Nichiren inscribed Gohonzon, and then said it is the World of Buddha, not the life of Nichiren."

No Paul, when the Daishonin praises the saving power of the Lotus Sutra over and over again and then one comes across one single lone passage out of context that seems to contradict the other many dozens of passages, it behooves one to strive and understand the lone discordant passage, not the other way around. In this passage the Daishonin is speaking about the practice of the Lotus Sutra in Mappo, not about faith in the Sutra (NAMU Myoho renge kyo).
