Buddhism: [from the Dhammapada]
” In this world hate never yet dispelled hate. Only love dispels hate. This is the law, Ancient and inexhaustible. ”

“All things, including you too shall pass away. Knowing this, how can you quarrel?
“It is better to conquer your own mind, than to win a thousand battles.”
“The mind is everything; what you think you become”
“It is a man’s own mind, not his enemy or foe, that lures him to evil ways.”
“Never speak harsh words. For they will rebound upon you.”
“Health is the greatest gift, contentment the greatest wealth”
“Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.”
Islam: (From the Koran)
“cast terror into the hearts of the infidels. Strike off their heads”
“Men have authority over women because God has made the one superior to the other,”
“When the sacred months are over slay the idolaters wherever you find them”
“Believers, make war on the infidels who dwell around you.”
“Believers, know that the idolaters [non-Muslims] are unclean. ”
“Jews are like pigs and monkeys”
“Reclining in paradise with bashful virgins for companions, they will call for abundant fruit and drink.”
“Women are your fields: go, then, into your fields whence you please.”
How have Muslims defended this?....and no, I'm not asking this question to be confrontational....for instance, Christians explain Jehovah's directive for Moses to stone-to-death someone who gathered kindling on the Sabbath (15:32-36 NKJV) : the Old Testament was during a "Time of the Law" - a time in our historicity when humans needed strictness and the fear of disobedience....followed by the advent of Jesus who then proclaimed a new era, an era of "Grace."....thus, this their rationale. So then, we are told that Islam is NOW (?) a religion of peace and beauty....and again, I ask anyone who can answer this question without contempt, but as a student for learning......by max...
ReplyDeleteThey defend it the same way Soka Gakkai members defend their bizarre idealogy and doctrine, "Nichiren said that but meant this."("Mohammad said that but meant this.").
