SGI cult activities

Protest
HI everyone! I was just involved in a protest of Nikken, the high priest who excommunicated SGI from the temple. He was staying in a hotel in Northern Virginia and a bunch of us YD got together at 6am and held up some signs in japanese (i dont know exactly what they said, im sure it will be in the WT) and booed him as he was on his way to the airport and Brazil. There was a small bus filled with his people and they were taking pictures of us. It was really great. i have never done any protesting before, but, it felt really good.
Hope everyone is having a splendid day!!

i think besides what you've done, we should continue to chant that the pure flow of the law will not be polluted by not only nikken, but all those who slander the law.

The pure flow of the law is absolute! It can't be polluted. If anything the results of Nikken's or anyone elses actions are proof of the law. ;-)

Wouldn't booing someone be slandering the law? I understand that Nikken is in the world of hell right now, and his ugly nature has hurt people on grand scale, but shouldn't we be chanting for his inherent Buddha-nature to come out? Shouldn't we be making positive causes rather than booing?

I have to agree with durga. booing doesn't seem terribly compassionate to me. I know Nikken isn't very nice but 2 wrongs don't make a right, they make 2 wrongs.

well, we just were making a lot of noise like, some were cheering and some were booing. The people he had with him didnt seem very disturbed by it. They were smiling and taking our pictures. The leaders there said to do whatever seemed natural. I think this was a positive cause, because president Ikeda is always saying to stand up for justice and to make a stand. To not point out what someone else is doing wrong, especially when they are hurting others, i have understood that is a bad cause too. I did feel wierd when i first heard about it, but, i thought, what would President Ikeda do if he were here. We are like his representatives. So, when we were actually doing it i really felt it was right. The temple issue has been a hard one to grasp for me, but, i feel very sad that SGI members were taken advantage of by this man. Anyway, im sorry i posted this, i should have just waited for it to be reported by the World Tribune. I didnt want to start anything or possibly explain things wrong and make confusion or bad feelings. I will leave this post up for the rest of the day in case anyone wants to say any thing and then i will delete it.

Please don't delete the post. I think it's a very important dialog to have. I struggle with these same issues - when to stand up for myself and my own beliefs by speaking out and when to listen without speaking. And whether those two acts necessarily have to be separate.

I'm taking a class right now where we're talking about some of these issues - providing health care to people who may believe very very different things than what you believe. Things that are so different that you find them painful. I'm stuggling with how to treat all people with compassion and respect even when I don't really respect what they are saying. This is a difficult and important and very human stuggle. And very important in light of what is happening in the world.

I dunno if you should delete it. It makes for some interesting discussion and that's how we learn. :o)

I didn't mean for you to delete your thoughts, it really is something that should be discussed more. This temple issue, this Nikken issue is huge and deserves more in-depth attention and study (at least in my opinion). It's the only thing in our organization that I feel even comes close to being "controversial." Thus, different people have differing opinions. I really appreciate you putting your thoughts out here for us to see. ^_^

I really agree with you, so I'd like to share with you this Ikeda Sensei's quote.

--TO MY FRIENDS--
Let's counter every word
with one hundred.
Let's wage a struggle
of faith to
eradicate injustice at the root.
Everything is for the
future's sake.

Above is an unofficial translation of President Ikeda's "To My Friends" published in the Seikyo Shimbun.

I believe that in this matter the important and valuable thing is not only chanting, but also action towards his retire.

Thank you! I re-wrote the post below, because I misquoted the Gosho. The correct word is, "mercy", not, "compassion". Serves me right for writing from memory.

No. Booing is not a bad cause.

Let me explain why:

Suppose you awoke to find someone had broken into your house and was stealing your things and endangering your safety. What would you do?

Would you sit down and chant for his Buddha-nature to come out?

Of course not! You would chant furiously and call the cops! If before they came he started marching down the street carrying your stereo, you would run after him screaming.

But...once the cops had come and taken him to jail, you would go into your house and chant for him. Of course you would. Once your things and your family was safe, you would chant and chant for him.

Nikken is no different except what he has attempted to steal means more than a stereo. Once he is nolonger capable of attacking the members, we will all send him Daimoku. First, we have to get him out of our house.

We did not start this problem. We did not excommunicate the temple members or leaders, we did not accuse them of things they did not do, we have not abandoned the NST members as fellow human beings. But, we have a right to be angry and we have a right to protest. I'm proud of those who did.

There is another reason that it was not slander. It says in the Gosho that, "if you see someone slandering the law but lack the mercy to correct him, you are in fact his enemy." What Nikken is doing to himself is worst than what he is doing to anyone else. If we do not let him know, we are in fact a worst enemy than one who would be silent and turn our heads away.

Hum...how many temple members are there? They are much miserable and comfortable here, because Nikken always demand a lot of funds to them. It's really crazy!
