Thanking the medicine?
Who do we thank when we are cured of a serious illness? Do we thank the medicine? Of course not. We thank the physician. In like manner, when we chant the Daimoku, we thank Shakyamuni Buddha of the Juryo Chapter of the Lotus Sutra, the great physician who prescribed the medicine and his envoy Nichiren Daishonin who dispensed the medicine.
