My dog Honey-Sue by Greg Romero

                        ...........................MY DOG HONEY-SUE...........................

honey sue has a Bodhisattva nature. she is kind and generous and she is all dog. she loves to run and can run like the wind. i found honey-sue on the street(abandoned) when she was 2 or 3 months old. after we were together for 2 or 3 hours, she fell in love with me and we have had a wonderful relationship ever since. neighbors stop by to let their dog , who does not get along with any other dogs, play with honey. after about 3 months honey-sue began to have seizures. she would throw up bile, start to foam at the mouth , fall over , become stiff and begin to violently shake. during these episodes i and my roommate, who is not a buddhist would chant namu myoho renge kyo for her and i would speak to her in an encouraging way. after about 3 minutes she would relax but for a time, she was nervous and disoriented. then soon she would be just fine. yes, i did take her to the vet but to keep this short i will skip that part. she would have these fits about ever 3 to 4 weeks . very hard to watch. over about 1 year they began to get less and less. less in duration and less in violence. i didn't like it much and would chant for her health. one day myself and honey-sue were out side and were approached by a neighbor who i just said hello to once in awhile. as we were talking honey began throw up , signaling a seizure. the woman neighbor said , your dog seems sick, she must have eaten something not good for her. my reply was, no , she is about to go into a seizure and it is not pretty. i said, please excuse me but i am a buddhist and i am going to chant for her. this is what i do. at that point i began in a medium voice to chant for her . the woman grabbed my arm and held it firm,. seizures are hard to watch. after about three minutes she was ok and we went back in side the house. end of story? No. one hour later there is a knock on my door, unusual. there stands the neighbor with a gift in her hand and a smile on her face. she asked me , what were those words you were saying . what you did for you dog was so loving and beautiful and i wanted to give you this gift. we talked about shakyamuni buddha and his teachings and about buddhism in general. we share a very pleasant conversation for 40 minutes. since then honey-sue has gotten better and better. now her last 3 episodes she throws up as before and that is the end of it. no fit. she is fine. honey-sue and i did a very pleasant shakubuku and she and i both changed our karma.

done right, the power of this practice is amazing. cheers
