Why do the SGI, NS, modern Kempon Hokke, and other so-called "Nichiren" organizations and independents? Answer me that Batman!

Hi Mark,
ReplyDeleteNot entirely related to this post - but wondering what Liturgy/Gongyo book / Gongyo format you are practicing now?
Hi Alan. Presently I am chanting the Daimoku, doing the abbreviated practice of chanting [part of] the 2nd Chapter of the Lotus Sutra and the Jiga-ge, and offering personal prayers. We have not yet put to paper prayers that will be passages of the Lotus Sutra, Gosho, and Nichiju's Fujisho.
ReplyDeleteIs your Gohonzon still the Dharma Gohonzon?
ReplyDeleteanswer: because shoshu, sgi , nichiren shu and the modern kempon did not and do not follow the master sent by the buddha as the leader(nichiren) for the latter day(mappo). study the teachings it explains the peoples karma in the latter day.
ReplyDeletequestion: if one does not believe in the teachings, why chant?
Hi Greg, maybe I didn't phrase my question well.
ReplyDeleteI was curious to know if Mark was still practicing with the same Gohonzon as before the split from Kempon Hokke Shu. Or to put it another way, has he changed his Gohonzon as no longer affiliated with Rev Tsuchiya?
I still chant to the Gohonzon bestowed upon me 18 years ago by Rev. Kubota. It is Nichiren's banner of propagation, not Tsuchiya's. It is the teacher of all Buddhas, gods, and men throughout the Three Existences. It is the cluster of infinite benefit.
ReplyDeleteno problem alan. nothing personal to you. whenever i can i like to try and make people realize that most stopped following nichiren a long time ago. if one stops following nichiren(in the latter day, mappo), they also stop following the buddha shakyamuni of the 16th chapter.
ReplyDeletewishing you the best.
Thank you both for the explanation.
ReplyDeleteSo, (Not trying to entrap anyone!!) would you consider going back to the Kempon Hokke if there were some changes? and what would you consider those changes needed to be? Or is that it, all over and done with for good?
It intrigues me that the somewhat stark differences which have emerged, were not evident before Shinkeis visit?
I am only asking out of curiosity - and fully understand if this is not an appropriate format to answer.
shinkei exposed the falsehood of the modern kempon, although some already had their suspicions. much could be said about this. for it, now, shinkei is hated by many who pretend to practice nichirens buddhism(the lotus sutra). this comes as no surprise to those who know and practice real buddhism and who know the teachings.
ReplyDeletei myself am a nichiren lotus sutra buddhist. i follow and listen to shakyamuni, nichiren and those who listen to and follow truly what they taught. there is only one true school or sangha; it is nichiren and his followers.
the teachings of the kempon are good. however, they do not uphold or practice what nichiren made clear.
my hope is that others will come to a correct understanding and not be tricked like they were by shoshu.sgi the shu and the kempom.
I agree with you Greg. Frankly, I wanted to believe that Tsuchiya would be the reformer of the sect. Rather, he is the problem, not the solution. Just as Nikkyo was to become a reformer of the sect despite his excommunication, so too will we.
ReplyDeleteWe are the sect, Alan.
ReplyDeletenichiren and HIS followers.
ReplyDeletein terms of buddhism - end of story.
