Many thanks for reawakening this discussion, but can you call it points for discussion, especially as it's now MORE THAN TWO YEARS since we started the exchange and I am STILL WAITING for your responses to my comments on parts 5 to 13 of your article on the sgi being a destructive cult?.
ReplyDeleteYou first brought these 13 reasons to my attention when you posted on my own SGI cult thread (http://nichirenbuddhist.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/cult-vs-sgi.html) and I sent you my rebuttal to ALL of these 13 points within a few days.
Over the next few days you started to respond to each of these but only got as far as point 4 before declaring that you had won the debate, due to my lack of response.
I think the problem was that out of courtesy for your sincere efforts to reply to my rebuttal, I wanted to give you the time to reply to each point first, rather than us getting tied up in back and forth exchanges over one or two issues, but in the end you interpreted a lack of response as proof of your victory.
Since then I have replied to your posts and when I posted our discussion on my blog around May 2012, you replied (as Buku) on 23 June 2012
" Since you have posted your comments to my short Esssay, the Soka Gakkai is a Destructive Cult by Definition, Alan, I will continue with points 5-13. I believed that when you failed to reply to my rebuttals of your points 1-4 that the matter was closed. Apparently not."
So it's now TWO YEARS LATER but still no response to my initial comments on parts 5 to 13 of your article. According to your logic should I be declaring this lack of response as a victory to me?
P.S. I've just been reading through my reply to your initial 13 points which I posted on my blog and it looks like you do reply briefly to point 5 ( http://nichirenbuddhist.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/cult-vs-sgi-part-3.html)
ReplyDeletePoint 5 states "Destructive cults lead their members to believe they are somehow superior to all other humans on the earth."
I don't believe the SGI does believe they are "superior to all other humans on the earth" but as Nichiren Buddhists we do have an understanding of the Mystic Law of Cause and Effect that gives us a deeper awareness of the causes we are making in out lives.
On the other hand, you commented on this post on 23 June 2012 10:28 by saying "Kempon Hokke is certainly superior". Now, I don't know about you, but according to point 5 of YOUR list, this sounds like a cult to me.
