Why do we recite the Ten Factors [Ten Thusnesses, Ten Suchnesses] three times?

The first one to answer correctly gets five Sutra books.

  1. If I recall (and that's not something I do very well LOL), each of these ten factors are all possessed by each of the ten worlds, making one hundred factors. Since the ten worlds are all each endowed with the ten worlds, this makes one thousand factors. By chanting them 3 times, once for each of the 3 realms of existence, it makes three thousand factors (ichinen sanzen).

For my own sake I hope I got it right LOL

  2. Well that stinks LOL I should have gone with my instinct but I don't think that will be right either. My new answer is because the sutra book says to chant it 3 times...you can stop laughing now. At least I hope you're laughing!

  3. No Sutra books for you is not a laughing matter.

  4. I did not mean this to be disrespectful...if you took it that way, please accept my apologies. You've known me a long time...I might be goofy at times, and I might have had issues making up my mind about things, but I am never disrespectful in matters of the Dharma. I learned a long time ago to laugh at myself. It's what keeps me sane, for the most part.

My apologies if I've offended you, or anyone else here.
