After 37 years, thanks to cancer, I am no longer in the SGI cult

In response how to the question, how can I leave the Soka Gakkai?

"Get sick. I’m not kidding. I am (was) third generation, after 37 years in the organization, growing up with all these people, I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer (long story but the mass was removed and I’m “ok”now) and the members started dropping like flies. Friends that I’ve known since we were tiny kids, just ghosted me. Not one member came to see me in the hospital for the multiple surgeries I had. No help offered afterwards. The recovery from having parts of your organs removed is fucking brutal. Then I caught an infection in the hospital which felt like my insides were on fire for nine months. Not. A. Word.

I quit shortly after. I know I always say fuck cancer but damn it got me out of this religion so cheers cancer
