Nichikan and the Nichikan Gohonzon

"If the source is muddy, the stream will not flow clear" Letter to Ichinosawa

Nichikan wrote:

"We recite the Hoben Pon (2nd chapter) to smash the provisional sutras, we recite the Juryo Hon (16th Chapter) to smash the Hoben Pon, and we recits the daimoku to smash the Lotus Sutra".

Nichiren wrote:

“Nowhere in all the five thousand or seven thousand volumes of sutras listed in the K’ai-yüan era catalog do we find a single scriptural passage that expresses disapproval of the Lotus Sutra and advises one to discard it or to cast it aside, nor any passage that says it is to be classified among the sundry practices and abandoned. If you disagree, you had better find some reliable passage from the sutras that will support your view, so that you may rescue Shan-tao and Honen from their torments in the hell of incessant suffering."(Coversations Between a Sage and Unenlightened Man).

Yet you do Gongyo and chant the Daimoku every day to this slanderer's Gohonzon. Why would you ever think for a moment that you too could escape the torments of hell?

In the "Toke Sanne Sho [On the Three Robes of Nichiren Shoshu]," Nichikan Shonin cites Nikko Shonin and Nichimoku Shonin as the Treasure of the Priest when revealing the Three Treasures of Nichiren Shoshu, and then states, "I say that all the Masters, the successive direct successors to the bestowal of the Law, are in this way included in the Three Treasures." (Seiten, p. 971)

Nichikan's Six Volume Writings" (Rokkan sho) is composed of the following:

1)."The Threefold Secret Teaching" (Sanju hiden sho): In this writing Nichikan exhorts us us to abandon the Lotus Sutra and only embrace Namu Myoho renge kyo. This is bizarre since Namu myoho renge kyo means devotion to the Lotus Sutra (Myoho renge kyo).

2)."The Meanings Hidden in the Depths" (Montei hichin sho). In this equally bizarre writing he changes the Great Secret Law of the Object of Worship in terms of the person from the Original Eternal Buddha Shakyamuni to Nichiren Daishonin.

3)."Interpretations Based on the Law" (Egi hanmon sho). In this equally strange writing, Nichikan teaches that the Lotus Sutra was preached by Shakyamuni to explain Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism rather than Nichiren Daishonin explaining the Lotus Sutra through his commentaries.

4)."Teachings for the Latter Day" (Mappo soo sho). In this writing, Nichikan attempts to overturn the use of statues as Objects of Worship despite the fact that Nichiren utilized and revered a Statue of Shakyamuni Buddha as an Object of Worship throughout his life, praised both Dozenbo, Toki Jonin, and Shijo Kingo for fashioning statues of Shakyamuni Buddha, and wrote about both "wooden and painted" images.

5)."The Practice of this School" (Toryu gyoji sho). In this slanderous writing, Nichikan says we chant the Daimoku to smash the Juryo Chapter and chant the Juryo Chapter to smash the Hobenpon.

(6) The "Toke Sanne Sho" (The Three Robes of this School) explains the origin and significance of the traditional gray robe, the white surplice and the prayer beads of the Nichiren Shoshu priests. Here, he also goes on to overturn the Three Treasures of the Lotus Sutra and Nichiren by asserting that Nichiren is the Treasure of the Buddha and that the heritage of the Law, the succession, is through the bequethal to one sole individual or the successive High Priests of Nichiren Shoshu (the Treasure of the Sangha). On the Juzu, he wrote:

"The Juzu is a means to guide persons of inferior capacity and force them into ascetic practices."

"Juzu require an eye-opening ceremony before use. This can be done at your local temple." (Six Volume Writings," Rokkan-sho, p. 225)

The Ryokkan Sho, far from being an Enlightened writing, is a bizarre writing.

Nichiren Daishonin, on the other hand, writes:

"When the Great Teacher T’ien-t’ai applied the simile of ghee to the Lotus Sutra, basing himself on a passage in the Nirvana Sutra, he declared that among all the sutras the Lotus Sutra is worthy to be compared to ghee. The True Word teaching was introduced to China from India two hundred years or more after the time of T’ien-t’ai. How then could T’ien-t’ai possibly have stolen the ghee of the True Word teaching and called it the ghee of the Lotus Sutra? Of all strange events, this would be the strangest!

What evidence is there then for calling persons who lived two hundred years or more before the True Word teaching was even introduced to China thieves? Are we to put faith in these writings of the Great Teacher Kobo? Or are we to put faith in the Nirvana Sutra where the Buddha likens the Lotus Sutra to ghee?

If we are to regard the Great Teacher T’ien-t’ai as a thief, then how are we to interpret this passage in the Nirvana Sutra? And if we accept the passage in the Nirvana Sutra as reliable and conclude that the writings of Kobo (Nichikan) are incorrect, then what are we to think of people who put faith in such erroneous teachings? All I can say is that one should compare the writings of the Great Teacher Kobo (Nichikan) and the pronouncements of the Buddha, and then put one’s faith in the one that proves to be correct." (On Prayer).

"But those who follow the teachings of Nichiren honestly discard the mistaken doctrines of the provisional teachings and the incorrect theories of the mistaken teachers, and, with all sincerity, put their faith in the correct teaching and the correct doctrines of the correct teacher. Accordingly they are able to gain the lotus of the entity and to manifest the mystic principle of the entity of the Land of Eternally Tranquil Light. This is because they put their faith in the golden words of the Buddha indicated in the “Life Span” chapter of the essential teaching and chant Namu-myoho-renge-kyo."(Entity of the Mystic Law)

Since the SGI fails, on this one vital criteria of putting "their faith in the golden words of the Buddha indicated in the “Life Span” chapter of the essential teaching", their land is the land of devils and hardships and not the Land of Eternally Quiescent Light. Wherever the teachings of the SGI spread, the people suffer and more tragedies and calamities occur. On the other hand, even one true practicer of the Lotus Sutra in a city or a country will bring good fortune and peace to the people.

Nichikan also wrote:

"The three groups of shomon disciples
accumulated good fortune since sanzen
jintengo [before being guaranteed
enlightenment), and those who received
the seed and reached enlightenment on
hearing the first chapter of the Lotus
Sutra accumulated good fortune since
Gohyaku jintengo. How possibly could
those who first received the seed during
the lifetime of the Buddha all without
exception achieve enlightenment in a
mere two-thousand years? [They
couldn't!] The reason is this: the
effectiveness of Shakyamuni's teachings
begins at Kuon Ganjo, but ends with the
two-thousand years of the Former and
Middle Days of the Law. ... Therefore
the people of the Latter Day of the Law
all innately have yet to possess the seed
and so are of the capacity to receive the
original seed of enlightenment directly."
(Rokkan-sho, p.110)

Who can understand such nonsense? He is like SGI leaders. Nichikan just makes things up out of thin air. What ever pops into his head he writes and calls it the True Teachings. Nichiren says about such men who fail to preach with Sutra in hand, even though they be great bodhisattvas, don't listen to them. Nichikan wasn't even a Bodhisattva. He was a madman and he inscribed the Gohonzon to which SGI members fuse. How could every last member of the SGI fail to become a madman? Here is more proof.

Nichikan writes in his Montei Hichin-Sho ["The Teachings Hidden in the Depths of the Text"]:

"Therefore know this: *"One of Perfect Freedom"* is His true state (honchi). Bodhisattva Jogyo is His transient reflection. And Nichiren is the manifestation of His true state (kenpon).

Nichiren Daishonin never revealed it and he never held back anything. Nichiren Shonin teaches that his true identity is that of Jogyo and hidden in the depths of the Juryohon is that he, as well as we, are Three Bodied Tathagatas, one with the Original Eternal Buddha Shakyamuni, our original teacher.

The Juryo (16) and Jinriki Chapters (21) of the Lotus Sutra and the Goshos, the Entity of the Mystic Law (Totaigi Sho), The Opening of the Eyes, The True Object of Worship, and Repaying Debts of Gratitude, explain why the Nichikan Gohonzon is a demon infested condition for the ruin of the individual, the nation, and the world.

'I likewise am the Father of the World,
The One who saves
from the various sufferings and travails" (Lotus Sutra Chapter 16)

"At that time the Buddha spoke to Superior Practices and the others in the great assembly of bodhisattvas, saying: "The supernatural powers of the Buddhas, as you have seen, are immeasurable, boundless, inconceivable. If in the process of entrusting this sutra to others I were to employ these supernatural powers for a immeasurable, boundless hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, millions of asamkhya kalpas to describe the benefits of the sutra, I could never finish doing so. To put it briefly, all the doctrines possessed by the Thus Come One, the storehouse of all the secret essentials of the Thus Come One - all these are proclaimed, revealed, and clearly expounded in this sutra. (Lotus Sutra Chapter 21)

Nichiren comments on this passage:

"Answer: In this passage, Shakyamuni Buddha explains that he is entrusting to the Bodhisattvas of the Earth, his original disciples, the five characters of Myoho-renge-kyo, which is the essence of the Lotus Sutra. Shakyamuni, who attained enlightenment countless kalpas in the past, says elsewhere, "By now the original vows that I made have already been fulfilled. I have converted all living beings and caused them all to enter the Buddha way." Thus, he has already fulfilled his earlier vow. Then, intending to charge his disciples with the task of accomplishing widespread propagation in the fifth five hundred years after his death," he called forth the Bodhisattvas of the Earth and entrusted them with the heart of the sutra, the lotus of the entity of the essential teaching. This passage represents the ultimate purpose for which Shakyamuni Buddha appeared in the world, the secret Law that he attained in the place of meditation. It is this passage that gives proof of the lotus of the entity that, for those of us who live in the Latter Day of the Law, assures the attainment of Buddhahood in both the present and future."

Accordingly, at the present time in the Latter Day of the Law, other than the envoy of the Thus Come One, there can be no one who understands and produces this passage as proof of the lotus of the entity. Truly it is a passage of secret meaning. Truly it is a matter of great concern. Truly it is to be honored and admired. Namu-myoho-renge-kyo, Namu-myoho-renge-kyo!" (Entity of the Mystic Law)

"Answer: 'One: Japan and so on to the whole of Jambudvipa should uniformly take the Master of teachings Lord Shakya of the Original Doctrine as the Object of Worship." (Repaying Debts of Gratitude)

"Now, when the Eternal Buddha was revealed in the essential section of the Lotus Sutra, this world of endurance (Saha-world) became the Eternal Pure Land, indestructible even by the three calamities of conflagration, flooding, and strong winds, which are said to destroy the world. It transcends the four periods of cosmic change: the kalpa of construction, continuance, destruction and emptiness. Sakyamuni Buddha, the Lord-preacher of this pure land, has never died in the past, nor will He be born in the future. He exists forever throughout the past present and future. All those who receive His guidance are one with this Eternal Buddha." (Opening of the Eyes)

"In the same chapter, another passage reads: ‘The duration of My Life, which I obtained through the practice of the way of bodhisattvas, has not yet expired. It is twice as long as the length of time stated above: 500 dust-particle kalpa.’ This reveals the bodhisattva realm within our minds. The bodhisattvas described in the fifteenth chapter, ‘Appearance of Bodhisattvas from Underground,’ who have sprung out of the great earth, as numerous as the number of dust-particles of 1,000 worlds, are followers of the Original Buddha Sakyamuni who resides within our minds." (The True Object of Worship)

Nichikan asked us to abandon Shakyamuni Buddha and the Lotus Sutra. This is the purport of his Object of Worship. The Nichikan Gohonzon is neither based on the Lotus Sutra (Myoho renge kyo) nor on Shakyamuni Buddha of the Juryo Chapter of the Lotus Sutra. It is not based on the teachings of Nichiren Daishonin. Chanting to this Gohonzon is as if you were to take and revere the offering of a sumptuous meal from the murderer of your parents or praising the one who has kidnapped your child. You along with the offender (Nichikan) will both fall into the Lower Realms and the Sutra's promise of peace and security in this life and a fortunate birth in the next will allude you.

Further Proof of my assertion is the fact that SGI would take up this Gohonzon as their banner of propagation in the first place; the bizarre worldview of the SGI where Daisaku Ikeda is revered and praised at the expense of the Sutra, the Buddha, and Nichiren Daishonin; the misfortune that invariably befalls its leaders; and the lack of insight of the general members.

If you send me your copy of a Nichikan Gohonzon, I will see to it that you will receive a copy of a Nichiren Gohonzon.

  1. “ Never seek this Gohonzon outside of yourself… the Gohonzon exists in faith alone.” Nichiren

Some 20 years after beginning to propagate Myoho Renge Kyo, Nichiren drew/wrote the Willow Gohonzon for a priest who supported Nichiren and was in exile. The history of the Gohonzon is a fascinating read, though the actual meaning and significance is fundamental to a correct practice.
Mark wishes to support his decades long campaign to discredit and essentially trash SGI/ NST and has formulated his own opinion of what is the correct daimoku and authentic Gohonzon . Putting aside all issues around the dai Gohonzon and Shoshu doctrine, the facts regarding both daimoku and Gohonzon are clearly taught in the major writings of Nichiren - both are one with the eternal Buddha — faith alone is the “ portal to Buddha’s wisdom”.
Mark has been emphasizing “external” and extemporaneous references that completely dismiss the specific teachings that refute Mark’s attempt to nullify the faith and practice of SGI/ NST. He will also nullify actual proof from believers, like me, who did not experience any difference when chanting Nam v. Namu/ or chanting to any Gohonzon !
Faith and assiduous practice are the only requirements. Too bad Mark decided Jerry Marcheso was “ an enemy”, because Jerrybobtained and could translate original writings that clearly demonstrate the points I have raised.
I conclude that Mark and Greg Romero gave personal animus and a myriad of karmic impediments that underpin their constant attacks on SGI/NST- me and Jerry . One can certainly gain understanding of how the teachings were manipulated to support both the Shoshu priesthood and SGI , lay organization ; the impetus does reflect desire for power, money and status. These are lower world desires that, if the true teachings are believed, will be transformed so long as faith in and assiduous practice of Kyoho Renge Kyo are maintained. How interesting that while Mark proclaims he is the lone proponent of “ correct practice”, his agenda demonstrates he , in fact, lacks faith in the essential teaching and Nichiren’s authentic teachings.

    1. SGI and NST don't even recognize their father Shakyamuni Buddha of the Juryo Chapter of the Lotus Sutras as the Eternal Buddha. Their Three Treasures and Three Great Secret Laws are not the same as Nichiren's yet you support them with your bones and marrow. SGI hates the Nichiren Shoshu and the Nichiren Shoshu hates SGI, yet support them with every fiber of your being while admonishing me who merely points out both of their errors. For now, I will have nothing to say about their hatred for eachother and their hatred of the orthodox sects, Here I will only point out the reverence Nichiren had for the Eternal Shakyamuni Buddha, Nichiren's Three Treasures and Three Great Secret Laws:

    2. all matter of heinous events — especially the breakdown of civility in our politics and respect for the dignity of living beings took a huge down turn from the time Shoshu excommunicated Ikeda and communities of believers followed their “ leaders” into “ civil war”. who are the most fortunate believers ? those who did not demean other believers and those whose assiduous faith and practice opened their eyes to the essential teaching , purified their perceptions and overcame their anger and arrogance . many who were once accepting Mark’s animosity driven rhetoric have left this forum and grown in faith. many of us true believers in Myoho renge kyo, discuss teachings and are in unity regarding this important teaching by Nichiren : “ Whether he understands the medicine or not, as long as he takes it,he willin either case be cured,” A Sage And An Unenlightened Man”- The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin- pages 132- 133- thoroughly and concisely explain why the “ sect battles” are frivolous and dangerous. Mark will fail to impede the progress and flow of awakening that is inevitable amongst those who “ take the medicine left for us by the most skilled physician “ — to date Dr Rogow cannot even cure himself with his poisonous “ preaching” . Sad.

  3. 6 POINTS Mark writes, attempting to repudiate Nichikan’s writings, that need refuting. These points of Mark’s are indicative of the same mistakes Mark unknowingly makes repeatedly, which he uses to inadvertently ignore and deny Nichiren’s own words despite spamming gosho quotes.

In General, all these points are based in the past schisms and arguing sects.

I am stating very matter of fact, that the differences and arguing of Nichiren sects and hair-splitting ideation, is what NICHIREN himself calls “Worldly Matters.” It is breaking the unity to the Sangha to be involved in arguing over “worldly matters” rather then adhering to the power of the Daimoku itself.

Nichiren makes it very clear that the practice of reciting the Daimoku is far more powerfui then the possible Worldly Matters. He specifically states:

“Those who believe in the Lotus Sutra, however except for abandoning their faith in the Lotus Sutra and following the teacher of expedient teachings, will never fall into the three evil realms for committing sins in world matters.

“It is because the sins are not grave enough to upset the merits of the Lotus Sutra.” (from the Shugo Kokka-ron (1259)

The term, “Lotus Sutra” in Nichiren’s Lotus Sutra Buddhism, is not only the 27 or 28 or (more) chapters of the Lotus Sutra and Threefold Lotus Sutra and Nirvana Sutra (as amplifying the Lotus Sutra) –it is the Daimoku itself. Nichiren explains this in all his pre- and post-Sado writings over and over again. The Daimoku is the core of the Juryo Chapter. It is one of the Three Great Secret Laws.

Nichiren explains repeatedly that in the Latter Day:

“He who believes in this sutra in this life must have seen the Buddha,
shown respect to Him, given offering and listened to him preach this
    sutra” (Hobenpon Chapter)

Do not dispute that Nichiren is in fact the “True Buddha” anymore than you yourself are.

Your distinctions over all these years stemmed from a incident in your life that injected a doubt in
    your mind.

Stop slandering Bodhisattva’s and Buddha’s just because of the worldly organization they belong to or
he worldly PROTOCOLS that sect adheres to.

Every one of them have heard the preaching of this sutra over a endless period.

Criticizing INDIVIDUALS for slandering, such as specifically criticizing Daisaku Ikeda, or Nikken Shonin,
based on their actual slander of other Great Bodhisattvas i.e., George M. Williams, or Sokagakkai, or
other Nichiren sects, composed of believers who recite the Daimoku en masse as Nikken
did, or as the schematic sects slandering each other, as Chas does as you Mark does, violates the
real purpose of the Lotus Sutra. This applies to the idiotic SECT WARS. At the same time, this comes
from “Worldly Affairs,” and does not mean they are not true Buddhas themselves---just by the Virtue
of their millions of years of faith and practice.

Whatever doctrinal and hair-splitting arguments exist, are all delusion when looking at people who
chant the Daimoku regardless of whatever small sins.

Bodhisattva Universal Virtue of the Lotus Sutra and closing Sutra ensures that Buddhism will spread.
Recognize this. Have faith and stop the constant SECT WAR.

    1. I didn't create the schism between the SGI and the Nichiren Shoshu Dave. You consider the Nichiren's CORRECT Three Treasures and Three Great Secret Laws, the very basis of Nichiren'[s teachings as hair splitting? Nichiren doesn't:

      Part 1

"...the Nirvana Sutra states: “If there are those who possess differing ideas concerning the three treasures, then truly you should know that these people can no longer hope to take refuge in, or rely upon, the three pure treasures. They will never gain benefit from any of the precepts, and in the end, they will fail to obtain the fruits of the voice-hearer, the cause-awakened one, or the bodhisattva.” - The Third Doctrine

      He states also:

"The fourth is the debt owed to the three treasures. When the Thus Come One Shakyamuni was engaged in bodhisattva practices for countless kalpas, he gathered all of the good fortune and virtue he had gained thereby, divided it into sixty-four parts, and took on their merit. Of these sixty-four, he reserved only one part for himself. The remaining sixty-three parts he left behind in this world, making a vow as follows: “There will be an age when the five impurities will become rampant, erroneous teachings will flourish, and slanderers will fill the land. At that time, because the innumerable benevolent guardian deities will be unable to taste the flavor of the Law, their majesty and strength will diminish. The sun and moon will lose their brightness, the heavenly dragons will not send down rain, and the earthly deities will decrease the fertility of the soil. The roots and stalks, branches and leaves, flowers and fruit will all lose their medicinal properties as well as the seven flavors. Even those who became kings because they had observed the ten good precepts in previous lifetimes will grow in greed, anger, and foolishness. The people will cease to be dutiful to their parents, and the six kinds of relatives will fall into disaccord. At such a time, my disciples will consist of unlearned people without precepts. For this reason, even though they shave their heads, they will be forsaken by the tutelary deities and left without any means of subsistence. It is in order to sustain these monks and nuns [that I now leave these sixty-three parts behind]. - the Four Debts of Gratitude

Even if we should gather all the water of the four great oceans to wet inkstones, burn all the trees and plants to make ink sticks, collect the hairs of all beasts for writing brushes, employ all the surfaces of the worlds in the ten directions for paper, and, with these, set down expressions of gratitude, how could we possibly repay our debt to the Buddha?" -The Four Debts of Gratitude

Number one is debt and gratitude to the Buddha Shakyamuni. With a different Three Treasures you just won't get it, not to mention, adding to the disunity. Nichiren sought to establish pre-sectarian Buddhism, modeled after the Buddhism in the Former Day where monks and nuns, laywomen and laymen all worshipped the same Three Treasures. Those who believe in Nichiren as the Original Eternal Buddha are sectarians who don't even follow the very clear mandates of their True Buddha.

    2. Part 2

"The Treatise on the Treasure Vehicle of Buddhahood by Bodhisattva Sāramati reads: “Those who are ignorant and unable to believe in the correct teaching, who hold false views and are arrogant, suffer such hindrances in retribution for the slanders of their past lives. They cling to incomplete doctrines and are attached to receiving alms and being treated with deference; they recognize only false doctrines, distance themselves from good friends, approach with familiarity such slanderers who delight in attachment to the teachings of the lesser vehicle, and do not believe in the great vehicle. Therefore they slander the Law of the Buddhas.

“A person of wisdom should not fear enemy households, snakes, the poison of fire, the god Indra, the roll of thunder, attacks by swords and staves, or wild beasts such as tigers, wolves, and lions. For these can only destroy one’s life, but cannot cause one to fall into the Avīchi hell, which is truly terrifying. What one should fear is slander of the profound teaching as well as companions who are slanderers, for these will surely cause one to fall into the frightful Avīchi hell. Even if one befriends evil companions and with evil intent spills the Buddha’s blood, kills one’s own father and mother, takes the lives of many sages, disrupts the unity of the Buddhist Order, and destroys all one’s roots of goodness, if one fixes one’s mind on the correct teaching, one can free oneself from that place. But if there is someone who slanders the inconceivably profound teaching, that person will for immeasurable kalpas be unable to obtain emancipation. However, if there is one who can cause others to awaken to and take faith in a teaching such as this, then that person is their father and mother, and also their good friend. This is a person of wisdom. After the Thus Come One’s passing, that person corrects false views and perverse thoughts, and causes people to enter the true way. For that reason, he has pure faith in the three treasures, and his virtuous actions lead others to enlightenment.”

Bodhisattva Nāgārjuna states in his Treatise on the Discipline for Attaining Enlightenment: “The World-Honored One expounded five causes3 leading to the hell of incessant suffering. . . . But if, with respect to the profound teaching that one has yet to comprehend, one were to remain attached [to lesser teachings and declare that this is not the Buddha’s teaching], then the accumulated sins of all the above-mentioned five acts would not amount to even a hundredth part of this offense.”

A wise person, while dwelling in security, anticipates danger; a perverse one, while dwelling amid danger, takes security for granted. A great fire fears even a small quantity of water, and a large tree may have its branches broken by even a small bird. What a wise person fears is slander of the great vehicle. It was on this account that Bodhisattva Vasubandhu declared that he would cut out his tongue,4 Bodhisattva Ashvaghosha implored that his own head be cut off, and the Great Teacher Chi-tsang made a bridge of his own body.6 The Tripitaka Master Hsüan-tsang traveled to the sacred land of India to discern [which teaching represents the truth], the Tripitaka Master Pu-k’ung likewise returned to India to resolve his doubts, and the Great Teacher Dengyō sought confirmation in China. Did not these men act this way in order to protect the true meaning of the sutras and treatises?" - The Problem to be Pondered Night and Day

"Answer: The Benevolent Kings Sutra says: “Those persons who should uphold and guard the three treasures of Buddhism will on the contrary become the destroyers of the three treasures, just as it is the worms that are born from the body of a dead lion that will feed on the lion’s flesh. It will not be the non-Buddhists [but in most cases the Buddha’s own disciples who will destroy this Buddhist Law of mine].” - On Dealing with Disaster

    3. Part 3

“The Buddha said to Shāriputra, ‘No, they are not similar. Why is that? Because if one destroys the perfection of wisdom, then one destroys the all-inclusive wisdom and the wisdom that understands every aspect of phenomena possessed by the Buddhas of the ten directions. When one destroys the treasure of the Buddha, then one destroys the treasure of the Law, and when one destroys the treasure of the Law, one destroys the treasure of the Buddhist Order. When one destroys the three treasures, one destroys all the correct views in the world, and when one destroys all the correct views in the world, then one is committing a crime that will bring one unlimited retribution. And when one has committed a crime that will bring unlimited retribution, then one must undergo pain and suffering for an unlimited period of time.’” - What it Means to Slander the Law.

I won't even get to the destruction of the Third Treasure, the Order headed and exemplified by the priest Nichiren. I guess you weren't hungry (in SGI). You ordered half the order (without priests). Nichiren wrote to dozens of priests, praising them and cited dozens of priests who confirmed his doctrines.

"Look carefully at the present situation. Is it due to the offense of slandering the Lotus Sutra, or is it punishment for belittling Nichiren, or is it because of the great offense of slandering the three treasures—the Law, the Buddha, and the Order? Because of these circumstances, in their present existence these people have brought the world of asuras into this country, and in their next existence they will without fail fall into the hell of incessant suffering." - Reply to the Honorable Konichi

"All of this came about because they put their trust in the True Word and Nembutsu teachings and acted as implacable enemies of the Lotus Sutra and Shakyamuni Buddha. Because they did so, they were cast aside by the Sun Goddess, Great Bodhisattva Hachiman, and the other deities of heaven and earth, and by the three treasures of Buddhism in the ten directions. While alive, they were attacked by those who should have been their followers, and after death, they fell into hell." - Condolences on a Deceased Husband.

Nichiren Honbutsuron (Eternal Buddha) is nothing but founder worship for the arrogant people of Japan who Nichiren called the most evil people of Jambudvipa.

"Next, the four debts of gratitude of Buddhism are (1) the debt of gratitude to be paid to one’s father and mother; (2) the debt of gratitude to be paid to the ruler of the nation; (3) the debt of gratitude to be paid to all living beings; and (4) the debt of gratitude to be paid to the three treasures [the Buddha, the Law, and the Order]. - The Four Virtues and the Four Debts of Gratitude

    4. Klepszoid makes crucially relevant points. If comments were posted in real time , and other participants could respond in real time , not only would relevant discussion ensue, but Mark would be soundly refuted.
Notice how Mark seeks control of this forum and blatantly prohibits discussion of the teachings amongst believers !
To what end does Mark behave like an autocrat ? He is destroying the true teaching and inciting discord amongst some believers . Ego is the sole motivator of this sad blogger - ~ Katie

  4. Medieval Japan had widespread attachment to “ other Buddhas” and lesser “ sutras”. Don’t you think Nichiren consistently addressed those he sought to convert, the Japanese ,mand persuade them to accept the daimoku of the Lotus Sutra as the one perfect, essential teaching? Those who have accepted, embraced and chant the daimoku are simultaneously praising, revering and establishing direct connection to the Eternal Buddha Shakyamuni !
Nichiren himself revered Shakyamuni above all other Buddhas and determined the Lotus Sutra was the only teaching for our time. Tell me, why you do not grasp that in our culture and all other non- Buddhist cultures, there is reason to focus on the historical Shakyamuni, when we already embrace the eternal Shakyamuni , who is one with Gohonzon and Myoho renge kyo.
At long last your fundamental errors are exposed as are the many errors made by others who claim to be “ experts” on Nichiren’s teachings !

    1. SGI and NST ignore Nichiren's teachings in the Opening of the Eyes, the Gohonzon in terms the person of the Eternal Buddha Shakyamuni. Because of this SGI and NST members suffer all forms of retribution, despite chanting their truncated Daimoku. It is apparent that: because you support them and your slander of Nichiren's true disciples; associating with evil spiritual friends; and having abandoned your good friends in the dharma; you have fallen into the Lower Four Worlds, particularly, the World of Anger. A pity, a shame!

  5. 1)."The Threefold Secret Teaching" (Sanju hiden sho): In this writing Nichikan exhorts us us to abandon the Lotus Sutra and only embrace Namu Myoho renge kyo. This is bizarre since Namu myoho renge kyo means devotion to the Lotus Sutra (Myoho renge kyo).

The Daimoku is the Lotus Sutra. The Gohonzon is the Lotus Sutra.

2)."The Meanings Hidden in the Depths" (Montei hichin sho). In this equally bizarre writing he changes the Great Secret Law of the Object of Worship in terms of the person from the Original Eternal Buddha Shakyamuni to Nichiren Daishonin.

This is the greatest misunderstanding. The meaning of Buddha and True Buddha. Historical Shakyamuni Buddha, in reality, did not teach the Lotus Sutra in India. It is in the religious experience of those who inherited it ages ago and practiced by true bodhisattvas of the earth over an endless period. Specifically it was written in our world by the Mahayana founders.

When the name Nichiren Daishonin is used it refers to all True Buddhas, past present and future. Disciples should praise this True Buddha, as higher than historical Shakyamuni because the Eternal Shakyamuni already taught this and refuted his own transient teachings over long periods. All Buddhas had transient teachings. This True Buddha is depicted on the Gohonzon. All those function are within every person. Past Present and Future is One.

Nichiren only recommended putting the Lotus Sutra in front of the Statues of Shakyamuni,
It is spiritually imbued by the sutra. The Gohonzon is the representation of the True Buddha experience.

5)."The Practice of this School" (Toryu gyoji sho). In this slanderous writing, Nichikan says we chant the Daimoku to smash the Juryo Chapter and chant the Juryo Chapter to smash the Hobenpon.

These are translated words and should be easy to understood in a deep sense, related to the Daishonin’s teachings about the Latter Day. People using the Lotus Sutra with other sutras and mixing them is not the same as being part of the flow of propagation of True Buddhism. It is over a long period to have these misunderstandings. Eventually those misunderstanding need to be “smashed.”

Your idea of the Three Treasures is completely ignoring the Three Great Secret Laws.

Calling Nichikan’s writing Bizarre, is the same as someone calling the Lotus Sutra “bizarre.”
The True Budsdha is a common mortal.

Bruhahaha , gregorio — look in your mirror or step outside your door and behold the anger and stupidity in your own life —- your animosity towards other people and flagrant pride in hating those who don’t share your egocentric beliefs is stunning! You claim to have entered the treasure tower ? Looks more like you’ve become cozy in an outhouse ! ~ Katie

    5. One should wonder why you have decided against confronting me off line via personal contact that was your habit for over 4 years ! Is it your lack of genuine concern , which makes all your professions of “ caring”, blatant lies ? Or are you simply too cowardly to address me directly ? The pity is the vast chasm between who you claimed to be and who you really are 🥲- Katie
