Apparently, the SGI embraced the Islamic doctrine of Taqiyya

The principle that it is permissible for an SGI member to lie in order to protect SGI and SGI's mentor and their reputation from harm and to do so as part of conversion activities with both "believers" and nonbelievers alike.
