. the practice is faith, practice and study(not the stupid human revolution). it is clear that buddhism is not an intellectual exercise and there is no room for silly ego. shakubuku means to break attachments to wrong teachings/though/preparatory, and to subdue ones selfish/childish ego.//// max , forget what u learned or saw with your past experience. it is wrong. the best advice is...chant NAMU MYOHO RENGE KYO with faith, follow nichiren to the best of your ability, study real buddhism. eagle peak is a good place as our teacher is nichiren. we can help with that. and u will begin to understand.

in short , what makes sgi/nst/shu a bad place to be is that their agenda is not the same as the buddhas or the leader of the B. O. E. (NAM) - IF ONE WOULD CHANGE THE ONE ESSENTIAL PHRASE , WHAT ELSE WOULD THEY CHANGE? = EVERYTHING!

      good luck.
