Conclusion...repaying debt of gratitude to the mentor is the prime point of the six chapters of the Lotus Sutra, chapters 23 - 28 (particularly Chapter 23 the Medicine King Chapter) according to SGI
Nichiren's teaching on repaying debts of gratitude is found in his major writing, On Repaying Debts of Gratitude. Ironically, he wrote this and taught that acting contrary to the mistaken master (mentor), in his case, the slanderer Dozen-bo, is the best way we can repay our debt of gratitude.
Likewise, the Soka Gakkai members can best repay their gratitude to the their slanderous mentor by practicing with the same faith as Nichiren and with great reverence for Shakyamuni Buddha.
