Greg Romero rightfully admonishes the Soka Gakkai

FOR THE FOOLISH AND RECALCITRANT FAKE BUDDHIST = SGI/NST/KENNICOTT:

"BECAUSE BUDDHISM HAS GRADUALLY BEEN TURNED UPSIDE DOWN, THE SECULAR WORLD HAS BEEN PLUNGED INTO CORRUPTION AND CHAOS. BUDDHISM IS LIKE THE BODY, AND SOCIETY LIKE THE SHADOW. WHEN THE BODY BENDS, SO DOES THE SHADOW. HOW FORTUNATE THAT ALL OF MY DISCIPLES WHO FOLLOW THE BUDDHA'S TRUE INTENTION WILL NATURALLY FLOW INTO THE OCEAN OF COMPREHESIVE WISDOM!" WND 1039

  1. Excerpt from "The Pure and Far-reaching Voice"

The wish-granting jewels are the relics of Shakyamuni Buddha. The dragon kings received them and carried them on their heads, and Taishaku held them in his hand and caused treasures to rain down. The reason why the body and bones of the Buddha can become wish-granting jewels is because the great precept he observed over a period of innumerable kalpas imbued his body with its fragrance and permeated his bones, so that they became jewels capable of saving all beings.

People say that a dog's fangs will dissolve when they come in contact with the bones of a tiger, or that a fish's bones will melt in the breath of a cormorant. Or they say that if one uses the sinews of a lion to make strings for a koto and plucks them, then strings made from the sinews of other animals will automatically snap, even though no one cuts them. The Buddha's preaching of the Law is called the lion's roar, and the Lotus Sutra is the foremost roar of the lion.

A Buddha has thirty-two features. Each of these features is adorned with a hundred blessings that he has acquired. The protuberant knot of flesh on the crown of his head, the tuft of white hair between his eyebrows and the other features are like fruit, while the practices that the Buddha has carried out in the past are like flowers that produce so many blessings; in this way, the thirty-two features come to appear in the body of the Buddha.

  2. One feature of the Buddha is the unseen crown of his head. Shakyamuni Buddha's body was sixteen feet in height, but a Brahman known as the Bamboo Staff was unable to measure it. When he attempted to see the top of Shakyamuni's head he was unable to do so. Bodhisattva Oji likewise was unable to see the top of the Buddha's head, and so was the deity Daibonten. If one inquires as to the reason, he will find that in the past the Buddha bowed his head to the ground in order to pay reverence to his parents, his teacher and his sovereign, and he acquired this feature as a result.

The foremost among the Buddha's thirty-two features is his pure and far-reaching voice. Lesser kings, great kings, and wheel-turning kings all possess this feature in some degree. Therefore, a single word from one of these kings is able to destroy the kingdom or to insure order within it. The edicts handed down by rulers represent a type of pure and far-reaching voice. Ten thousand words spoken by ten thousand ordinary subjects cannot equal one word spoken by a king. The works known as the Three Records and the Five Cannons represent the words of lesser kings.

That which brings order to this small kingdom of Japan, which enables the deity Daibonten to command the inhabitants of the threefold world, and which enables the Buddha to command Daibonten, Taishaku and the other deities, is none other than this pure and far-reaching voice. The Buddha's utterances have become the works that compose the body of sutras and bring benefit to all living beings. And among the sutras, the Lotus Sutra is a manifestation is writing of Shakyamuni Buddha's intent; it is his voice set down in written words. Thus the Buddha's mind is embodied in these written words. To illustrate, it is like seeds that sprout, grow into plants and produce rice. Though the form of the rice changes, its essence remains the same.

Shakyamuni Buddha and the written words of the Lotus Sutra are two different things, but their heart is one. Therefore, when you cast your eyes upon the words of the Lotus Sutra, you should consider that you are beholding the living body of the Buddha Shakyamuni.

Shakyamuni Buddha is already aware that you have sent offerings all the way here to the province of Sado. It was in truth a most loyal and devoted thing for you to do.

    With my deep respect,
    Nichiren

The ninth year of Bun'ei (1272)

One must fight to prove that the Daimoku Alone is the Pure and Far-reaching voice of the Daimoku recited by any human, despite their previous errors and slanders of each other, will snap the "koto" strings of slander, without any discrimination.

In this way, the deep bonds of True Buddhism going back to time without beginning, can destroy the schismatic minds.

  3. So SGI is ok? Asserting an intermediary is necessary when the daimoku is all that is necessary is a slander of the daimoku, is it not.

  4. The Jiyu chapter explains it in numbers. The lone Bodhisattvas counting the Buddha fields of others would be a shallow understanding, disregarding the unity and power of the Daimoku.

Erroneous ideas do not cancel the power of Daimoku, but a slanderous heart can delay it. Schisms between believers comes from honga-myo--attachment and personal grudges over trivial resentments delays shakubuku.

  5. Very strong faith in the daimoku is necessary to quickly attain Buddhahood. Belief in an intermediary attenuates the faith in the daimoku of the SGI believer thus delaying the effect of Buddhahood. I wouldn't call correcting wrong thought schismatic but rather uniting. I have long left personal grudges behind. Truth in the teachings is all that matters.

  6. It's not whether you can convince anyone. It is whether you can stir them to faith. Ultimately Shakubuku is geshu. Nichiren succeeded in planting the seed. The rest is even harder to do. Serving the priest would mean doing as they would want you to do if they were living Buddhas. One sees the other's Buddha self inside them. Schisms are a cardinal sin, but even if you did such things as to break unity, With Zange one can erase those causes, just like Daibadatta was able to.

Challenging a Great injustice can only succeed if one can truly surrender their own falsity.

    Faith and practice is primary

  7. I respect your opinion but it is NOT Nichiren's teachings:

"As to the causes that condemn one to this hell, it may be said that those who commit any of the five cardinal sins will fall into this hell. The five cardinal sins are killing one’s father, killing one’s mother, killing an arhat, causing a Buddha to shed blood, and causing disharmony among the members of the Buddhist Order. In our present age, however, since there is no Buddha now living, it is impossible to cause a Buddha to shed blood. Likewise, since there is no Buddhist Order, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE to cause disharmony among its members."

He goes on to say... (Ibid)

"Thus the only offenses possible are those of killing one’s father or killing one’s mother. And since the laws of the sovereign are so strict in their prohibition of the killing of a parent, it is rare to find anyone who commits such an offense. Hence in our present age, one would expect that very few people would fall into the Avīchi hell."

"However, there are offenses that are similar in gravity to the five cardinal sins. There are many persons who burn the wooden or painted images of Buddhas or Buddhist halls and pagodas, who appropriate the lands donated to such Buddhist images, who hack down or burn the stupas, or who kill wise men. Such persons will fall into the sixteen separate places that are attached to the Avīchi hell. Thus we may be certain that many of those living in the world today will fall into these sixteen separate places, and those who slander the Law will also fall into this hell."

He is explicit. "Disrupting the Buddhist Order is not possible in this age", at least according to Nichiren.

The point of this Gosho, is to focus on the offenses that will cause one to fall into Avici Hell, that of slandering the True Law Dharma. It's all about faith.

So disrupting the mind of faith, leading believers down an erroneous path away from Gohonzon and a belief in the power of faith in the Daimoku alone as the only way to attain Buddhahood, is a grave offense. Disrupting the Buddhist Order per se, is not, especially since Nichiren states that this offense is impossible in the Latter Day.

SGI and Nichiren Shoshu lead people away from the great power of faith in the Daimoku and Gohonzon alone by teaching the importance of an intermediary.

  8. Read me again. It is not your discriminating mind that gives you true awakening. It is not found in words. Yes, it is Nichiren's teaching. Thinking otherwise, is denying his enlightenment and resorting to mental interpretations. That's a great weight of those thoughts, just let them go. Have faith only. See Buddha within everyone, no matter how crazy.

    Let it go.

  9. Not if they are going to destroy the teachings with unfounded opinions.
