The gentle pliant SGI path to unity

"One after another, these thankless traitors who had appeared among the Daishonin's followers met untimely deaths -- several of them being thrown from their horses. Daishonin declares that their fate constitutes "punishment for their treachery against the Lotus Sutra," and he identifies that punishment as"conspicuous and individual" ("On Persecution Befalling the Sage," WND,997). As many of you may know, those who betrayed their faith and forgot their debt of gratitude by turning on the Soka Gakkai -- an organization acting in complete accord with the Buddha's intent and decree -- are *all* meeting the most pitiful, wretched ends. -- Daisaku Ikeda Justice Chronicle March 9, 2001 No. 75

"What happen to those daimoku and refuting we had done in the past decade for Nikken Sect to demise? 12 million members chanting that kind of daimoku could easily wipe out the entire Mt. Fuji not to speak of Nikken Sect. Must admit, had done my part in that kind of chanting in the past. Infact, I chanted for Nikken demise not the sect. Now I wonder, if I am laying the right cause. Oh well! what's done cannot be undone" -- Shermaine, follower of Ikeda

"This devilish function is itself the one evil, the fundamental evil. In the modern age, the slanderous actions of Nichiren Shoshu are a case in point. "The Daishonin declares that if this one evil is simply ignored, the calamities of internal strife and foreign invasion are bound to occur. In other words, this one evil will ultimately drag the country down the path of war, which causes the greatest suffering to the people. For this reason, the Daishonin strictly admonishes that this one evil must be eliminated." -- Daisaku Ikeda, May 22 2002

"President Ikeda called the Nichiren Shoshu priesthood `devils.' He didn't mince words. He knew and was responsible for what he said, and who would take his words for what they were worth." -- Dan Defensor, SGI leader

"Chanting for the destruction of the NST as we know it is on a deepest level, the greatest good. It has nothing to do with the misfortune of the members. This movement is not to destroy the Nichiren Shoshu priesthood or the members of it. It is simply to destroy the King Devil living through the NST." -- Makoto Otsuka, SGI member

"In the final analysis, the essential nature and function of High Priest Nikken is none other than what Buddhism terms the devil king of the sixth heaven, the function that obstructs the flow of kosen-rufu. It is vitally important for each SGI member to develop the ability to discern  the influence that currently comes from the Nichiren Shoshu priesthood. The spirit to protect people from this influence should be the basis of all our efforts to promote every aspect of kosen-rufu. In other words, this is the time that we should indeed ponder the true meaning of, and put into action, the passage "Rather than offering up ten thousand prayers for remedy, it would be better simply to  ***outlaw this one evil***"  (WND, 15). -- Ikeda cult Justice Chronicle # 164

"Yes, some members have mentioned using the campaign to close temples. I PERSONALLY support that idea." -- Kathy Ruby

"A lot of the "Temple Issue" has resulted in foolhardy and embarrassing displays of bombast and rhetoric, or incited crazy or demented people (in Japan mostly) to take actions ranging from harassing people seeking to attend a funeral to setting fires. From altering photos to talking about "crushing Nikken". -- Chris Holte

"The daimoku campaign to close the temples in the US is NOT a freedom of religion issue" "I'll chant for the temples to close and for the sad people like your self to find wisdom to cure your blindness."-- Joe Stevens SGI member

"Recognizing the High Priest is the Devil of the Sixth heaven. means that the world of heaven is being used to lull us into complacency and acceptance. The reason the Devil resides in the sixth heaven is the world of heaven fools us in to thinking we are safe and happy, when we are clinging to our attachments and feeling good about it. The devil of the sixth heaven appears whenever we, as individuals are about to overcome our kharma or break through in our own lives. " -- Pat Matthews

"Nikken is like a cancer. A cancer will destroy the body if it's not destroyed first so SGI must destroy Nikken." --Buster Williams, SGI leader Arts div meeting Dec 12, 2000

"When one chants with whole-hearted intent to defeat Nikken, one is actually purging one's life of its darkest demons. This is why people have felt liberated and experienced unbelievable joy welling up from the depths of their lives." -- Ikeda cult chief priest Narita

  1. Looks like you follow Ikeda. All about denouncing other believers and predicting horrible fates for them !
Most Catholics I know don’t follow the pope. So it goes that individuals have the potential to discern right from wrong.
Really grateful we are not dealing with Nichiren’s predicament in medieval Japan ! And that due to the blessings of the wonderful Law, we can extricate ourselves from the Nichiren tribal wars.

  2. Its easy to get caught up in absolutes, that is to say, judgement of anyone as a fixed entity. But, Buddhism teaches that we are a "temporary union of five components", and that change is the constant--- the potential for it and the state of flux of all phenomena that underpin it.
In one way or another we all make errors judging and/or assigning dastardly labels to those whose behavior we are repulsed by... and we are prone to seeking absolutes-- to simplify our lives.
Isn't it ironic that so often, those who have the most scathing condemnation of others are engaging in the exact same behavior? This comes to mind after watching Peter Navarro on Ari Melber recently, as he railed about the weaponization of institutional power for political purposes (Jan 6 committee specifically)- went on to yell about how bad this is for the country and both parties, and then immediately threatened the same action against dems "if" republicans regain control of congress this Fall.
SO... if fundamentally the attacks we witnessed by the top echelon of both SGI and NST against each other since the early 90's represents the same accusations of slander, etc. on both sides... shouldn't it follow that the attack mode strategy itself is slander? No matter who is doing it-?-- focus on persons and defaming them just deflects from the deeper issues of focus on the perfect teaching. by this I mean that the Law is self empowering- promising the potential of our individual development of wisdom and compassion through our own practice -alone. WE can have THAT experience and potentially develop a myriad of approaches to transforming these woeful Nichiren tribal wars. Focus on the power of daimoku and not the weaknesses, faults and flaws of others and ourselves, BTW, is key to transforming the suffering so many of us have endured for 3 decades. Happy to report that this is occurring in every Nichiren sect I know of ( and amongst independent practitioners)--- individual awakening-- NOT organizational PR.

  3. You write: "if fundamentally the attacks we witnessed by the top echelon of both SGI and NST against each other since the early 90's represents the same accusations of slander, etc. on both sides... shouldn't it follow that the attack mode strategy itself is slander? No, because one mistaken entity was attacking another mistaken entity. It was the kettle calling the teapot black. "The Patriarchal Transmission Through Golden Mouth Ones" (an oral transmission, not unlike Zen patriarchy) and SGI eternal mentor-disciple (an oral transmission called Yuiga Yoga or Guru Yoga, a Shingon transmission.)

Your stating that I am defaming believers is inaccurate. I am defaming human devils like Ikeda and you who fail to abide by the Lotusn Sutra and teachings of Nichiren. Besides, you are a broken record whose toxic negativity knows know bounds. Do I care who supports your mistaken views? Hardly.

Still, I chant for your Bodhi daily. As the Buddha and Nichiren teaches, they are attentive most fevently to their sick children. This is how I feel about you, Marty, the SGI and Nichiren Shoshu members, leaders, and priests.

  4. Sorry? So, now I'm a" human devil"? And your incessant abusive language towards believers in Myoho Renge Kyo is " upholding the teachings of the Lotus sutra and Nichiren"?
    How insane!
My statements regarding slander becoming rampant in America when "fellow believers" took off the gloves and attacked each other makes more sense in terms of the fundamentals of the LS and the Gosho.
The ugly infighting that you & Greg engaged in on Fraught with Peril -- continues here. Now you control the forum.
I am a nurse who continues to "be attentive to sick children". NEVER would I address them as you are doing here with "the sick children" you have identified as me, Marty and the SGI. First rule of being attentive-- "pay attention"- listen to and respect "the sick children" you wish to help.
Marty was spot on about "semantics" being a major obstacle to communicating with you, as it appears you have a whole different set of concepts and definitions for commonly understood words and terms.
The following are terms that describe how you treat me, Marty and SGI:
    1) You are* tyrannical* and rigid in your thinking.
    2) you are *intolerant* of opposing views.- cannot discuss your contentions, but immediately *attack* the person.
    3) You are *condescending*
    4)You are *patronizing*
    5) Your arguments are based on falsehoods.
" Your stating that I am defaming believers is inaccurate. I am defaming human devils like Ikeda and you who fail to abide by the Lotusn Sutra and teachings of Nichiren"

In the Latter Day of the Law, reciting Myoho Renge Kyo is belief in the Lotus Sutra. By strict, scriptual definition you are "defaming believers".
    6) You are *arrogant/authoritarian"- refusing to adhere to the accepted definitions and descriptions of terms clearly spelled out in the Gosho, and substituting your own concepts--like a *broken record*--but, still doesn't make a word you say, true!
