“If we truly wish to reach this point, we must read President Ikeda’s guidance repeatedly. We must get to the point where we can’t distinguish between our own speech and action and what we would do if we were the SGI President. It’s incorrect for us to put our opinions about how to behave over what we believe President Ikeda would do. It’s *even worse* to act *without thinking* about *what President Ikeda would do*. This is not acting as a disciple.” -- An SGI Vice President
Eventually, all SGI members, to remain in good standing, must make this teaching their own.
ReplyDeleteThey might counter, the smiling face of an SGI member, is the real reality of the SGI. I would counter, that this is no different than the Zen teaching of the twirling of a flower to which Nichiren had the greatest contempt. Nichiren was a scriptural Buddhist. He underwent and overcame one obstacle after another and one persecution after another for the sake of the Law with the most serious countenance imaginable. The reality of his life is what inspired millions of others, not his smile. A smile is merely one of the Ten Factors of the World of Rapture or a politician's ruse.
