According to SGI's and Nichiren Shoshu's teachings, Nichiren was a slanderer for placing a statue of Shakyamuni Buddha on the altar

"When I was in the Province of Sado between mountains and wilds far away from a village was a samadhi place called Tsukahara. There was a hall with a single room and four walls in that place. On the roof the boards did not meet and all four walls were ruined. In the rain it was like being outside and the snow piled up inside. There was no Buddha [image]. Neither was there a single reed tatami mat. However, I set up the statue of the Master of Teachings Lord Shakya which I kept from the beginning and grasped the Hokekyo in my hand, put on a straw raincoat and held up an umbrella, yet for four years nary a person appeared to give me food." -- Reply to the Bhikshuni Myoho", STN, v. 2, 15

  1. Your inference and snarky sarcasm is presented without any evidence of your bold accusations againstSGI. The Gosho passage you chose to copy/paste is equally lacking in cultural/ historical context.
Gohonzon is the true object of worship, depicting the Eternal Buddha, Shakyamuni. Statues of Shakyamuni depict the historical Buddha. Some , not all, SGI members believe the statue lessens the significance of the Gohonzon. Never heard any even suggest Nichiren was a slanderer for keeping and bequeathing his statue of the historical Buddha!
Mark shuts down discussion of the teachings, preferring, it seems, to demonstrate the extent to which he views himself as the authority on “ slander and slandering”, when, in fact, the careless postings and negative commentary on believers who do not agree with him, is disregarding the essential teaching of the Lotus Sutra, which is the definition of “ slander”.
