9. "SGI shall promote, based on the Buddhist ideal of symbiosis, the protection of nature and the environment."

Consider the following:

BEGIN EXCERPT -

"Nuclear energy and political parties - Komei Party (Part 2)
August 28, 2011

Soka Gakkai features pro-nuclear series every year

Soka Gakkai, the religious organization and parent organization of the Komei Party, publishes a newspaper Seikyo Shimbun, in which Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) used to run an advertisement every summer between 1978 and 1982.

Beginning in 1978:

The first TEPCO ad appeared on August 2, 1978, covering five bottom columns to advertise that TEPCO was steadily carrying out its plan to promote nuclear power generation.

In 1978 TEPCO aggressively approached Soka Gakkai and the Komei Party in a bid to get the Kashiwazaki Kariwa nuclear power plant (NPP), whose construction was approved in Sep. 1977, built at all costs in Niigata Prefecture to follow the Fukushima NPP.

From 1983 through 2010, TEPCO ran a new style ad in the form of a series for children “Let’s learn about electricity during summer holidays.” The series appeared for an average of 10 to 14 issues every summer. Seikyo Shimbun advertising bureau played a major role in producing the series, with TEPCO providing the information.

The installment dated August 29, 1983 was extraordinary. The article set the scene in which a mother and her child visit the Fukushima Daiichi NPP, which is the one involved in the March accident, and the Daini NPP. The mother asks, “Can it withstand an earthquake?” A TEPCO staff member answers, “The foundation of an atomic power plant is built on hard bedrock. At the Fukushima Daiichi NPP, a staff member working inside a nuclear reactor building says he did not feel the quake at all when the 1978 Earthquake off Miyagi occurred,” and notes how sturdy the structure is. Then the child says, “So we can take shelter in a NPP for safety when an earthquake occurs.”

The serial “summer study” article dated July 29, 1999 took the reader on a visit to the Fukushima Daiichi NPP Unit 3 reactor. The article says that the nuclear reactor is guarded by thick cement walls and that its exterior is further surrounded doubly and triply by protective walls to completely seal in radioactivity. The article concludes by saying that the visiting mother and child are convinced that there would be no leak of radioactivity outside in the event of an accident.

Absence of self-criticism:

Pro-nuclear ads on Seikyo Simbun did not end even after the 1979 Three Mile Island accident in the United States, the 1986 Chernobyl accident in the Soviet Union, and even after the 1999 criticality accident in Tokai Village in Ibaraki Prefecture.

So far this year, the year of the Fukushima Daiichi NPP accident, there has been no joint Seikyo Shimbun-TEPCO series. Likewise, there has not been a single article in the newspaper expressing self-criticism for propagating the nuclear “safety myth.”

Nichiren on the difficulty of embracing even one phrase or verse of the Lotus Sutra in the Latter Day of the Law

Nichiren, before his near execution and exile to Sado, often spoke of the practice of chanting Daimoku as an easy to practice Way. During and after his great persecutions, he frequently instructed his disciples on the six difficult and nine easy acts described in the Treasure Tower Chapter of the Lotus Sutra:

"If I were to falter in my determination in the face of persecutions by the sovereign, however, it would be better not to speak out. While thinking this over, I recalled the teachings of the 'Treasure Tower' chapter on the six difficult and nine easy acts. Persons like myself who are of paltry strength might still be able to lift Mount Sumeru and toss it about; persons like myself who are lacking in supernatural powers might still shoulder a load of dry grass and yet remain unburned in the fire at the end of the kalpa of decline; and persons like myself who are without wisdom might still read and memorize as many sutras as there are sands in the Ganges. But such acts are not difficult, we are told, when compared to the difficulty of embracing even one phrase or verse of the Lotus Sutra in the Latter Day of the Law. Nevertheless, I vowed to summon up a powerful and unconquerable desire for the salvation of all beings and never to falter in my efforts."

"Thus the time since I attained Buddhahood is very great, long, and distant."

"You good sons. The Sutra Canons which the Tathagata expounds are all for saving and liberating the mass of beings. I either preach my own body or preach the body of another or show my own body or show the body of another or show my own matter or show the matter of another. The various words I preach are all true and not empty. What is the reason? The Tathagata knows and sees the appearance of the Three Worlds in accordance with reality: there is no Birth and Death, whether backsliding or emerging; likewise there is neither existence in the world nor non-extinction; they are not real; they are not void. they are not thus; they are not different. It is not as the Three Worlds see the Three Worlds. In such a matter as this the Tathagata sees clearly and is without error. Because the various beings have distinctions of various types of natures, various types of desires, various types of actions, and various types of recollections, I, desiring to cause various good karmic roots to be produced, by means of considerable causalities, parables, and words, preach various kinds of dharmas: The work of the Buddha which I perform I have never once abandoned even for a brief time. Thus the time since I attained Buddhahood is very great, long, and distant. My life is immeasurable asamkheyas of kalpas and I abide forever and am not extinguished." (Lotus Sutra Chapter 16)

John Quincy Adams 6th president of the United States [1767 - 1848] on Islam

"The precept of the koran is, perpetual war against all who deny, that Mahomet is the prophet of God. The vanquished may purchase their lives, by the payment of tribute; the victorious may be appeased by a false and delusive promise of peace; and the faithful follower of the prophet, may submit to the imperious necessities of defeat: but the command to propagate the Moslem creed by the sword is always obligatory, when it can be made effective. The commands of the prophet may be performed alike, by fraud, or by force" (Blunt, 29:274).

John Quincy Adams knew the truth about Islam.

The SGI lie and the truth

The SGI lie:

"Soka Gakkai is a modern lay Buddhist movement. It is the largest Buddhist sect in Japan with 8 or more million members and an additional 4 million members in other countries. [8] “Soka Gakkai” translates as “Value-Creation Society.” The organization follows the teachings of Nichiren Daishonin (1222–82), a Japanese monk who crafted a reinterpretation of Buddhism based on the Lotus Sutra. Since its founding in1930, The Soka Gakkai has been the object of a lot of criticism and even persecution. Unlike other Nichiren sects, Soka Gakkai does not have a class of priests, and its emphasis is on the practitioner rather than dogma......"Daveler16 (talk) 21:51, 10 July 2014 (UTC)

The truth:

The organization follows the teachings of Nichiu, Nichikan, Nichigen, and the Three Presidents of the Soka Gakka. Like other Nichiren sects, Soka Gakkai has a priestly class [in Ghana, in Singapore, not to mention the business suited SGI priests of Shinanomachi*, Tokyo] but it's emphasis is on Daisaku Ikeda rather than doctrine.

Actual Proof that SGI is a phony cult

Proof that SGI is a phony cult

"We are Buddhas, everyone is a Buddha"  [except those with bad breath?]... Shallow SGI pseudo-Buddhists prove that SGI is a phony cult at the 4:46 mark:

Will Putin atom bomb Istanbul, the Dardanells and the Bosphorus?

What do you think?

SGI is having a major impact on global nuclear disarmament.................NOT

http://news.yahoo.com/dod-official-us-pursuing-response-russia-treaty-breach-001852321--politics.html

Even many SGI members believe in the teachings of the Three Stages School

"San-chieh (540–594) Also known as Hsin-hsing. A priest of the Sui dynasty who founded the Three Stages school (Chin San-chieh-chiao). He asserted that, during the third stage in the propagation of Buddhism, or the Latter Day of the Law (that he held had begun in 550), people should not adhere to any particular sutra but revere all teachings without discrimination. This school spread widely, but was proscribed in 600 by imperial decree because its doctrine contradicted those of the earlier schools and ran counter to government policy. It was again suppressed in 725 by imperial decree during the T’ang dynasty. This dealt the school a fatal bow, resulting in its rapid decline." -- SGI Glossary

Unfortunately, this school lives in the hearts of many modern Buddhists, including SGI [Interfaith] Buddhists.

More even than nuclear weapons?

"A hundred, thousand, ten thousand, million times more than mad elephants, vicious horses, fierce bulls, savage dogs, poisonous snakes, poisonous thorns, treacherous bluffs, steep cliffs, floods, evil men, evil countries, evil towns, evil dwellings, evil wives, wicked children, and malicious retainers, the people of Japan today should fear those high-ranking priests* who keep the precepts and yet hold distorted views!" -- Nichiren

*Today it s the SGI business suited SGI priests who are most to be feared.

"[Of all the translators,] Kumarajiva is the only one who did not mix his personal views with the Lord Buddha Shakyamuni's scriptures." -- Nichiren

Certainly, SGI's and NST's ignorant self serving translators are not equal to Kumarajiva.

Nichiren might have well been speaking about SGI Chas or SGI Rchard

"When, based on the sutras, I speak in general terms of such matters, only I, of all the 4,994,828 men and women in Japan, am thought strange, and the other 4,994,827 persons all regard me as their enemy. Strangely enough, they do not follow Shakyamuni, who is their sovereign, teacher, and parent. What is more, they curse and strike me, drive me away, and, by resorting to slander, cause me to be sentenced to exile or execution. It is the way of the world that the poor fawn upon the rich, the lowly revere the noble, and the few follow the many. So even those persons who chanced to put their faith in the Lotus Sutra are intimidated by society and fear others, and many of them fall into hell. This is most pitiful.

But, perhaps because of Nichiren’s ignorant outlook or some past karma, when I read the statements that “the Lotus is the foremost,” that “among the sutras I have preached, now preach, and will preach, this Lotus Sutra is the most difficult to believe and the most difficult to understand,” and that “I am the only person who can rescue and protect others,” I take them to be the golden words of the Thus Come One himself. They are not my own words at all.

The people of today, however, believe the pronouncements of their own teachers to be the golden words of the Thus Come One. Thus they place such pronouncements on the same level as the Lotus Sutra, considering the two to be of equal authority; or they regard these teachings as superior to the Lotus Sutra; or they reason that though their teacher’s pronouncements are inferior they are well suited to the capacity of the people."

Whose disciples according to Nichiren?

"The countless Bodhisattvas of the Earth were the disciples of Shakyamuni Buddha, the lord of teachings, from the time he first set his mind on and attained enlightenment in the remote past.." -- Nichiren

Listen up SGI and Nichiren Shu

"Now in this latter, evil age, great evil arises less from secular wrongdoing than in connection with the doctrines of the religious world." -- Nichiren

The SGI and the Nichiren Shu should take this teaching to heart, especially the SGI with their secular approach to violence [Victory Over Violence, anti-bullying campaigns, and nuclear disarmament initiatives].

Nichiren teaches that such efforts divorced from forceful religious conversion [shakubuku] are doomed to failure. One need only look at the actual situation of moving ever closer to nuclear war, despite SGI President Ikeda's dialogues and lectures on "soft power", to know that what Nichiren, I, and others are telling you, is true.

Daisaku Ikeda versus Nichiren # 100

"I remained silent for 10 years concerning the behavior of the priesthood." -- Daisaku Ikeda

"I, Nichiren, am the only person who is aware of this. If I should begrudge my life and thus refrain from speaking out, not only would I be failing to repay the debt of gratitude I owe to my country, but I would also be acting as an enemy of Shakyamuni Buddha, the lord of teachings. On the other hand, I knew from the outset that, if I set aside my fears and declared things exactly as they are, I would be sentenced to death. And even if I should escape the death penalty, I would surely be condemned to exile. So great is the debt of gratitude I owe the Buddha, however, that I have not let others intimidate me, but have spoken out."

SGI-USA San Francisco Regions 1 and 2 newsletters, January 28, 1999

"If you haven't already gotten your DAIMOKU CARD IN THE SHAPE OF THE UNITED STATES it isn't too late. This is an idea of the youth division, to have individuals chant 52 hours of daimoku for justice and victory by Nov. 18, 1999 so that 10 billion daimoku total is chanted so that all Danto temples will shut down. The sheer power of such daimoku had that effect in New York. Get them at SFCC or from YD leaders."[emphasis in the original]

SGI Vice General Director, Guy McCloskey had this to say about the campaign to use prayers to close temples:

Subject: Temple related Mtgs Report

From: kyosh...@sgi-usa.org (Kay Yoshikawa)

During the recent training course in Japan, the representatives of the various SGI organizations renewed their determination to not allow one other member to be affected (or infected) by the Nikken sect. At the June 1999 meeting of the SGI-USA Central Executive Committee, the members agreed to focus on faith, practice and study as the keys to victory. We will pray to the Gohonzon that the US temples will close and that the priests will return to Japan; that no one among our current members will be deceived by the priesthood; and that those who have gone to the temple will arouse doubts to understand the correct practice of the Daishonin's Buddhism and withdraw from the temple...

>From the Official SGI "Ichinet" message board:

> Actually, Paul, you can ask Mr. Zaitsu... I resigned my position in
> official protest against the current campaign to chant to close all the
> temples.

"Tell me, why should we have such sympathy for those seeking to destroy the Law? The only mistake I think SGI's making is not chanting 2 Billion daimoku, instead of one. There were also people who needed a visit from Fred Zaitsu far worse than you. The only difference is that they aren't grandstanding for attention. " Paul Wersant, SGI-USA leader

On that same board:

Mon, 09 Aug 1999 13:07:08 -0700 thomas ultican writes:

"Every morning with Gongyo, I pray for the perverted Buddhist doctrines of Nikken Abe to be totally discredited and defeated. I pray for the demise of the Nikken Sect and that the Nichiren Shoshu temple in the bay area be closed because of lack of support. I feel these are positive things. I am not praying for bad things to happen to people. I am praying for evil philosophy to be eliminated." -- Tom Ultican, SGI-USA member

"It is time to stand up with the hearts of lions and chase these heretical priests from our land. I do not want any more Americans to fall into the spiritual death traps set by the temple." Terry Ruby, SGI-USA member

"I'll chant for the temples to close and for the sad people like your self to find wisdom to cure your blindness." Public statement by Joe Stevens, "Jinzai-net" [SGI-USA Internet propaganda organization] security official (from the SGI Discussion board)

"We learn to guide our lives to happiness and good fortune by practicing the Mystic Law, and sometimes our actions also involve protecting the Law. This is one of those cases... And since you, a Nichiren Shu member object to it as well, it seems the daimoku campaign is having an effect. I will therefore redouble my own efforts to chant for the temples to close, and I invite everybody to join me!" Wiley, SGI-USA member (AOL Buddhism bulletin board)

"Yes, some members have mentioned using the campaign to close temples. I PERSONALLY support that idea.... Those SGI-USA members who are chanting for the temples to close are chanting just for that -- for the temples in the US to close." -- Public statement by Kathy Ruby SGI-USA

True nature of the Daimoku campaign
Date: Wed, 24 Mar 1999 16:08:29 GMT

All that you have proved is that some in the SF Region regard the campaign to be a "close-the-temples" campaign. It is not represented that way in the WT or any official national publication, as you well know. Of course, I have no problem personally with chanting for the Nikken Sect temple in my neighborhood to close --another Public statement by SGI member Kathy Ruby)

"We all know people going through a bad divorce, or with evil parents, who chanted for them to die. They never did, there is no easy way to get rid of evil ex-spouses, parents, or evil High Priests...I might have chanted for Nikken to die if I had thought it would do any good." -- Public statement by Chris Holte SGI-USA

"Based on the amount of needless hostility that has arisen between the Gakkai and the Temple over some clearly self serving dogmas that needed to be jettisoned by both organizations, I can understand that members should just chant that he would "die or something". I still wish I could lock Nikken on Sado in a temple in a graveyard for about one year, while Nembutsu believers wait in ambush and the snow comes in through the walls." -- Public statement by Chris Holte

"All I've ever heard about is SGI members CHANTING for temples to close- not the outlawing of a religion." -- Public statement by Jim Celer, SGI-USA

Regarding chanting to close temples: I regret that this campaign was given such a poor shortcut to what we really need to chant about. Since I do view that the SGI is correct and generally doing okay in its approach to Buddhism, I want to see it continue to grow. I don't need to tell you that the Daishonin always debated and was not subtle in his attacks against religious organizations that he felt were leading people to unhappiness. Well, SGI feels this way about Nichiren Shoshu... -- >From your perspective, you should be overjoyed that we have the 10 billion campaign to close the temples. Chanting Daimoku works. If Nichiren Shoshu is indeed correct in it's study and interpretation of Buddhism, then we will receive the negative consequences of our campaign. It really is putting everything on the line, isn't it?--Email from Craig Ellis, SGI-USA member)

>From the public AOL Buddhist newsgroup:

> Has anyone heard about the latest chanting goal for SGI members?
> Goal: Chant one billion Daimoku to close all NSTemples

"Perhaps most disturbing of all is how the SGI members don't even try to hide their hate and intolerance, blatantly disregarding basic Human Rights and even their own SGI Charter -- Craig:

"I just recently heard about how the New York members did a special daimoku [Buddhist Prayer] campain [sic] to close the temple annex that was near the Cultural Center. Great work! Now the youth division of San Francisco region will be starting a daimoku [Buddhist Prayer] campaign [sic] to close all the temples in the U.S.A. Maybe it will have an effect on the temple in Spain." -- Public statement by Michael, SGI member, Stockton (posted on the SGI's public bulletin board 1-10-99)

"I finally got to go to the Culture Center again. It was such fun. They had a little play called Spiritually Incorrect. They gave us a good laugh about the situation as kind of a kick off to ask for 1 billion daimoku to close all the temples. Everyone was excited by it. I plan on filling up several cards of chant time. (ibid)

<<SGI has set a daimoku goal to close NST Temples?<<

[Marc Strumpf, before he left Honmon Butsuryu Shu in favour of Christianity]. If it works..can we have them?

Marc, Please join in. I think it's a great idea to use daimoku for problems, and the Nikken sect is such a negative force that I can't see what's wrong with chanting to close their temples down.I certainly don't want a Nikken temple in my area. I have no problem with people who practice with other Nichiren sects, the only problem I have is when they single out situations they may have had with individuals and blame it on the whole organization, or when they spread tabloid stories around about President Ikeda that aren't true... The less Nikken temples the less opportunities for people to support Devadatta. Is it true the followers of Devadatta had a small sect that lasted about 500 years after the Buddha's passing? Hopefully, with daimoku, the Nikken sect won't last that long. (Public statement by Maureen, SGI-USA)

Re: The Prophecies of the World Tribune
Date:1999/01/21

Closing all the temples is not a positive thing? I don't see anything negative about it. You are not unlike the hoards of sterile bugs they breed to destroy a species, after they think they have mated and stop looking to mate, they find out that they were fooled, and have nothing in side, they just die empty. Of course it is a result of our communal actions from the past that we have to suffer the likes of you and the Nikken Shu. I don't think the most of us want to repeat those causes and for you to go away and stop causing misery and confusion means that we would have to change our negative karma first. So chanting to close the temples is a good thing and the result will be that we finally overcome the negative destiny we have to suffer y'all and then y'all will have some other mission to fullfill cause one hand clapping doesn't make much sound, like you gotta make the cause to get the effect. At a more profound level, you actually are no different than the despots and dictators you complain about. You just haven't been give the power to enact your will to that degree. They have just kept you tethered in. Even when you get loose for a moment, you still stay put. Like the guy in front of the fire making boogeyman shadows and the fools who believe in those shadows. Chanting to close the temples is a good thing. Chanting for your happiness ridiculous. Oh please Mr Bill can't you just make the cancer happy? (Public statement by Bruce H. Miller SGI member, San Francisco)

"What right does any religion have to persecute individuals, temples, churches, etc. in this country? They have no right and it is strictly forbidden by our laws. Yet an army has been formed to fight a religious war in the USA that started and belongs in japan. Many people chanted for the high priest to die before chanting to close the temples. While most people in SGI-USA find this disgusting, and have not participated, there are those who do." (From an SGI message board)
