This Gohonzon looks different from Kempon Hokke Headquarters 'Full Mystic Temple', that is also referred to as the Beautiful Unknown Gohonzon What is the story on this Gohonzon. Thanks
This is the Denpo Gohonzon or Gohonzon for the Transmission of the Dharma. It is Gohonzon 101 in the Gohonzon Shu and was inscribed in 1281 for the priest Nissho.
Why are you showing this particular one and not the other Gohonzon's for the Transmission of the Dharma. Do you have a collection of Gohonzon's for the transmission of the dharma.
Yes it's very nice, but I wouldn't become a member of Nichiren Shu so that I could have one. The Mystic Temple Gohonzon is just as majestic and even though our Gohonzon's mounting may be ordinary and the Butsudan basic it is our respect for the meaning of the Gohonzon itself that is paramount and that we have independence from any organization, sect, cult or person that seeks to control us by it
For an example if I wished to obtain one of these Denpo Gohonzon's from the independents or Kempon Hokke what would be the process that I would need go through ?
I voluntarily returned my Gohonzon to SGI as well as a beautiful Butsudan I purchased to house it. I LOVED the practice but SGI became too intrusive in my life. I preferred to practice alone. One night I actually had two Japanese members knocking at my door and side window at the same time. I hid in my bathroom until they left. They openly discouraged solitary practice. I would love to have my Gohonzon back. I still recite gongyo by myself daily. I cannot afford $200 bootleg copies.
I have cancelled the registration of my SGI membership as the organisation is too far gone. Many of the members who are suffering don't know where it's coming from and when they try to express their concerns, the organisation suppresses their voice. For example in raising a petition for the study of traditional Buddhist fundamentals e.g. Karma, Slander, Eternity of Life. The organisation has become too focused on Humanism, self development and has put it's spiritual base (even though some of it is corrupt) on the back burner
If you want the Denpo Gohonzon I can e-mail you a high resolution copy. I think the other Gohonzon in which you had a revelatory experience, Shinkei has a very high resolution copy he may be willing to send you. Write him at jerryxberry@yahoo.com
"Yes that's right, one too many red wines and past my bed time effected my judgment. This Gohonzon is very powerful I must of nodded off this morning while I was chanting and shifted into a state where I experienced a blissful joy and ecstasy that rivaled any psychedelic drug or transcendental state through yoga and meditation that I've had in the past The exulted states are described in Buddhism as the eternal unchanging, blissful, pure Self , knows of no beginning or end, beyond birth and death, time and space as the Dharmakaya , Law/Dharma body aspect of the Buddha. In my 25 years of chanting to SGI/NST Gohonzon's I have never experienced anything that comes even close to this."
I have been looking for a gohonzon for years. Gave mine back with the Butsudan I bought. I prefer solitary practice and sgi wouldn't "allow" that. Is there a place who sells them? Thanks. Mike
hi anonymous. e-mail me at illarraza@yahoo.com and please tell me a little about yourself, your faith and practice. Then I would be happy to discuss with you the matter of the gohonzon.
If you are chanting Namu Myoho renge kyo and doing gongyo twice a day and you sign one of the two Declarations of Faith or both, I will send you a framed copy of the Gohonzon for the Transmission of the Dharma or you could send me a blank wall scroll from blankwallscrolls.com and i will mount a Gohonzon for you, or I can send you a HDcopy of the Gohonzon and you can print it, frame or mount as you wish.
You must be chanting Namu Myoho renge kyo and the two essential chapters of the Lotus Sutra [Gongyo] at least daily [preferably twice a day] and you must sign one or both Declarations of Faith and return it to your friend in faith. Once you have signed the Declaration, you may receive and bestow Gohonzon on others and receive the Declaration of Faith from new believers.
DECLARATION OF FAITH 1
I, __________________________________, declare my faith in the doctrine of the Buddha founded sect:
1. I believe and accept the Hokkekyo or Lotus Sutra to be the Supreme Teaching of Buddha (The Jewel of the Dharma). 2. I believe the Eternal Buddha, Shakyamuni, revealed in the sixteenth Chapter of the Hokekyo, to be the True Object of Worship (The Jewel of the Buddha). 3. I accept the teachings of the Messenger of the Buddha, Nichiren Daishonin, the Earthly Manifestation of the Bodhisattva Jogyo, just as they are stated in his own writings (Jewel of the Sangha). 4. I accept the Direct Succession of the Dharma through the Scrolls of the Sutra. Having sincere faith in these teachings, I request that a Gohonzon Mandala be bestowed on me and I solemnly undertake to treat it always with proper reverence and should it become damaged or worn, I will either return it to a votary of the Lotus Sutra, be he priest or layman, or respectively repair or burn it in the proper manner [while reciting the Daimoku and the Jiga-ge]. Date: ___________________ Signed: __________________________
DECLARATION OF FAITH 2
I, ______________, do hereby affirm the following: “I am a member of Nichiren Lotus Sect of Buddhism, I am chanting the Daimoku of the Lotus Sutra (the Primary Practice), as well as, chapters 2 and 16 of the Lotus Sutra (Secondary Practice) on a regular basis (daily).” “I believe that the Mandala Gohonzon represents the land of Shakyamuni Buddha, the Eternally Enlightened Original Buddha, at the time of His transmission of the Law of Namu Myoho Renge Kyo to the Bodhisattvas of the Earth (Ceremony in the Air).” “I also make the following renunciations:” “I hereby completely reject the teachings of all non-Buddhist religions. I hereby reject the teachings of non-Hokke Buddhist religions.” “I hereby also reject all heretical teachings that have infiltrated Nichiren’s Buddhism, such as the belief that Nichiren is the Eternally Enlightened Original Buddha; belief in the so-called Dai Gohonzon; worship of various supernatural entities as independent beings, etc.”
This looks better than the one that was compared to the SGI's

ReplyDeleteKempon Hokke and many independents practice to and bestow this Gohonzon. I agree that respect for Gohonzon is paramount.

DeleteI have never had one in the first place. My wife has one but I never use it anymore.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to matters of faith, I make my own decisions.

DeleteThat was Noel's experience. Mine is much more mundane, living the life of a supporter, follower, and patron of Nichiren.
