As I wrote in the very beginning of the pandemic...

India would surpass all cases and deaths. Brahmanism is a slanderous religion which persecuted  and killed millions of Buddhists in the Former and Middle Days of the Law. The roosters have come home to roost. That and the overpopulation and poor hygiene of the people who still bathe in the polluted ganges as a religious rite. Modi, the Prime Minister, is not only powerless to to save his people, he is incompetent and was a Trump boot licker.

 Again, for telling the truth.

Some cut and paste of Nichiren's teachings on the Lotus Sutra for Greg Romero

"As for the person who slanders the Lotus Sutra, though he may not be serious at heart, if he so much as manifests the outward appearance of animosity, disparages the sutra even in jest, or makes light, not of the sutra itself, but of those who act in its name, then, the sutra says, he will fall into the hell of incessant suffering for countless kalpas of the kind described above." - On Rebuking Slander of the Law and Eradicating Sin

"After Many Treasures Buddha had closed the door of the treasure tower and the other Buddhas had returned to their original lands, not even Shakyamuni Buddha himself could have denied the Lotus Sutra, whatever other sutras he might have expounded in an effort to do so, because the other Buddhas had all joined in affirming its truth. That is why in the Universal Worthy and Nirvana sutras, which follow the Lotus Sutra, the Lotus Sutra is praised but never disparaged." - The Teaching for the Latter Day

"Yet there are Buddhist scholars in Japan today who cast aside the Lotus Sutra and instead devote themselves exclusively to practicing the invocation of Amida Buddha’s name. There are others who teach the Hinayana precepts and speak contemptuously of the priests [who were ordained with the Mahayana precepts] on Mount Hiei, as well as those who present what they describe as a separate transmission outside the sutras, disparaging the correct doctrine of the Lotus Sutra. Such persons may surely be said to misunderstand the time. They are like the monk Superior Intent who slandered Bodhisattva Root of Joy, or the Scholar Gunaprabha who behaved with contempt toward Bodhisattva Maitreya, thus inviting the terrible sufferings of the Avīchi hell." - The Teaching, Capacity, Time and Country

"It was such an august and precious Lotus Sutra that in past existences I put under my knees, despised, scowled upon in disgust, and failed to believe in. In one way or another, I maliciously ridiculed those who, studying the teachings of the Lotus Sutra, taught them to even one person, and carried on the life of the Law. In addition, I did everything I could to hinder people from embracing the sutra by asserting that they should set it aside for a while because, though it might be suitable for practice in their next lifetime, it would be too difficult to practice in this one. Slanderous acts such as these have brought on the many severe persecutions I have suffered in my lifetime. Because I once disparaged the Lotus Sutra, the highest of all sutras, I am now looked down on, and my words go unheeded. The “Simile and Parable” chapter states that other people will neither concern themselves with one nor have sympathy for one, even though one sincerely tries to be friendly with them." - The Sufferings of Birth and Death are Nirvana

"The second of the two important matters is that I feel intense grief. The fourth volume of the Lotus Sutra states: “If there should be an evil person who, his mind destitute of goodness, should for the space of a kalpa appear in the presence of the Buddha and constantly curse and revile the Buddha, that person’s offense would still be rather light. But if there were a person who spoke only one evil word to curse or defame the lay persons or monks or nuns who read and recite the Lotus Sutra, then his offense would be very grave.” When I read this and similar passages, my belief is aroused, sweat breaks out from my body, and tears fall from my eyes like rain. I grieve that, by being born in this country, I have caused so many of its people to create the worst karma possible in a lifetime. Those who beat and struck Bodhisattva Never Disparaging came to repent of it while they were alive; yet, even so, their offenses were so difficult to expiate that they fell into the Avīchi hell and remained there for a thousand kalpas. But those who have done me harm have not yet repented of it even in the slightest." - The Four Debts of Gratitiude

"Is Nichiren not the votary of the Lotus Sutra? Are the voice-hearers protecting those who disparage the Lotus Sutra as a mere written teaching and who put forth their great lies about what they call a special transmission? Are they guarding those who write “Discard, close, ignore, abandon!” urging people to close the gate to the teachings of the Lotus Sutra and to throw away its scrolls, and who cause the ruin of the temples dedicated to the practice of the Lotus Sutra? The various heavenly deities swore before the Buddha to protect the votary of the Lotus Sutra, but now that they see how fierce are the great persecutions of this muddied age, do they fail to come down? The sun and the moon are still up in the sky. Mount Sumeru has not collapsed. The ocean tides ebb and flow, and the four seasons proceed in their normal order. Why then is there no sign of aid for the votary of the Lotus Sutra? My doubts grow deeper than ever." - The Opening of the Eyes

"The claim that T’ien-t’ai stole the doctrine of the five flavors, which is expounded in the Six Pāramitās Sutra, and made it a part of the teaching of his own school, is a charge made by the Great Teacher Kōbō, one that is wholly false and without basis. I say this because T’ien-t’ai in fact derived the doctrine of the five flavors from the Nirvana Sutra, not from the Six Pāramitās Sutra at all. The Six Pāramitās Sutra was not introduced to China until the fourth year of the Chen-yüan p.369era [788], or 190 years after the death of T’ien-t’ai, so how could T’ien-t’ai even have seen it? That completely false assertion is the work of the Great Teacher Kōbō.

All of the statements of the Six Pāramitās Sutra represent the teaching set forth when Shakyamuni had “not yet revealed the truth.” It is utterly absurd to think one can use them to disparage the Lotus Sutra!" - On the Relative Superiority of the True Word and Tendai School

"In the Hinayana sutras, the principle of nirvana of no remainder is “king,” and in comparison to the Hinayana precepts and meditation, the Hinayana wisdom is king. In the Mahayana sutras, the principle of the Middle Way is king. In the Flower Garland Sutra, the principle of the perfect fusion and unity of all phenomena is king. In the Wisdom sutras the principle of non-substantiality is king, while in the Great Collection Sutra the guarding of the correct Law is king. The Medicine Master Sutra is king among the sutras that describe the special vows taken by the Buddha Medicine Master; the Two-Volumed Sutra is king among the sutras that describe the forty-eight vows of the Buddha Amida; and the Mahāvairochana Sutra is king among the sutras that describe mudras and mantras. But none of these is the king of all the sutras preached during the Buddha’s lifetime. The Lotus Sutra is the great king of all the ultimate doctrines expounded in all the sutras, such as supreme truth and worldly truth, the three truths of non-substantiality, temporary existence, and the Middle Way, mudras and mantras, the principle of the unconditioned, the twelve great vows, and the forty-eight vows. To understand this is to understand the teachings." - What it Means to Slander the Law

"The Great Teacher Dengyō in The Outstanding Principles of the Lotus Sutra writes: “The Tendai Lotus school is superior to the other schools because of the sutra that it is founded on. Therefore, in declaring its superiority, it is not simply praising itself and disparaging others. I hope that gentlemen of wisdom will examine the matter of sutras and on that basis decide which school they will follow.”" - Errors of the True Word and Other Schools

"Finally, with regard to the statement by the Great Teacher Kōbō, who cites On the Mahayana Treatise as his proof, that [the Buddha of] the Lotus Sutra still belongs to “the region of darkness,” and that the Lotus Sutra is a doctrine of “childish theory.” Such an assertion is totally preposterous.

The work known as On the Mahayana Treatise was written by Bodhisattva Nāgārjuna, who was a follower of the Thus Come One Shakyamuni. Why would a work by the follower speak disparagingly of the Lotus Sutra, which the teacher declared to be the foremost among all the sutras expounded in the course of his preaching life, and call it a doctrine of “childish theory”?

Moreover, there is in fact no such passage to be found in On the Mahayana Treatise. The teachings set forth in this work deal with the specific teaching, a doctrine expounded in the provisional sutras. This teaching cannot compare with the perfect teaching or with the true teaching, both embodied in the Lotus Sutra. How, then, could such a work be used to disparage the Lotus Sutra?" On the Relative Superiority of True Word and Tendai Schools

"His wife is a believer in the Lotus Sutra and therefore, although he may not have thought that it is the true sutra, it seems unlikely that he himself was completely opposed to it. This is a cause for hope. On the other hand, he put his faith in the Nembutsu and the Nembutsu believers, who disparage the Lotus Sutra, and was probably a Nembutsu believer himself, so I have doubts as to what kind of existence awaits him in his next life.

It is like the case of those who take service in the palace of the ruler and labor diligently there. Some are rewarded by the ruler’s favor and some are not. But if any of them commits the slightest error, it is quite certain that that person will be punished. It is the same way with the Lotus Sutra. No matter how fervently a person may appear to put faith in it, if, knowingly or unknowingly, he has dealings with the enemies of the Lotus Sutra, he will undoubtedly end up in the hell of incessant suffering." - Condolences on a Deceased Husband

"This passage of commentary is describing the benefits gained by the fiftieth person who hears word of the Lotus Sutra passed on from one person to another. The Buddha, having weighed these benefits carefully, kindly explains for us that all the benefits gained by practicing the provisional teachings over numerous kalpas, or the benefits of a great sage, cannot compare to the benefits gained by even an ignorant person who for a moment hears of the Lotus Sutra, responds with joy, and thus forms a bond with it. As we see in the sutra itself, the latter benefits are a hundred, a thousand, ten thousand, a million times greater. The Great Teacher T’ien-t’ai in his commentary is making this fact perfectly clear through his analogies. The tree known as the nyagrodha in one day spreads out a hundred spans in all directions and towers on high, and the bird known as a kalavinka, even while a mere chick, has a voice superior to that of all other kinds of birds large or small.

The long time required in the practice of the provisional teachings is compared to the slow rate at which many kinds of plants and trees grow to maturity, while the swiftness with which one attains Buddhahood by practicing the Lotus Sutra is compared to the way in which the tree mentioned above spreads a hundred spans in a single day. And the sages great and small of the provisional teachings are being compared to the other types of birds, while the ordinary person who has barely begun practice of the Lotus Sutra is compared to the kalavinka, which, while still in the shell, has a voice superior to that of all other birds.

The Great Teacher Miao-lo in his commentary explains this further, stating: “Probably those who are mistaken in their understanding fail to realize how great is the benefit gained even by a beginner [in the practice of the Lotus Sutra]. They assume that benefit is reserved for those who are far advanced in practice and disparage beginners. Therefore, the sutra here demonstrates its power by revealing that though their practice is shallow, the benefit that results is profound indeed.”

Ignorant persons in the latter age admit that the principles of the Lotus Sutra are very profound, but assert that they are not suited to our inferior capacities. This passage of commentary is describing such persons, who, while paying great respect to the teachings of the sutra, underrate people’s capacity to understand them and hence turn away from the sutra.

Again, the Great Teacher Miao-lo laments the way in which the teachings of this sutra are rejected in this latter age of ours, stating: “The reason that people hear of this teaching of perfect and immediate enlightenment but fail to respect it is that in recent times there is much confusion and misunderstanding among those who practice the Mahayana doctrines. And the situation is even worse because in the Middle and Latter Days of the Law people have little feeling and little faith. Though the teaching of perfect and immediate enlightenment may overflow the storehouses and its scrolls more than fill the sutra boxes, people give it not a moment’s consideration but rather turn away with closed eyes. How painful it is to think of them, being born in vain, dying in vain!

“Some people may say, ‘If you simply listen to such teachings but do not carry them out in practice, what good can that bring?’ But they fail to understand the profound and eternally lasting benefits of the Lotus Sutra. The Sutra of the Heavenly Son Abiding Goodness states: ‘Manjushrī said to Shāriputra, “Those who hear the Law, speak slanderously of it, and fall into hell as a result, are still superior to those who offer alms to Buddhas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges. For although they fall into hell, when they emerge from hell, they will on the contrary be able to hear the Law again.”’ Manjushrī is here making a comparison between the slanderers of the Law and those who, while offering alms to the Buddhas, fail to listen to the Law. Those who, on hearing the Law, slander it, are still by doing so planting the seeds for enlightenment in the distant future. How much more so, therefore, is this true of those who, on hearing the Law, ponder it carefully and diligently put it into practice.”36

The Great Teacher Miao-lo also states: “Even a single phrase cherished deep in one’s heart will without fail help one reach the opposite shore. To ponder one phrase and practice it is to exercise navigation [in crossing the sea of the sufferings of birth and death]. Responding with joy, seeing and listening to the teachings, are one’s host and companions. Whether one accepts or rejects the teachings, they have entered one’s ear and one has thus established a bond with them. And then, though one may comply with them or go against them, in the end one will because of this bond be able to achieve liberation.” - The Meaning of the Sacred Teachings of the Buddha's Lifetime

"Some persons use the practice of reciting the name of Amida Buddha to mislead others and persuade them to abandon the Lotus Sutra, committing the error of turning their backs on what is superior and following what is inferior. Others propound the principles of the Zen school, calling them a special transmission “outside the sutras” and claiming that the so-called Buddhist teachings are not the true Law, disparaging the teachings in this way and displaying an attitude of great arrogance. Still others advocate the doctrines of the Dharma Characteristics, Three Treatises, or Flower Garland schools and relegate the Lotus Sutra to an inferior position, or proclaim themselves adherents of the True Word, or Mahāvairochana, school, asserting that the Lotus Sutra embodies only the exoteric teachings of the Thus Come One Shakyamuni and cannot compare to the doctrines upheld by the True Word school.

In this way, some persons go astray in doctrinal matters of their own accord, others do so because of the teachers they rely upon. Some propound mistaken doctrines handed down from the founder of the school or its scholars and teachers, propagating them over the long years and claiming that these are the true doctrine. Others, possessed by evil spirits or by the heavenly devil, spread evil doctrines, believing them to be the correct teaching. Some, having become familiar with some petty doctrine of Hinayana, arrogantly claim that the doctrines practiced by Mahayana believers are in error, and in their eagerness to spread their little doctrine attempt to suppress or take over the mountain temples where great doctrines and secret doctrines are taught. Then there are those other fellows who, having become possessed by a devil called the devil of compassion, don their three robes, take up their one alms bowl, and practice the one teaching of Hinayana, with their little doctrine confronting the temples of Mount Hiei, which are the rafters and roof beam of the entire nation, and Mount Hiei’s leaders, who are paragons of wisdom, and because the doctrines taught by these leaders are at variance with their own, presuming to call them men of erroneous views and men of evil.

With evil opinions such as this, these men proceed to deceive the rulers of the nation, leading them woefully astray and causing them to lose faith in the correct teaching. Such men do nothing but bring about the destruction of the nation and the destruction of Buddhism. - The Differences between Hinayana and Mahayana

"Or again in volume eight of the Lotus Sutra we read: “If anyone sees a person who accepts and upholds this sutra and tries to expose the faults or evils of that person, whether what he speaks is true or not, he will in his present existence be afflicted with white leprosy. If anyone disparages or laughs at that person, then in existence after existence he will have teeth that are missing or spaced far apart, ugly lips, a flat nose, hands and feet that are gnarled or deformed, and eyes that are squinty. His body will have a foul odor, with evil sores that run pus and blood, p.199and he will suffer from water in the belly, shortness of breath, and other severe and malignant illnesses.” - Explaining the Causation of the Ten Worlds

Soka Gakkai offers lip service to the Lotus Sutra and the authentic writings of Nichiren

They embrace forgeries in Nichiren's name, confuse the teachings of the first half of the Lotus Sutra with the second half and embrace the earlier writings of Nichiren at the expense of the later, more important writings.

What made her save the Gohonzon scroll before saving her children?

"Oh boy, where do I start. I am the first son of two boys. I just turned 48 and my brother will be 44 this year. He lives in San Jose and I live in Honolulu. My parents live down the street from me but I never go there or speak to them because of my mother. My father will be 71 this year, my mother is 75. She is from Japan. My mother joined a horrible Buddhist cult at the urging of her sister, while my father was stationed at Sasebo Naval Base in 1964. My father has been an alcoholic and heavy smoker ever since I was a baby. Although he eventually quit drinking around 1987 he continued to smoke for another 10 or so years. As you can imagine I did not have a happy family life. They argued every single night from as far back as I can remember, which would be around the age of 3 or so and continued until long after I left home at 18 to join the Air Force. I barely graduated high school and in fact dropped all remaining classes to graduate with the minimum number of credits because of the extreme tension at home. My mother always complained about my father. It's all she did all her life, complain about him, about how he wasn't a man compared to the men in the Buddhist cult. SGI-USA. Maybe some of you have heard of it or even belong to it. Used to be called NSA. Anyway, what this cult is doing to people in this country and around the world should come to the attention of every single national security and intelligence agency in the U.S. and abroad. Although it purports to be a peace loving Buddhist religious organization, it is nothing more than a self serving, publicity seeking, money hungry donation and recruitment machine. This cult has caused endless problems for this family since she joined it and only served to fuel her already unstable mental condition. She is adept at hiding her hateful bitterness to the world in front of strangers, but if you could only hear the things she says or the verbal, physical and emotional abuse I suffered with, by her hands, then you would immediately have her institutionalized in a State Mental Facility. You are fortunate to have tight knit families that take care of each other. And I applaud the self sacrificing efforts of all sons and daughters who are caring for their parents. Such a situation is unlikely to occur, in my family. My mother has told me, while sitting in front of that Buddhist alter with pure vengeance and hatred in her voice, how much she hates me. It was like the devil was right there in person. I was stomped on like a helpless puppy by her, when I was 7. When I was 15 she began withholding food from me, for not toeing the organizations' line correctly, with the correct attitude. I was viciously attacked by a very powerful Akita when I was 16 while delivering newspapers. My brother just happened to pass by and I showed him the wounds. They were clean through my arms. I guess he told my father because he came out of nowhere and my mother was right there, complaining about the situation because she wanted the car to go to a Buddhist meeting. Again, her tone was hateful and bitter. Like missing a meeting or should I say, to take care of her own child's medical emergency was no matter compared to going to a meeting, so she could get benefits. I know of a mother who during a fire, went to save the object of worship, a scroll made of paper and wood before taking into account the safety of her own children. The children (2) were burned alive in the fire. She could hear their screams as they were burning to death. I think this woman left the organization because she couldn't believe the treatment she got from it's leaders. They only urged her not to quit, but couldn't answer her questions concerning her children or what it was that made her go for that scroll and not save her children first. (Brainwashing.) Through the years I have tried in vain to be patient and absorb the attacks on my character but to no avail. Several years ago my father developed lung cancer and my mother blamed me, using my own fathers sickness, claiming that it was the power of this great organization that made my father contract this illness, claiming that because I talked bad about the religion, this is the result. It was my fault. America, my friends, be alert and vigilant. They will come knocking on your door someday or take advantage of you when you are vulnerable. I have not had contact with my family since that accusation and my own brother doesn't speak to me. I have become estranged from my father. I don't know what's going on, or what's going to happen. I communicate with my father only through e-mails, but I dare not call. He's doing O.K. but there's nothing I can do. I've wanted to get this off my chest for quite some time. And I don't mean to offend anyone."

Anyone priest we know?

“‘The monks [whom you are speaking of] preach various teachings, but still they are not able to utter “the lion’s roar.”... Nor are they able to refute and convert evil persons who go against the correct teaching. Monks of this kind can bring no benefit either to themselves or to the populace. You should realize that they are in fact shirkers and idlers. Though they are careful in observing the precepts and maintain spotless conduct, you should realize that they cannot achieve anything. [Then a monk raises “the lion’s roar.”...] Those who break the precepts, upon listening to his preaching, are all enraged to the point where they attack him. This preacher of the Law, though he may in the end lose his life, is still worthy of being called a person who observes the precepts and brings benefits to both himself and others.’” -  Opening of the Eyes

Reddit Nichiren

Since i have been thrown off Reddit Nichiren the Soka Gakkai cult has taken over. Posts and discussions are very shallow. It is a sorry situation.

Soka Gakkai cult Mentor-Disciple Doctrine does not derive from the Lotus Sutra nor writings of Nichiren

“The Buddha says determining the future, 'Depend upon the teaching, not upon the people.' Bodhisattva Nagarjuna says, 'If one depends upon the scripture it is a correct argument; if one does not depend upon the scripture it is an incorrect argument.' T’ien-t’ai says, 'Again, if it conforms to the scripture, quote and use it. If there is no corresponding sentence or corresponding meaning, then one should not believe and accept.' Dengyo says, 'Depend upon what the Buddha taught, not upon the oral tradition.' If one follows these scriptures, treatises and commentaries, then one should not base oneself on dreams. One should only treasure the passages in the scriptures and treatises…”

We are not alone

"I expound only orthodox Nichiren: practice as nichiren did. Exactly. Too the letter. To the best of your strength. What I share is what Nichiren shared with me. It is NOT my wisdom or ideas: they are in the Lotus Sutra. Shakyamuni Buddha is the voice speaking the 16th Chapter. Revere Shakyamuni as your father, teacher, parent. Chant the seven character: Namu Myoho renge kyo. Enshrine an actual Nichiren gohonzon in your home. Basic Nichiren orthodoxy, to cure you of the poison you don’t even accept you’ve ingested. Please follow Nichiren, you three friends here on MITA!!

This is NOT Nichiren Shu. (I’m staying on topic).... To practice as Nichiren means follow strictly, like Kempon Hokke, but I don’t trust anything religious that comes after Nichiren.... but Shakymuni Buddha is constantly preaching, and you can attend at any time." - Giggling Spriggan exhorting the three SGIMita people to practice with the same faith as Nichiren

Some guidance to live by

The next time a priest or a Gakkai leader deprecates you, insisting that you receive “training” or “guidance” from them or Ikeda, tell them, "The Gohonzon is the teacher of all Buddhas throughout the Three Existences." You may also cite the following:

“The Buddha, replying to Maitreya’s doubts, said: “Ajita, these bodhisattvas . . . whom you have never seen before in the past—when I had attained supreme perfect enlightenment in this saha world, I converted and guided these bodhisattvas, trained their minds, and caused them to develop a longing for the way.” (Opening of the Eyes)

The Bodhisattvas of the Earth have been trained by the Original Buddha and reminded of his guidance by the venerable Daishonin:

“Now , when the Eternal Buddha was revealed in the essential section of the Lotus Sutra, this world of endurance (Saha-world) became the Eternal Pure Land, indestructible even by the three calamities of conflagration, flooding, and strong winds, which are said to destroy the world. It transcends the four periods of cosmic change: the kalpa of construction, continuance, destruction and emptiness. Sakyamuni Buddha, the Lord-preacher of this pure land, has never died in the past, nor will He be born in the future. He exists forever throughout the past present and future. All those who receive His GUIDANCE are one with this Eternal Buddha.” — The True Object of Devotion for Observing the Mind

“Since Sakyamuni Buddha is eternal and all other Buddhas in the universe are his manifestations, then those great bodhisattvas converted by manifested Buddhas are also disciples of Lord Sakyamuni Buddha. If the “Life Span of the Buddha” chapter had not been expounded, it would be like the sky without the sun and moon, a country without a king, mountains and rivers without gems, or a man without a soul. nevertheless, seemingly knowledgeable men of such provisional schools of Buddhism as Ch’eng-kuan of the Hua-yen, Chia-hsiang of the San-lun, Tz’u-en of the Fa-hsiang, and Kobo of the shingon tried to extol their own canons by stating: “The Lord of the Flower Garland Sutra represents the reward-body (hojin) of the Buddha whereas that of the Lotus Sutra the accomodative body (ojin);” or “the Buddha in the sixteenth chapter of the Lotus is an Illusion; it is the great Sun Buddha who is enlightened.” clouds cover the moon and slanderers hide wise men. When people slander, ordinary yellow rocks appear to be of gold and slanderers seem to be wise. Scholars in this age of decay, blinded by slanderous words, do not see the value of a gold in the “Lifespan of the Buddha” chapter. Even among men of the Tendai school some are fooled into taking a yellow rock for gold. They should know that if Sakyamuni had not been the Eternal Buddha, there could not have been so many who received GUIDANCE from Him. ” — The Opening of the Eyes

Were a priest or SGI leader then to assert that the Eternal Buddha is Original Enlightenment, you may point out the principle of individuation, the personification and behavior of the Master of Teachings Lord Shakyamuni Buddha, the Original Three Bodied Tathagata, stating, “Of what use is your training and guidance? I have been trained by the Eternal Buddha Shakyamuni and Nichiren Daishonin." You may further cite the following passages from the Opening of the Eyes:

“When we come to the essential teaching of the Lotus Sutra, then the belief that Shakyamuni first obtained Buddhahood during his present lifetime is demolished, and the effects of the four teachings are likewise demolished. When the effects of the four teachings are demolished, the causes of the four teachings are likewise demolished. Thus the cause and effect of the Ten Worlds as expounded in the earlier sutras and the theoretical teaching of the Lotus Sutra are wiped out, and the cause and effect of the Ten Worlds in the essential teaching are revealed. This is the doctrine of original cause and original effect. It reveals that the nine worlds are all present in beginningless Buddhahood and that Buddhahood is inherent in the beginningless nine worlds. This is the true mutual possession of the Ten Worlds, the true hundred worlds and thousand factors, the true three thousand realms in a single moment of life.” — The Opening of the Eyes

and

“Answer: The “Expedient Means” chapter in volume one of the Lotus Sutra states, “The Buddhas wish to open the door of Buddha wisdom to all living beings.” This refers to the world of Buddhahood inherent in the nine worlds. The “Life Span” chapter states: “Thus, since I attained Buddhahood, an extremely long period of time has passed. My life span is an immeasurable number of asamkhya kalpas, and during that time I have constantly abided here without ever entering extinction. Good men, originally I practiced the bodhisattva way, and the life span that I acquired then has yet to come to an end but will last twice the number of years that have already passed.” Here the sutra refers to the nine worlds inherent in Buddhahood.” — The True Object of Worship

And finally, to drive home our point, you may cite Nichiren Daishonin in the One Essential Phrase:

“Even though one neither reads nor studies the sutra, chanting the title alone is the source of tremendous good fortune. The sutra teaches that women, evil men, and those in the realms of animals and hell— in fact, all the beings of the Ten Worlds— can attain Buddhahood in their present form. [This is an incomparably greater wonder than] fire being produced by a stone taken from the bottom of a river, or a lantern lighting up a place that has been dark for a hundred, a thousand, or ten thousand years. If even the most ordinary things of this world are such wonders, then how much more wondrous is the power of the Buddhist Law! We ordinary beings are fettered by evil karma, earthly desires, and the sufferings of birth and death. But due to the three inherent potentials of the Buddha nature— innate Buddhahood, the wisdom to perceive it, and the actions to manifest it— we can without doubt reveal the Buddha’s three bodies— the Dharma body, the reward body, and the manifested body. The Great Teacher Dengyo states, “Through the power of the Lotus Sutra of the Wonderful Law they can do so in their present form.” He is referring to the example of the dragon king’s daughter, who achieved Buddhahood in her reptilian form through the power of the Lotus Sutra. Do not doubt this in the least. Please tell your husband that I will explain this in detail when I see him.”

He doesn’t say, “by the power of a living mentor, teacher, or priest.” He says, “through the power of the Lotus Sutra of the Wonderful Law.” Do not be fooled by the charlatans who don’t have even a mustard seed of faith.

who were the Japanese Tendai priests, Jikaku, Chisho, and Annen?

They were originally disciples of the Great Teacher Dengyo (Saicho) the Great. Dengyo was a Tientai priest who followed the Great Teacher Tientai and who revered the Lotus Sutra as the foremost teaching of the past, present, and future. They turned their back on the Lotus Sutra and their teacher Dengyo and for all intents and purposes became Shingon prelates.

Similarly, the priests and leaders of the Soka Gakkai, the Nichiren Shoshu, and the Nichiren Shu turned their backs on their teacher, Nichiren Daishonin, altering and deleting his teachings. Soka Gakkai and Nichiren Shoshu went so far to teach that the Lotus Sutra has lost its power in this Latter Day.

Short experience for those who like experiences

On 3/29 they removed a kidney. Can you believe it, no kidney function and cancer of the kidney. Fortunately it was localizrd and had not breached the capsule of the kidney. Anyway, I returned to work on 3/31. My wife, son, and doctors thought I was out of my mind and it is unheard of. I am extremely busy, seeing more than twenty patients a day.. I am gaining strength and appetite. I attrbibute my rapid healing to Namu Myoho renge kyo, Shakyamuni Buddha of the Juryo Chapter of the Lotus Sutra and Nichiren Daishonin. Please chant Namu Myoho renge kyo until the last moment of your lives and study the Lotus Sutra and writings of Nichiren. You may also benefit from reading scholarly articles on Nichiren in order to know what Nichiren actually taught, so much has been inserted or deleted from the teachings by evil priests and laymen. You can't go wrong with Nichiren's Five Major Writings, the Lotus Sutus and anything in Nichiren's hand.

FellowHuman007 (SGI member) recently stated: "Do YOU think having a mentor is a lot like being beaten regularly, made to do the most menial and sometimes disgusting tasks."

"The following is from the February 1999 Living Buddhism, at p. 23, concerning the 1952 incident involving the Gakkai Youth Division and Rev. Jimon Ogasawara: "The youth division members met Ogasawara at one of the lodging temples on the head temple grounds and refuted his erroneous doctrine. Then they escorted him to the grave of Makiguchi where he wrote a letter of apology to the Daishonin for distorting the Daishonin's teachings. This is known as the Ogasawara incident."

What does it mean that Ogasawara was "escorted?" The following is a description of what actually happened from "Japan's New Buddhism" by Kiyoaki Murata, p. 96:

"On the eve of April 28, 1952, when Taiseki-ji held a major service to commemorate the founding of the Nichiren sect in 1253, Toda visited the temple with four thousand members of his Youth Division and assaulted Ogasawara. Toda felt justified in doing so to avenge his late teacher and demanded an apology from the octagenarian priest. When Ogasawara refused, the young men, who included Ikeda, later president of the Soka Gakkai, mobbed him and carried him on their shoulders, tagging him with a placard inscribed 'Tanuki Bozu' (Raccoon Monk). Ogasawara was taken to Makiguchi's grave, where he was forced to sign a statement of apology

Recalling this incident in an interview with the author [Murata] in July 1956, Toda admitted hitting the priest 'twice' and said that this was the cause of the extremely unfavorable press his organization then received -- which labeled Soka Gakkai as a 'violent religion.'"

The Living Buddhism article, concealing the violent nature of this incident, goes on to blame the Nichiren Shoshu priests who they claimed were upset, not by the priest's punishment but the fact that lay members were the agents of his punishment. However, it is obvious that they would have had legitimate concerns that several thousand goons had come to the head temple and employed violence during a major ceremony.

"Living Buddhism's" clearly disingenuous account of this incident undermines the credibility of SGI's ongoing series of revisionist history. Even when dealing with a known historical event, the Gakkai presents it in a distorted and dishonest manner, not to mention that beating up an old man is an "act of kindness" according to Daisaku Ikeda." - R. Boyd

My own experience of cleaning the toilets in the SGI centers and standing in the cold at two in the morning guarding a metal plaque of President Toda is "to do the most menial and sometimes disgusting tasks."

Simple Simon Says:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_Says

SGI leader: Hai

SGI member: How high?

SGI leader: No. HAI!

SGI leader: Can you give an experience at the next Area meeting?

SGI member: Ok. How about the time I went to Atlantic City and lost all my money. I had to beg the toll man to let me through the Lincoln tunnel. I chanted to myself and he let me go through. Then I went home and ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and spaghetti, ketchup, and canned peas for two weeks.

SGI leader: Did you learn anything from the experience?

SGI member: Yes, to always leave toll money in the car and stock up on food before I go to Atlantic City. I also thought about what Sensei would do in my situation.

SGI leader: You did?

SGI member: He would call his chauffer to bring him another bag of Zaimu.

SGI leader: You certainly have done a lot of human revolution.

SGI member: Like Zapata?

SGI leader: No. Like Sennichi Yamamoto.

SGI member: Who dat?

SGI leader: That is Sensei's fictionalized name in his book, The Human Revolution.

SGI member: Oh yeah, I forgot. We read about him last year, the year before that, the year before that, and the year before that. There were no battles or anything except with that old priest Ogasawara. Sennichi roughed him up pretty good.

SGI leader: Of course there are no battles except with the Dantos, the Kempon Hokke, and the Nichiren Shu. This is a battle with yourself, a battle to follow Sensei no matter what, like he followed his mentor, President Toda.

SGI member: Like Simon Bolivar says?

SGI leader: More like Simple Simon says: President Ikeda says do this, President Ikeda says do that, President Ikeda says do this, and President Ikeda says do that, and you do it. But if your heart and mind says do this or do that, don't do it.

SGI Member: You mean if President Ikeda says, Nichiren is the True Buddha, and President Ikeda says, only recite the Hoben-pon and Jiga-ge sections of the Lotus Sutra, and President Ikeda says, only believe in the Nichikan Gohonzon, and President Ikeda says, touch your nose, and President Ikeda says touch your left shoulder, you do it. But if you feel like chanting the entire 16th Chapter, or if you feel compelled to revere Shakyamuni as the Eternal Original Buddha, or if your tushy itches, you don't scratch it because President Ikeda didn't say to touch your tushy.

SGI leader: That is overcoming your negativity and your ego. That is human revolution!

SGI member: Now I understand. Sennichi threw that old priest, Ogassawara, into the pond because President Toda said to throw him in. I bet President Ikeda would tell us to throw Rev. Nagasaki of the New York temple into the Hudson river.

SGI leader: That would be too good for him. But first you have to clean President Ikeda's toilet in the President's room.

SGI member: But no one has been up to that room in 12 years.

SGI leader: President Ikeda says to keep his toilet clean because you never know when he might show up.

SGI member: HAI!

Thanks to Bruce Maltz for this invaluable information on Gohonzon and the identity of Nichiren

Bun’ei era (1263-1274), Kenji era (1275-1277) and Koan era (1278-1288). There are about 128 extant gohonzons, or about a dozen per year. The Mandalas were written in various styles and forms. Each mandala can be exactly dated according to the particular style and form that Nichiren used in each particular year. Thus, the gohonzons of Koan 2 (second year of Koan, or 1279) are all similar. This date (Koan 2, or 1279) is the so-called date of the Taisekiji dai-gohonzon, but the Taiskieji Daigohonzon has the earmarks of Koan 3 (1280), and there is a temple near Taisekiji which has an original Nichiren gohonzon, dated Koan 3 (1280). It is assumed that the so-called “dai Gohonzon” was copied from this authentic gohonzon, but the copyist was not aware of the difference in style ( i.e size of kanji, etc.) between 1279 and 1280.

Nichiren’s gohonzons have been catalogued according to the forms and styles of each year. There is the Abbreviated Style, the Quintessential style and the Expanded Style. The abbreviated style consists of the Title (Daimoku), the two Buddhas (Shakyamuni and Taho), the two “spell kings” (Myoo) i.e. Fudo and Aizen, written in Sanskrit characters. The Quintessential Style means that Nichiren added the Four Original Bodhisattvas. The Expanded Style means that the whole of the Ten Realms (Hell, Hunger, animality, anger, human, celestial, Sravaka [Hearer’s] realm, Pratekyabuddha [self-realized buddhas], bodhisattva and Buddha realms) are included. The six lower realms are the Six ways of Rebirth (deluded or unenlightened), and the four upper realms are the Way of the Saints (enlightened). The Hell Realm is exemplified by Devadatta (eventually the Tathagata Tenno), the Hungry ghost Realm by the Ten Rakshasa Women and Kishimojin (demons), the Animal Realm by the Dragon Girl and the Great Dragon King (Naga), the Anger Realm by the Asura Kings (titans), the Human Realm by King Ajatashatru ( son of Bimbasara), the Celestial Realm by the Great Deva (God) Brahma, the Emperor Shakra, the Four Heavenly Kings. The Hearer’s Realm by Maudgalyayana [Mokure], the Pratyekabuddha Realm by Shariputra and Kashyapa, the Bodhisattva realm by Jyogyo, Jogyo, Anryugyo and Muhengyo, representing the Original Bodhisattvas Out of the Earth, and the Buddha Realm by Shakyamuni and Taho.

The gohonzons of the first par of the Bun’ei Period (1263-1274) have “Namu” affixed to the various dieties. The gohonzons of the Koan Period (1278-1288) have “Namu” affixed to the Buddhas Shakyamuni and Taho, the Four Original Bodhisattvas, Shariputra, etc. On some gohonzons of the Bun’ei Period, Nichiren wrote the name of other “Branch Body” Buddhas, on the gohonzons of the Koan Period, he did not. Some scholars have further classified the gohonzons as “zui tai i” (following others intentions, the so called “personal gohonzons” of the Bun’ei and Kenji periods) and “zui ji i” (following Nichiren’s own intentions, during the Koan Period). Other scholars have classified the Bun’ei Period as the “Practice period”, the Kenji era as the “Adjustment Period” and the Koan era as the “Perfection Period”. All these classifications are scholarly interpretations, devised long after Nichiren’s death.

Since all the mandalas are in Nichiren’s own handwriting, all of the Gohonzons are the same in merit and benefit, provided that one believes with the right understanding of Nichiren’s teachings.

On a gohonzon of the 11th year of Bun’ei (1274), Nichiren wrote out the following text:

“Since the extinction of the Great Enlightened World Honored One, there have passed in succession more than 2,220 years. Even among the Three countries of India, Han [China] and Japan, there has not year appeared this Great Object of Worship [Dai Honzon]. Either they have known but have not yet spread it, or they have not known it. Our Compassionate Father, by means of the Buddha Wisdom, has hidden and retained it, leaving it for the Latter Age. At the time of the last 500 years, the Bodhisattva Jogyo comes forth in the world and for the first time spreads and proclaims it.”

On this particular gohonzon, Nichiren has called himself Bodhisattva Jogyo, since it is Nichiren who proclaims and spreads this gohonzon for the first time. In another letter [The Deposition of Yorimoto, STN v.2, p.1358], Nichiren refers to himself as “His Reverence Nichiren Shonin is the Bodhisattva Jogyo, Messenger of the Lord of the Three Worlds, the Father and Mother of all Beings, the Tathagata Shakya.” This is Nichiren’s own description of himself, in his own words. He never refers to himself as a Buddha or the Original Buddha in ANY of his writings. The Eternal Original Buddha is Shakyamuni of the 16th chapter of the Lotus Sutra, according to ALL of Nichiren’s authenticated writings. Only obvious forgeries impute anything else, and the great majority of those forgeries are produced many years after Nichiren’s death.
