Ebola virus can become airborne. Not likely, however. In 1990, ebola was known to have mutated into the aerosolized [airborne] Reston variant that fortunately only infects pigs and non-human primates. In order to become aerosolized into a human variant, the current Zaire strain would have to radically modify its outer coating to be able to withstand the drying effects of air. A radical mutation would have to result.
Is it unwise to transport Ebola victims to the United States or anywhere outside a very limited local radius? Transport is antithetical to quarantine and community containment, regardless of the technology and precautions taken.
