Nichiren cites the patriarchs of Japanese Tendai as examples of evil patriarchs and I cite Nichikan, Nikken, Nichinyo, Makiguchi, Toda and Ikeda as examples of evil patriarchs. Jikaku Daishi (the third patriarch of Tendai in Japan), for example, became a disciple of Kobo Daishi and turned Japanese Tendai into a branch of Shingon. Likewise, Nichikan and Toda turned the Nichiren faith into a branch of Shingon and Nikken and Ikeda ran with it.
