Response to a Nichiren Shu believer.

Hello. Mark.
Nichiren Shonin Written Mandala Gohonzon below are the written Kishi monjin sitting as well. Nichiren Chant and practice all 28 chapters from it. But instead any sect will say they are the truth from it. Lets forget it . In any sect have the same results the same Chanting the same daimoku . Shu are the larger group here in Japan in.Nichiren sect. We respect all other Nichiren Sects (other religion ) too. Here in Japan Shu are the most peacefull Nichiren sect saw ever. SHU priets and lay believers dont harm and talk bad to any Nichiren sects ever. (Like Shoshu Soka and Sgi do). Nichiren Shonin are free from chanting but we must just follow the law not person. Now Here is the answer:

What is Buddishm? What is Nichiren Shu? What is Nichiren Shonin's teachings about? If you ask any number of people these questions you will get a variety of answers, the accuracy of which will vary widely. It is an attempt to provide reliable answers to these questions. Many people throughout the world have heard of Buddhism, Though their perceptions of this religion are often colored by misconceptions. Buddishm is very differend from the religions of the west. It was founded by a man called the Buddha over two thounsend years or more ago in India. Shortly ,we will take a look at the Buddha's life and his teachings but for the moment, let's define what Buddhism is in order to clear up some commen misperceptions. Buddishm can be confusing because to some people it seems like a religion to others it seems like a philosophy, and to others it seems like an ancient tradition of psychology. Buddishm, however cannot be reduced to any of these categories. At its heart, buddishm is a word view based upon the awakening of the Buddha, and a way of life that leads to and consistent with an awakened world view. This "awakening" refers to an awakening from the sleep of delusion and self-centerdness. This is the enlightenment that freed the Buddha from suffering and enabled him to reach out compassionately to others so that they could share his freedom. The Buddha also described and demonstrated the perfect wisdom and great compassion of one who had awakened to the true nature of reality. Buddishm does not focus on woreshipping or appeasing some superhuman being whose powers and understanding are forever beyond our reach. Neither is Buddishm idolatry: Buddhist do not woreship arcane symbols, statues or a group of deities. It is true that buddhist believe in an ultimate reality, sometimes called the Buddha-nature, that enables us to attain awakening but this should not be confused with the historical person called the Buddha. The historical Buddha is revered as the one who taught the way but he does not transcend our ability to emulate him. Likewise, the Buddha-nature is not a person to woreship, but is the fertile ground from which we can bring out our own buddha-like qualities by practicing the Buddha's teachings. Unlike many religions of the west the ultimate reality does not save us from high.(god and buddha wont give you a state of mind) but instead invites us to realize it as our own true nature. 🙍🤗

Response:

Having chanted Namu Myoho renge kyo more than 30,000,000 times, you are preaching to the choir. The Buddha and Nichiren spent their entire lives correcting wrong thought. This too is an aspect of Nichiren Lotus Sutra Buddhism. Nichiren did not limit setting right the wrong thought of the authorities and the mistaken understanding of the priests of the various sects but also his own disciples. Sammibo and Ota Jomyo come to mind. Regarding Sammibo, Nichiren lamented that he didn't more forcibly correct him. Likewise our compassion to correct the mistaken beliefs of the SGI and the Nichiren Shoshu, for example..

  4. i have insurance and several people who already wanted to donate a kidney. As I mentioned before, I am not a candidate for transplant becuase of calcium deposits in my iliac arteries (atherosclerosis). My life is beautiful and as I also mentioned, dialysis is nothing more than an inconvenience.

One last thing, thanks for the offer. I have never taken a dime for my Buddhist activities, primarily because laymen are NOT allowed to accept alms, unlike the evil SGI.

  5. Next week I am entering an 8-ball pool tournement on Wednesday. My stamina, concentration, focus, and steadiness will help me place in this tournement at the VFW. Making friends there, I hope to introduce several people to Namu Myoho renge kyo.

  6. you could never match the number of people introduced to the Myoho renge kyo by the SGI.

  7. True, they who chant Myoho renge kyo with their mouths and Daisaku Ikeda in their hearts. Maybe you should go to SGI meetings and sing a few bars of Forever Sensei. Maybe you want to be like Shinichi Yamamoto. They vilified countless Bodhisattvas of the Earth, denigrating their Gohonzons and their persons. Nichiren states, we have found Namu Myohob renge kyo, not because of others, be they Shu, Shoshu, or Rogow but because of auspicious causation. The Lotus Sutra makes no distinction betwee those with one quintillion believers and solitary Bodhisattvas. Meanwhile, it is thanks to Nichiren that 35,000,000 chant the Daimoku and that is who I follow.

  8. individual’s own unique karma is a primary consideration regarding encountering the Mystic Law and continuing to chant it. I encountered the daimoku from a SGI member, who also has faith in the Law and does not denigrate the org or it’s members. engaging those we know around negative aspects of sectarian affiliation in a respectful manner, we share the real experience of indecent practice. following Nichiren while aware of the differences in this country , respecting others is key. surely, any educated person realizes an org is comprised of individuals and only a deluded person would broadly generalize to vilify them all! hey mark, did you ever sing forever sense ? I bet you did —- we learn as we grow in faith— trust the Law.

  9. who specifically is they? and how do you know what lies in the heart of another? this rhetoric is unbecoming for one who claims to believe in the Lotus Sutra, imo. yeah, people hear about and chant according to their own karma. will they continue? also up to their own karma...I've been to sgi meetings and temple services, tho not for me, I would not denigrate other's on their own path, gotta wonder why some are bent on weaponizing the beautiful, perfect teaching against others - heavy karma, that.

  10. I am amzed that I am the center of such criticisms when SGI and Nichiren Shoshu with millions of members, for example, have been slandering believers with such teachings as the following for 80+ if not hundreds of years (Nichiren Shoshu). I will refresh your memories:

"Members of the Minobu school of the Nichiren sect chant daimoku. They have the Gosho Their recitation of the sutra also includes the Hoben and Juryo chapters. And, in the Shoshinkai, which consists of ex-priests of Nichiren Shoshu , and the portions of the sutra they recite and the daimoku that they chant are identical to the practice we observe. Though their religion may seem the same as ours, they lack the single, unbroken heritage of the law received directly from Nichiren Daishonin. If one's faith is not based on this line of inheritance, it is worthless to embrace any Gohonzon, for no benefit will be forthcoming. That is to say, "Without the lifeblood of faith, it would be useless to embrace the Lotus Sutra." " Daisaku Ikeda, Buddhism in Action, vol 3, p 254

"Thus, Nichiren Daishonin teaches us to treat the SGI members who work for Kosenrufu with greater respect than anyone else, and we must seat them high above esteemed priests." Daisaku Ikeda, World Tribune, March 14, 1994

"The faith of "not begruging one's life," life based on the Gohonzon ...such faith exists only in the Soka Gakkai. Only the Soka Gakkai possesses "action" aimed toward the goal of kosen-rufu, and correct "guidance" leading to happiness." Daisaku Ikeda, World Tribune, Jan. 17, 1994

"The Lotus Sutra which is the long-cherished wish of Buddha Shakamuni is no longer valid in this era, not in the least." (page93, The Bible of Shakubuku or Manual of Forced Conversion)

"The family which believes in the so-called Nichiren-shu will have children who have deformities, mental retardation or madness." (page321, The Bible of Shakubuku)

And their aberrant doctrines and the Nichiren Shu doctrines? on every page of their Daibyakarenge we see the superiority of the Shsohu and I have dozens of SGI teachings on their superiority. I have not one follower because I point every last person to the Eternal Buddha (Lotus Sutra) and Nichiren.

  11. the Buddha enters the minds of those who chant myoho renge kyo- rather than concerns oneself with matters one cannot know, i.e., the hearts of others, why not chant with total conviction that ALL who chant the daimoku will as a matter of course (specific to them), attain perfect enlightenment. I mean, that is what Nichiren claimed. Right?

    ReplyDelete
  12. un-huh...please don't amplify your grievances as though any of them is more powerful than the essential phrase: myo ho ren ge kyo.
and stop- just stop tooting your own horn.
I realize you will probably just take offense--- but none is intended-- the power and benefit of "upholding/chanting" myoho renge kyo could not even be fully described by the Buddha--- yet, you just keep on insisting that chanting daimoku "is not enough"? that is a direct contradiction of the Buddha's golden words.
Look, each person will encounter what they need, according to their karma and "faith/practice"...when you rail against others chanting you really are disregarding the most amazing and uniquely superior aspect of Nichiren's teaching--- it is accessible to all--- and the benefit one attains is the same as anyone else's-- though you may not be able to perceive the equality or appreciate the unique differences between all people- the Buddha assured us both are true.

  13. You are another one who takes Nichiren like a Chinese Buffet, I'll take the beef and broccoli but not the salt and pepper shrimp. What i mean is, even Nichiren had disciples who chanted Namu Myoho renge kyo but refused to accept all his teachings, particularly his teachings on the forceful practices. They also taught doctrines contrary to his, Ota Jomyo comes to mind. Today it is even worse because Nichiren isn't here to correct them except through his authentic writings. Nichiren said one is complicit with slander if one doesn't speak up. He stated on dozens of occassions it is great slander to abandon Shakyamuni Buddha. If you chant while abandoning Shakyamuni buddha, sure you will attain Buddhahood but you will fall into the Lower Worlds for who knows how long. Similarly for lying about the teachings and incorporating Zen (pariarchal transmission) and Shingon principles (Yuiga Yoga or Forever sensei) into the Lotus Sutra Buddhism of Nichiren. By addressing these "disciples" failings as a group of 10,000,000 + and as single individuals, one avoids being complicit with their slander. It is easy to pat these slanderers on the back, "as long as you chant Namu Myoho renge kyo, it's ok to abandon Shakyamuni Buddha". It's hard to confront them day after day for their transgressions. Apparently, you have chosen the easy way.

  14. I embrace the essential teaching entrusted to Nichiren by Shakyamuni Buddha. Your wild pronouncements and derogatory pronouncements bear scrutiny. Judging and condemning is your take on what you’ve read and have adopted as “ forceful practices”. Who knows where you got the notion that you are some great arbiter on “ the hearts and minds of other believers”? This is just another harangue — too convoluted to detangle. I choose to ignore your baseless accusations l

  15. For Nichiren's teachings: only treatises extant in his own hand are reliable doctrinal teachings. Read and study NOPPA Kanjin Honzon-sho. There is not a single "teaching" that supports "attacking and defaming those who chant the daimoku". There is no "directive" to weaponize Nichiren's teachings to degrade or mock people with differing beliefs. There is , likewise, you will find substantial references to there being no need for temples, lay organizations, schools and preachy "leaders". For those who wish to practice Nichiren's Buddhism in accordance with Nichiren's doctrines, this Major Writing is all you would need to study.

  16. Hope you have repented for defaming others who chant the Daimoku, Rev. Tsuchiya and those you emailed with their personal information stating you know where they live. There are Five Major works. The Opening of the Eyes teach:

In the ninth volume of the Nirvana Sutra we read: “Good man, there are icchantikas, or persons of incorrigible disbelief. They pretend to be arhats, living in deserted places and speaking slanderously of the correct and equal sutras of the great vehicle. When ordinary people see them, they all suppose that they are true arhats and speak of them as great bodhisattvas.” It also says: “At that time, this sutra will be widely propagated throughout Jambudvīpa. In that age there will be evil monks who will steal this sutra and divide it into p.271many parts, losing the color, scent, and flavor of the correct teaching that it contains. THESE EVIL MEN WILL READ AND RECITE THE SUTRA, but they will ignore and put aside the profound and vital principles that the Thus Come One has expounded in it and replace them with ornate rhetoric and meaningless talk. They will tear off the first part of the sutra and stick it on at the end, tear off the end and put it at the beginning, put the end and the beginning in the middle and the middle at the beginning or the end. You must understand that these evil monks are the companions of the devil.”

    1. I don't know Rev. Tsuchiya, or anything about your very weird assertion, but, I think references to "meaningless talk" could very well be applied to what you are doing here, sir.

  17. OK. I will disavow the following because it is from Converstations between a Sage and Unenlightened Man because it is a pious forgery: "The essential thing the Buddhas needed in order to attain the true way or enlightenment is nothing other than the five characters of Myoho-renge-kyo."

If what the pious or even the nont pious forgery teaches that is in accord with the Five Major Writings and complete authentic canon of Nichiren, it can be accepted. Do you reject the above because Conversations is a forgery?
