Understanding the web of karmic causality

Although the web of karmic causality is quite complex, one characteristic of awakening is the ability to know the way of the world and to see reality as it is. For example, Nichiren teaches, "And that will in no way be her fault [if she talks bad about her husband], but solely the result of his own reprehensible behavior.” Being able to correctly ascribe blame is part of knowing the world and being able to see things as they really are.

  1. But the Buddha himself tells us, "Among men there is no one who is not blamed. People blame him who sits silent and him who speaks; they also blame the man who preaches the middle path." He also said, "The mind is wavering and restless, difficult to guard and restrain. Let the wise man straighten his mind as a maker of arrows makes his arrow straight."

It's easy to be swept up by the currents of the present moment, but difficult to ascertain their underlying causes.
