"I have met the DaiGohonzon" -- Nichiren Shoshu member

Since when is "meeting" one of the Three Proofs?

  1. I was a member from several years before the excommunication. I remember a fellow Youth Division Chapter leader remarking that he and his wife were going to have to be ready to open up their house much more, so that members could chant to a gohonzon (now that the Nichiren Shoshu priesthood was no longer issuing gohonzons). My District WD leader clarified that people had to *see* a gohonzon in order to attain enlightenment.

"So what about blind people?" I asked.

"Oh, well, they simply need to be *close* to a gohonzon," she answered triumphantly.

"How close? Two feet? Two blocks? In the same county?" No answer.

There was very definitely the idea pre-excommunication that the gohonzon was essential to enlightenment, and that our xerox copies were an extension of the Dai-Gohonzon. It all went back to the Dai-Gohonzon and how essential it was.

    Now? Not so much O_O
