The many ways to free oneself from the Nichikan Gohonzon: Send it back via mail; Return it personally; Burn it while chanting the Daimoku and the Jiga-ge; or, if you no longer chant, you can return it to a priest or member of another Nichiren sect. Some more radical Nichiren practitioners would argue that the Nichikan Gohonzon, since it isn't a valid Lotus Sutra object of devotion, can be disposed of any way you like, including throwing it in the trash. I think personally, though it isn't a valid Gohonzon, without clearly recognizing the difference between a valid Nichiren Gohonzon and the Nichikan Gohonzon, one should, as you say, "gracefully" remove it from your life.

What is your opinion on this above statement Mark, do you think that Nichiren agrees, is there any supporting scripture for such a statement?
Senshu Murano too makes the same argument. However, Nichiren's ideas developed over time to include all Ten Worlds on Gohonzon and certainly, he never inscribed the Daimoku with the intent to discard Shakyamuni Buddha as did Nichikan. If the source is polluted so too will be the stream. Far better to have a copy of a Nichiren inscribed Daimoku only Gohonzon than a Seven, Eight, or Ten World Gohonzon of Nichikan.

DeleteMy opinion, the Ten World Gohonzon is the pinnacle of Nichiren's Enlightenment. I would have no problem with a Nichiren Shoshu Gohonzon if it were a copy of a Nichiren inscribed Gohonzon.

DeleteSince the Nichikan Gohonzon is the banner of propagation of the perverse and slanderous Soka Gakkai. it contains within it all their karmic impediments. It is why SGI members are greedy, angry, and stupid.

Once you free yourself from the Nichikan Gohonzon, as long as you continue to chant Namu Myoho renge kyo, all your wishes will be fulfilled as a cool clear pond satisfies the thirsty.
