Ebola commentary

As I wrote on 08/01/2014, the only way to stop the Ebola epidemic, short of a vaccine, is quarantine and community containment. Unfortunately, it will take more than a hundred thousand troops, to quarantine an area of one hundred and sixty thousand square miles or secure a border of ~ 1300 miles. The only thing that 3000 American troops may succeed in doing in Liberia is spreading Ebola throughout Europe [where they are stationed] and the United States should they become infected and travel during the incubation period.

  1. The 160,000 square miles and ~ 1300 mile border is the combined total of Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea.
