I saved a Red Tail Hawk today. My neighbor hit a Red Tail Hawk today. My neighbor across the street hit a Red Tail Hawk a the day before yesterday. Yesterday morning her Nephew, a friend came over and told me about the hawk. He also told me he called the Wildlife office they said, because of Avian Flu, that we should Euthanise it. He called a bird vetinarian and she was nasty and told him it was a felony to have a hawk. Knowing that I was a physician who did four years of surgery, he thought that I could splint it. Unfortunately, to me it looked like a compound fracture of this beautiful juvenile hawk.Fortunately, the hawk was eating and drinking. I searched and found treatment for compound wing fractures in raptors. It was so complex and requiring so much equipment that I told them, I couldn't help the bird but I would get up in the morning and make some calls. I chanted for the hawk who had such a vibrant young life. I got up and made 10 or so calls to Raptor Rehabilitation places, all over Oklahoma and Arkansas. Most people were fairly nice but I didn't trust anyone were they not advancerd orthopedic vets. I chanted real hard and the next call, I got a raptor rehab vet in Mena Arkansas. I took the Hawk in his large cage to Mena, a two and a half hour drive. The young hawk was quiet the whole way and we named it Kyokyo. The Raptor Rehab Doctor, Dr. Tommy Young took out the Red Hawk with great difficulty, having to grab it by the legs. When he got the hawk out, I swear, Kyokyo, looked at me as if, "why are you going dad?" My wife and I were so happy, that at least. we gave Kyokyo a chance. I'll call the doctor in the morning to see how she is doing. Gave my friends a report when we got home and they too were very happy. As always, the Gohonzon, Buddha, and Nichiren are great!
You are a good doctor and a compassionate soul. I feel like humans are so out of touch with nature, they will kill all wildlife and cull all trees. The forest service is about industry logging so they set fires that cause wildfires. Fish and game is about livestock, so they are eliminating all the bears, hawks, wolves, big cats. Such a shame
ReplyDeleteI love 99% of all animals. I only kill animals which harbor disease for humans. I dont kill spiders, snakes, nor ants and capture and release centipedes and millipedes, We have humane traps for too many mice (they in numbers transmit Hunta Virus) and we feed several country mice and offer sugar and other dainties to the sugar ants. We feed and talk to the Ravens. Cockroaches, flies, tapeworms and the like are another story because they transmit disease. I don't kill animals to eat, but I would hunt, not for the thrill of killing, only were it necessary to survive. I am not a vegetarian because my doctors tell me that I need animal proteins since I cant eat beans, seeds, chick peas, nuts, peanut butter, too much dairy, and avocado.I cheat from time to time by taking lots of calcium carbonate (TUMS).
Deleteanimal control officers do this as a matter of course - as do many animal lovers. maybe you mean to say you needed Myoho renge kyo to develop compassionate care for wounded animals? hopefully you will continue to develop humanistic qualities as you continue to chant!
ReplyDeleteIf you read my experience with animal control officers here, you would see that they recommended euthanasia. Why? Because it was friday and they were too lazy to repair this poor animals wing. Everyone can see your ugly face Katie. You are becoming more frightening by the day. Is that the benefit of a correct faith and practice?
ReplyDeletePretty ugly to generalize and make assumptions about animal control officers, Mark. More hubris from your ivory tower ? I think so.

oops! not kate ( I wish)
ReplyDeleteya oughta check yourself with the insults too. very bad form imo.
I just see nothing amazing or particularly buddhist about a lot of your experiences shared ,
my opinion having the good luck to be surrounded by compassionate animal lovers and sgi nst members who are thriving. just because ya don’t like hearing that you are openly hostile to whoever shares their stories . makes you look bad; not them btw
just read your old post about protecting the whole state of Oklahoma with “ the same mind of faith “ as Nichiren . guessing the protection was limited to pandemic effects, tho surely even that wasn’t the case. but where’s your bravado now? back to criticizing your state public officials and praising yourself ? protection ? hahaha
