The Buddhism of the Lotus Sutra from Greg's Facebook Page
39-Even among those who embrace the lotus sutra very few uphold it steadfastly both in mind and in deed. But those who do will not suffer serious retribution even if they have committed minor offences against Buddhism. Their strong faith expiates their sins as surely as a flood extinguishes tiny fires.
40-If we see a person commit slander and make no effort to stop him even though he could be saved; we betray our great gifts of sight and hearing and so commit an act of utter mercilessness.
41-Chang-an wrote, “If you befriend another but lack the mercy and courage to correct him, you are in fact his enemy”….The most important thing is to continually strengthen your compassion to save others from their slanderous nature.
42-Reprove a person for acting against Buddhism when necessary so that both of you can forestall the consequences of slander.
43-If a believer’s offence is slight forgive him and lead him to obtain benefits. If it is serious admonish him to strengthen his faith so that he can expiate his sins.
44-Always be determined to denounce slanders against true Buddhism to the best of your ability.-THE

The Jesuit Oath is the scripture that mandates Jesuits to hate and persecute Nichiren Buddhists, Protestants, and all others who refuse to bow to the vicar of Rome.
When a Jesuit of the minor rank is to be elevated to command, he is conducted into the Chapel of the Convent of the Order, where there are only three others present, the principal or Superior standing in front of the altar.
On either side stands a monk, one of whom holds a banner of yellow and white, which are the Papal colors, and the other a black banner with a dagger and red cross above a skull and crossbones, with the word INRI, and below them the words IUSTUM NECAR REGES IMPIUS.
The meaning of which is:
It is just to exterminate or annihilate impious or heretical Kings, Governments, or Rulers
Upon the floor is a red cross at which the postulant or candidate kneels.
The Superior hands him a small black crucifix, which he takes in his left hand and presses to his heart, and the Superior at the same time presents to him a dagger, which he grasps by the blade and holds the point against his heart, the Superior still holding it by the hilt, and thus addresses the postulant:

My son, heretofore you have been taught to act the dissembler: among Roman Catholics to be a Roman Catholic, and to be a spy even among your own brethren; to believe no man, to trust no man.
Among the Reformers, to be a Reformer; among the Huguenots, to be a Huguenot; among the Calvinists, to be a Calvinist; among other Protestants, generally to be a Protestant; and obtaining their confidence, to seek even to preach from their pulpits, and to denounce with all the vehemence in your nature our Holy Religion and the Pope; and even to descend so low as to become a Jew among Jews, that you might be enabled to gather together all information for the benefit of your Order as a faithful soldier of the Pope.
You have been taught to plant insidiously the seeds of jealousy and hatred between communities, provinces, states that were at peace, and to incite them to deeds of blood, involving them in war with each other, and to create revolutions and civil wars in countries that were independent and prosperous, cultivating the arts and the sciences and enjoying the blessings of peace; to take sides with the combatants and to act secretly with your brother Jesuit, who might be engaged on the other side, but openly opposed to that with which you might be connected, only that the Church might be the gainer in the end, in the conditions fixed in the treaties for peace and that the end justifies the means.
You have been taught your duty as a spy, to gather all statistics, facts and information in your power from every source; to ingratiate yourself into the confidence of the family circle of Protestants and heretics of every class and character, as well as that of the merchant, the banker, the lawyer, among the schools and universities, in parliaments and legislatures, and the judiciaries and councils of state, and to be all things to all men, for the Pope’s sake, whose servants we are unto death.
You have received all your instructions heretofore as a novice, a neophyte, and have served as co-adjurer, confessor and priest, but you have not yet been invested with all that is necessary to command in the Army of Loyola in the service of the Pope. You must serve the proper time as the instrument and executioner as directed by your superiors; for none can command here who has not consecrated his labours with the blood of the heretic; for "without the shedding of blood no man can be saved".
Therefore, to fit yourself for your work and make your own salvation sure, you will, in addition to your former oath of obedience to your order and allegiance to the Pope, repeat after me:

I_______________ , now in the presence of Almighty God, the blessed Virgin Mary, the blessed St. John the Baptist, the Holy Apostles, St. Peter and St. Paul, and all the saints, sacred host of Heaven, and to you, my Ghostly Father, the superior general of the Society of Jesus, founded by St. Ignatius Loyola, in the pontification of Paul the Third, and continued to the present, do by the womb of the Virgin, the matrix of God, and the rod of Jesus Christ, declare and swear that His Holiness, the Pope, is Christ’s Vice-Regent and is the true and only head of the Catholic or Universal Church throughout the earth; and that by the virtue of the keys of binding and loosing given to His Holiness by my Saviour, Jesus Christ, he hath power to depose heretical Kings, Princes, States, Commonwealths, and Governments, and they may be safely destroyed.
Therefore to the utmost of my power I will defend this doctrine and His Holiness’s right and custom against all usurpers of the heretical or Protestant authority whatever, especially the Lutheran Church of Germany, Holland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway, and the now pretended authority and Churches of England and Scotland, and the branches of same now established in Ireland and on the continent of America and elsewhere and all adherents in regard that they may be usurped and heretical, opposing the sacred Mother Church of Rome.
I do now denounce and disown any allegiance as due to any heretical king, prince or State, named Protestant or Liberal, or obedience to any of their laws, magistrates or officers.
I do further declare the doctrine of the Churches of England and Scotland of the Calvinists, Huguenots, and others of the name of Protestants or Masons to be damnable, and they themselves to be damned who will not forsake the same. I do further declare that I will help, assist, and advise all or any of His Holiness’s agents, in any place where I should be, in Switzerland, Germany, Holland, Ireland or America, or in any other kingdom or territory I shall come to, and do my utmost to extirpate the heretical Protestant or Masonic doctrines and to destroy all their pretended powers, legal or otherwise.
I do further promise and declare that, notwithstanding, I am dispensed with to assume any religion heretical for the propagation of the Mother Church’s interest; to keep secret and private all her agents’ counsels from time to time, as they entrust me, and not to divulge, directly or indirectly, by word, writing or circumstances whatever; but to execute all that should be proposed, given in charge, or discovered unto me by you, my Ghostly Father, or any of this sacred order.
I do further promise and declare that I will have no opinion or will of my own or any mental reservation whatever, even as a corpse or cadaver (perinde ac cadaver), but will unhesitatingly obey each and every command that I may receive from my superiors in the militia of the Pope and of Jesus Christ.
That I will go to any part of the world whithersoever I may be sent, to the frozen regions north, jungles of India, to the centres of civilization of Europe, or to the wild haunts of the barbarous savages of America without murmuring or repining, and will be submissive in all things, whatsoever is communicated to me.
I do further promise and declare that I will, when opportunity presents, make and wage relentless war, secretly and openly, against all heretics, Protestants and Masons, as I am directed to do, to extirpate them from the face of the whole earth; and that I will spare neither age, sex nor condition, and that will hang, burn, waste, boil, flay, strangle, and bury alive these infamous heretics; rip up the stomachs and wombs of their women, and crush their infants’ heads against the walls in order to annihilate their execrable race.
That when the same cannot be done openly I will secretly use the poisonous cup, the strangulation cord, the steel of the poniard, or the leaden bullet, regardless of the honor, rank, dignity or authority of the persons, whatever may be their condition in life, either public or private, as I at any time may be directed so to do by any agents of the Pope or Superior of the Brotherhood of the Holy Father of the Society of Jesus.
In confirmation of which I hereby dedicate my life, soul, and all corporal powers, and with the dagger which I now receive I will subscribe my name written in my blood in testimony thereof; and should I prove false, or weaken in my determination, may my brethren and fellow soldiers of the militia of the Pope cut off my hands and feet and my throat from ear to ear, my belly be opened and sulphur burned therein with all the punishment that can be inflicted upon me on earth, and my soul shall be tortured by demons in eternal hell forever.
That I will in voting always vote for a Knight of Columbus in preference to a Protestant, especially a Mason, and that I will leave my party so to do; that if two Catholics are on the ticket I will satisfy myself which is the better supporter of Mother Church and vote accordingly. That I will not deal with or employ a Protestant if in my power to deal with or employ a Catholic. That I will place Catholic girls in Protestant families that a weekly report may be made of the inner movements of the heretics.
That I will provide myself with arms and ammunition that I may be in readiness when the word is passed, or I am commanded to defend the Church either as an individual or with the militia of the Pope.
All of which I,_______________, do swear by the blessed Trinity and blessed sacrament which I am now to receive to perform and on part to keep this my oath.
In testimony hereof, I take this most holy and blessed sacrament of the Eucharist and witness the same further with my name written with the point of this dagger dipped in my own blood and seal in the face of this holy sacrament.
(He receives the wafer from the Superior and writes his name with the point of his dagger dipped in his own blood taken from over his heart.)

You will now rise to your feet and I will instruct you in the Catechism necessary to make yourself known to any member of the Society of Jesus belonging to this rank. In the first place, you, as a Brother Jesuit, will with another mutually make the ordinary sign of the cross as any ordinary Roman Catholic would; then one crosses his wrists, the palms of his hands open, and the other in answer crosses his feet, one above the other; the first points with forefinger of the right hand to the centre of the palm of the left, the other with the forefinger of the left hand points to the centre of the palm of the right; the first then with his right hand makes a circle around his head, touching it; the other then with the forefinger of his left hand touches the left side of his body just below his heart; the first then with his right hand draws it across the throat of the other, and the latter then with a dagger down the stomach and abdomen of the first.
The first then says Iustum; and the other answers Necar; the first Reges; the other answers Impious. The first will then present a small piece of paper folded in a peculiar manner, four times, which the other will cut longitudinally and on opening the name Jesu will be found written upon the head and arms of a cross three times. You will then give and receive with him the following questions and answers:
From whither do you come? Answer: The Holy faith.
Whom do you serve? Answer: The Holy Father at Rome, the Pope, and the Roman Catholic Church Universal throughout the world.
Who commands you? Answer: The Successor of St. Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus or the Soldiers of Jesus Christ.
Who received you? Answer: A venerable man in white hair.
How? Answer: With a naked dagger, I kneeling upon the cross beneath the banners of the Pope and of our sacred order.
Did you take an oath? Answer: I did, to destroy heretics and their governments and rulers, and to spare neither age, nor sex, nor condition; to be as a corpse without any opinion or will of my own, but to implicitly obey my Superiors in all things without hesitation or murmuring.
Will you do that? Answer: I will.
How do you travel? Answer: In the bark of Peter the fisherman.
Whither do you travel? Answer: To the four quarters of the globe.
For what purpose? Answer: To obey the orders of my General and Superiors and execute the will of the Pope and faithfully fulfill the conditions of my oaths.
Go ye, then, into all the world and take possession of all lands in the name of the Pope. He who will not accept him as the Vicar of Jesus and his Vice-Regent on earth, let him be accursed and exterminated.

The Lotus Sutra guarantees the faithful, "peace and security in this life and a fortunate birth in the next."
Chapter 18, The Benefits of Responding With Joy teaches in the prose section:
“Moreover, Ajita, suppose a person for the sake of this sutra visits a monks’ quarters and, sitting or standing, even for a moment listens to it and accepts it. As a result of the benefits so obtained, when he is reborn in his next existence he will enjoy the finest, most superior and wonderful elephants, horses, and carriages, and palanquins decked with rare treasures, and will mount up to the heavenly palaces. Or suppose there is a person who is sitting in the place where the Law is expounded, and when another person appears, the first person urges him to sit down and listen, or offers to share his seat and so persuades him to sit down. The benefits gained by this person will be such that when he is reborn he will be in a place where the lord Shakra is seated, where the heavenly king Brahma is seated, or where a wheel-turning sage king is seated.
“Ajita, suppose there is a person who speaks to another person, saying, ‘There is a sutra called the Lotus. Let us go together and listen to it.’ And suppose, having been urged, the other person goes and even for an instant listens to the sutra. The benefits of the first person will be such that when he is reborn he will be born in the same place as dharani bodhisattvas. He will have keen faculties and wisdom. For a hundred, a thousand, ten thousand ages he will never be struck dumb. His mouth will not emit a foul odor. His tongue will never be afflicted, nor will his mouth be afflicted. His teeth will not be stained or black, nor will they be yellow or widely spaced, nor will they be missing or fall out or be at an angle or crooked. His lips will not droop down or curl back or be rough or chapped or afflicted with sores or misshapen or twisted or too thick or too big or black or discolored or unsightly in any way. His nose will not be too broad or flat or crooked or too highly arched. His face will not be swarthy, nor will it be long and narrow, or sunken and distorted. He will not have a single unsightly feature. His lips, tongue, and teeth will all be handsomely proportioned. His nose will be long and high, his face round and full, his eyebrows long and set high, his forehead broad, smooth, and well shaped, and he will be endowed with all the features proper to a human being. In each existence he is born into, he will see the Buddha, hear his Law, and have faith in his teachings.
“Ajita, just observe! The benefits gained merely by encouraging one person to go and listen to the Law are such as this! How much more, then, if one single-mindedly hears, preaches, reads, and recites the sutra and before the great assembly makes distinctions for the sake of people and practices it as the sutra instructs!”
and in the verse section:
"I will now describe one’s blessings.
In existences to come among heavenly and human beings
one will acquire wonderful elephants, horses, carriages,
palanquins adorned with rare jewels,
and will mount to the palaces of heaven.
If in the place where the Law is expounded
one encourages someone to sit and hear the sutra,
the blessings one acquires will enable one
to gain the seat of Shakra, Brahma, and the wheel-turner.
How much more so if one listens single-mindedly,
explains and expounds the meaning,
and practices the sutra as the sutra instructs—
one’s blessings will know no bounds!"
In Chapter 28, Encouragements of the Bodhisattva Universal Worthy, we read:
“Their wishes will not be in vain, and in this present existence they will gain the reward of good fortune.”
and also,
“In this present existence he will have manifest reward for it.”
Nichiren has this to say in one of his most important writings which often brings tears of joy to my eyes:
"This sutra passage and my own experience tally exactly. By now all the doubts that I have raised earlier should be dispelled, and thousands of difficulties are nothing to me. Let me show you phrase by phrase how the text applies to me. “They may be despised,” or, as the Lotus Sutra says, people will “despise, hate, envy, or bear grudges against them”—and in exactly that manner I have been treated with contempt and arrogance for over twenty years. “They may be cursed with an ugly appearance,” “They may be poorly clad”—these too apply to me. “They may be poorly fed”—that applies to me. “They may seek wealth in vain”—that applies to me. “They may be born to an impoverished and lowly family”—that applies to me. “They may be persecuted by their sovereign”—can there be any doubt that the passage applies to me? The Lotus Sutra says, “Again and again we will be banished,” and the passage from the Parinirvāna Sutra says, “They may be subjected to various other sufferings and retributions.” [These passages also apply to me.]
The passage also says, “It is due to the blessings obtained by protecting the Law that they can diminish in this lifetime their suffering and retribution.” The fifth volume of Great Concentration and Insight has this to say on the subject: “The feeble merits produced by a mind only half intent on the practice cannot alter [the realm of karma]. But if one carries out the practice of concentration and insight so as to observe ‘health’ and ‘illness,’ then one can alter the cycle of birth and death [in the realm of karma].” It also says, “[As practice progresses and understanding grows], the three obstacles and four devils emerge in confusing form, vying with one another to interfere.”
From the beginningless past I have been born countless times as an evil ruler who deprived the votaries of the Lotus Sutra of their robes and rations, their fields and crops, much as the people of Japan in the present day go about destroying the temples dedicated to the Lotus Sutra. In addition, countless times I cut off the heads of the votaries of the Lotus Sutra. Some of these grave offenses I have already paid for, but there must be some that are not paid for yet. Even if I seem to have paid for them all, there are still ill effects that remain. When the time comes for me to transcend the sufferings of birth and death, it will be only after I have completely freed myself from these grave offenses. My merits are insignificant, but these offenses are grave.
and further down, Nichiren quotes the Nirvana Sutra:
“Although they do not seek emancipation, emancipation will come of itself.”
Nichiren teaches in On Practicing the Buddha's Teaching:
"...In their present existence the people will be freed from misfortune and disasters and learn the art of living long..."
One can feel the bad karma of a quintillion + lifetimes being expiated in a matter of months or years, in this very life. I can attest to the many times in this very life where I shouldn't have made it to this ripe old age of 67: At 3 years old, two neighbor boys hung me on a clothesline; avoiding two potentially devastating car accidents that should have been impossible to avoid; losing my kidneys 6 + years ago and still managing to work full time until May; cancer of the kidney; peritonitis three times in 2019 and a heart attack the second bout of peritonitis; someone pulling a gun on me just walking down the road. An infrarenal dissecting aneurism that fortunately went back into the aorta; blood pressures over two hundred, many days in the past, atherosclerosis throughout my body except my brain, and good looks

I wouldn't trade my treasures of the heart for a billion dollars or the good fortune to be without illness until I'm one hundred years old. Literally, I shed tears of joy daily. It is thanks to Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo, the Gohonzon, Lord Shakyamuni Buddha of the Juryo chapter of the Lotus Sutra, and Nichiren that i can offer my thanks and praise to the Lotus Sutra today. Chanting Namu Myoho renge kyo fills me with the lifeforce that is draining. The Lotus Sutra is truly a great physician that can change poison into medicine as Bodhisattva Nagarjuna taught.

Question: "Is mindfulness a part of Nichiren Buddhism?"
Questioner: Personally I see the value in being mindful, but I think it can lead to ocd like behavior by making you feel like you always have to police your own thoughts, therefore limiting one's ability to fully live in and enjoy the moment, if that makes sense. But what if anything does nichiren have to say about mindfulness?
Respondant: Self-reflection (the World of Learning) is definitely a part of Nichiren Buddhism. Here is but two examples from Nichiren:
"The Parinirvāna Sutra states: “Those who enter the monastic order, don clerical garments, and make a show of studying my teachings will exist in ages to come. Being lazy and remiss, they will slander the correct and equal sutras. You should be aware that all these people are followers of the non-Buddhist doctrines of today.” Those who read this passage should reflect deeply on their own practice. The Buddha is saying that those of our contemporary priests who wear clerical garments, but are idle and negligent, were disciples of the six non-Buddhist teachers in his day."
"At present the entire body of the Honorable Abutsu is composed of the five elements of earth, water, fire, wind, and space. These five elements are also the five characters of the daimoku. Abutsu-bō is therefore the treasure tower itself, and the treasure tower is Abutsu-bō himself. No other knowledge is purposeful. It is the treasure tower adorned with the seven kinds of treasures—hearing the correct teaching, believing it, keeping the precepts, engaging in meditation, practicing assiduously, renouncing one’s attachments, and reflecting on oneself."
And, in the Lotus Sutra, two Arhats, Ananda and Rahula, stated in Chapter 9, Prophecies Conferred on Learners and Adepts:
"At that time Ananda and Rahula thought to themselves, Whenever we reflect, we consider how delightful it would be if we should receive a prophecy of enlightenment!"
Tientai and his disciples perform(ed) a 21 day repentance ceremony.
The Lotus Sutra ("If one wishes to carry out repentance, sit upright and ponder the true aspect" - Universal Worthy Sutra or epilogue of the Lotus Sutra) and Nichiren ("sit upright and ponder the ultimate reality") teach mindfulness directly. The ultimate mindfulness is sitting upright and chanting Namu Myoho renge kyo to the Gohonzon.

Kumbaya, I'm OK you're OK, is not Buddhism.
The world would not be in the mess we find ourselves in, was everyone OK, especially the so-called Buddhists and our world leaders.
We are the Bodhisattvas of the Earth... from Nichiren's most important writing, The Object of Devotion for Observing the Mind Established in the Fifth Five-Hundred-Year Periodafter the Thus Come One’s Passing
"Question: Who is the messenger mentioned in the passage, “he sends a messenger home to announce”?
Answer: It means the four ranks of sages. They fall into four categories. [First,] most of the four ranks of sages of Hinayana appeared in the first five hundred years of the Former Day of the Law, and [second,] most of those of [provisional] Mahayana came in the second five hundred years. Third, those of the theoretical teaching appeared mainly in the next thousand years, the Middle Day of the Law, and the rest, in the beginning of the Latter Day. Fourth, the four ranks of sages of the essential teaching are the bodhisattvas emerging from the earth, numerous as the dust particles of a thousand worlds, who are certain to appear in the beginning of the Latter Day. When the sutra says, “he sends a messenger home to announce,” it refers to the Bodhisattvas of the Earth. “This good medicine” is the heart of the “Life Span” chapter, or Namu Myoho-renge-kyo, which is endowed with name, entity, quality, function, and teaching. Since the Buddha would not entrust this good medicine even to the bodhisattvas of the theoretical teaching, how much less could he have done so to the bodhisattvas of other worlds. Specifically, the messenger is Nichiren. Generally, we are rhe Bodhisattvas of the Earth. Is this not clear from the above passage? Yet I've been vilified for stating the obvious that we are the Bodhisattvas of the Earth whose leader is Nichiren. I must say that my detractors are very Strange, especially those who likewise chant Namu Myoho renge kyo. Plus, they rarely address the post, so filled are they with hatred.
No one is able to put out the great fire of the Buddha's wisdom
"In the breast of the Buddha is a great fire, made up of the great wisdom of equality, the shining light of great knowledge, and the fire pit of meditation. When the Buddha enters nirvana, this great fire blazes forth from his breast and consumes his body. Knowledge without faith from Letter to Niike
“Knowledge without faith” describes those who are knowledgeable about the Buddhist doctrines but have no faith. These people will never attain Buddhahood. Those of “faith without knowledge” may lack knowledge but have faith and can attain Buddhahood. This is not merely my own opinion; it is stated clearly in the Lotus Sutra. In the second volume, the Buddha says, “Even you, Shāriputra, in the case of this sutra were able to gain entrance through faith alone, not because of any wisdom of your own.” This shows that even Shāriputra, unsurpassed in his wisdom, was able to attain Buddhahood only by embracing and firmly believing in this sutra, and that his wisdom alone did not enable him to become a Buddha. If Shāriputra could not attain Buddhahood through his wisdom, how can we ordinary people, with limited knowledge of the doctrines, dare to dream that we may attain Buddhahood when we do not have faith? The Buddha explains that people in the latter age will be arrogant, though their knowledge of the doctrines is trifling, and will show disrespect to the priests, neglect the Law, and thereby fall into the evil paths. If one truly understands the Buddhist teachings, one should show this in one’s respect for the priests, reverence for the Law, and offerings to the Buddha. Shakyamuni Buddha is not among us now, so you must respect the teacher with enlightened wisdom as you would the Buddha himself. How, then, could you not receive blessings? If one wishes for happiness in one’s next existence, one should renounce one’s desire for fame and fortune and respect the priest who teaches the Lotus Sutra as one would a living Thus Come One, no matter how humble that priest’s station. Thus it is written in the sutra."

They have wanted to build smrs there to supply electricity, to utah for 25 years, but they know it’s is not coated effective and it is too dangerous. It is Too radioactive at INL, to this day, for a guy like Marco kaltofen to go and do scientific sampling to see how intense the Radionuclide contamination is in surrounding areas and the Idaho National lab itself. My best friend’s dad was a nuclear physicist, who worked at Idaho National labs from 1955 to1972. He was a famous Nuclear Physicist, named Alfred Alfred committed suicide in 1972. He committed suicide because, he knew the horrendous genocidal and planet killing onslaughts of Radionuclide pollution, from such psychotic folley of nuclear reactors and nuclears bombs is real.

My best friend, whose dad committed suicide , was a mechanical engineer he committed suicide in 2012, 1 year after Fukushima. He bore the scars and shame, and grief of his father’s suicide from the time he was 12 years old.

There are houses 1/2 mile East of the flats that were built in the last 2 years. They have basements,there was no disclosures as to the flats and underground contamination. I know people who live there

The lastest plutonium hotspot found in that area is massive. That’s some hot spot; nearly 1000X the site background of 0.06 pCi/g. We’d be interested in checking ash samples (no cost – so long as data is all public) for radioactive contamination if it can be safely collected.

Nichiren on the superiority of the Lotus Sutra among all sutras
"All these passages resemble the one from the Lotus Sutra that speaks of the past, present, and future. But such passages are declaring that a certain sutra is a “king” in comparison to the sutras of Brahmā, Shakra, or the four heavenly kings, or that it is a “king” in comparison to the Hinayana sutras, or that among sutras such as the Flower Garland or the Shrīmālā it is the most outstanding. They are in no way saying p.483that that particular sutra is the king of kings among all the Mahayana and Hinayana, provisional and true, exoteric and esoteric sutras preached by the Buddha during his entire fifty or more years of teaching. It is important that we should clearly understand what is being compared when we try to decide which sutras are superior and which inferior. Only when one has succeeded in overcoming a powerful enemy can we say that one has displayed real strength.
Moreover, the relative superiority of those sutras [that claim each is “king”] is determined by a single Buddha, Shakyamuni, and is not supported by the words of testimony given by Many Treasures Buddha or the emanations of Shakyamuni Buddha. One must not confuse a personal opinion of one Buddha with the public announcements in the Lotus Sutra verified by all the Buddhas." - Choosing the Heart of the Lotus Sutra
This is but one argument set forth by Nichiren. Nichiren gives even more elegant reasons in his five major works, particularly, the Opening of the Eyes, The True Object of Devotion, and On Repaying Debts of Gratitutude. In the Opening of the Eyes, he cites the fact that the other sutras reject certain people from attaining Buddhahood, those who carried out five cardinal sins, women, or the Men of Learning (Sravakas) and Self Realization (Pratyekabuddhas) and they assert that the Buddha attained Enlightenment for the first time under the Bodhi Tree. The Lotus Sutra teaches that through its faith and practice, even those who carried out the five cardinal sins, women, Men of Learning and Self Realization will all attain Buddhahood. Most importantly, only the Lotus Sutra reveals that Shakyamuni Buddha attained Buddhahood in the eternal past and has been preaching and saving the masses of beings since time immemorial.

Creating Hope Through SGI? Find Another Alternative
Oh Oscar, I can relate. When I reached out to SGI, before I was pressured into joining, I was a lonely 24-year-old in college. I was struggling with dealing with people after years of being mistreated in high school and exposed to a paternalistic cult called Nation Of Islam. However SGI will not help you really deal with loneliness. Rather, SGI will give you a means to spiritually bypass. In SGI, this spiritual bypassing looks like:
chanting for indefinite periods, and because you are more than likely under the age of 35, you will be exhorted to chant with more and more vigor. (You know, that rhythm of galloping horses that sounds more like the rhythm of frantic rats).
Doing more SGI activities like emcee where you will have to exhibit that euphoric effervescence, doing Gajokai and Soka Group, home visitations (or home v)
shakubuku where you will in essence behave like the Jehovah Witnesses
reading more and more of a fanfiction novel series that passes for study material (or if you take the initiative, the Gosho or the Burton Watson 2009 translation of the Lotus Sutra)
Reading Ikeda's daily guidances
And the harm that comes from SGI's spiritual bypassing:
The feelings of shame are likely to surface as you begin to more and more consider slander and devilish functions
You either find yourself tolerating inappropriate or unacceptable behavior, or you find yourself acting with no sense of personal responsibility.
You will become more and more dedicated to leaders as deviation will be treated as not being in rhythm with Ikeda (because in SGI, Ikeda is expected to be the center of your spiritual quest for happiness).
You might have problems with control, emotional confusion, or even anxiety.
You will definitely become spiritually narcissistic. How can you not in an organization where the president says over over that you have a noble mission that only you can fulfill, and that you have found the way to absolute happiness.
With side effects like these, you're better off getting either pets, plants or plushies. And leave the hope creation to those with enough money to set up full ride scholarships, to fund healthcare, to fund derelict schools, and to bankroll good lawyers for BLM protestors. They create real hope. Nobody on the outside of SGI ever said, "My life was improved or saved because my neighbor chanted or did SGI activities."
