How wrong she is

Nancy Thomsen SGI Chapter Leader over on Fraught With Peril doesn't think Nichiren Buddhism will survive:

"I don’t think Nichiren Buddhism will survive. Very few people on this planet know anything of Nichiren. Why are the Nichiren sects declining in membership? My daughter was listening to a song with the lyric “It’s always darkest before the dawn,” but it should have been “Winter never fails to turn to Spring.” The song was about not giving up. Then I thought about the lame SGI songs we have. And then… no one writes songs about Nichiren. Do we not have passion? Do we not care enough? Wouldn’t songs or good poetry or a great novel be a way to introduce people to Nichiren?
Question — Why don’t we write songs or poetry about Nichiren Buddhism?"
No Nancy. Ikedaism is doomed. The Lotus Sutra Buddhism of Nichiren will survive for ten thousand years and more.

  2. Ikeda's on a trajectory of steep decline - he can no longer be seen in public. Given his behavior from the early 1990s, it's likely he has dementia and it has progressed to the point that he would be an embarrassment. Imagine - the Great Man, who, according to his vanity press Middleway Press, is "the world's foremost authority on Nichiren Buddhism and a spiritual leader for millions worldwide" and "one of today's most respected Buddhist teachers", drooling, mumbling (or even shouting) profanity, using vulgar slang, and behaving like a baboon. No, there's a good reason that his handlers have kept him under wraps - he will not make any further public appearances. Last November, when the Soka Gakkai opened up some major huge new building in Tokyo, Ikeda was not there for the grand opening ceremonies. Instead, he was brought in for a private gongyo recitation with a half-dozen top-level SG leaders, with a still picture (from a bit of a distance) published to record the "great event". I wonder if his palsy has gotten worse, with the left side of his face now drooping down onto his shoulder or something.
