The Soka Gakkai teachings have been propagated throughout Japan to a far greater extent than any other teachings yet Japan has suffered the worst calamities in the entire world since its inauspicious inception

"Examining this sutra passage, we realize that, though one may pray for the peace and safety of the times, the three calamities may occur in the nation, and this will be because evil teachings are propagated there."

  1. According to the Japan page of the CIA World Factbook,

    Shintoism - 83.9 %
    Buddhism - 71.4 %
    Christianity - 2 %
    Other - 7.8 %

Many people consider themselves to be followers of Shinto and Buddhism depending on the events/ceremonies which accounts for the figures being greater than 100%.

On another survey on Wikipedia these figures are different and most Japanese (67%) considered themselves non-religious in a 2011 IPSOS Mori survey.

Either way, the figures for SGI membership in Japan only accounts for about 10% of the population, so despite the disproportionate attention it gets from non-SGI citizens in Japan and around the world, it's still a relatively small organisation.

It seems strange to associate the blame for Japan's tragedies with the Soka Gakkai when 90% of the country is not even practising Nichiren Buddhism as SGI members.

  2. from that stand point, although i doubt the numbers. shintoism took a big fall after the war. fact. you make a valid point, however, the entire country of japan are and have been slanders of the buddhas dharma(the lotus sutra). shintoism is a bastardization of buddhism and other things. christianity is slanderous of buddhism. the others are the same. in japan there is nichiren shoshu. they have made up their own teachings and mix the L.S. and what nichiren taught with many things such as tendai buddhism, they use phony gosho . have made up phony documents, and changed paragraphs to support their teachings of lies and support their incorrect doctrine. i.e. the dai gohonzon, nichiren as tru buddha. slander. ikeda knows this so he has no fear of leaving them. neither shoshu or sgi debate the teachings with each other because they know they would both lose. fact. anyone who really, truly studies the teachings with good translations will see first of all that shoshu is full of crap. ikeda and his staff know this but they don't care about the correct teachings. they care about money, politics and power. and also aggrandizement of ikeda. slander. then their is the nichiren shu. they are quite large and even the nichiren shoshu priests used to study to become a priest at the shu's universities. they don't agree with shoshu or the gak in teachings or in the truncated daimoku that the shoshu or gak chant. nam rather than what nichiren wrote and chanted namu. however their slanderous mistake is like shoshu and the gak. they too do not follow shak or nichiren and mix the preparatory teachings with the lotus sutra. slander. at the end of the day it all comes down to power and money not what the buddha taught. these are the three major sects in buddhism and they make up a large percent of the country. of the three the most egregious and aggressive is the sgi. not only in japan but in the usa and the entire world. they are also by far the richest. they buy what they want. politically they have way too much power. no other buddhist sect has a political party. nichiren described japan as the land of slander in the saha world. this is why he was born there. study the teachings. they have already had not one but two atomic bombs dropped on them and now they are living on an atomic bomb. this is their punishment and if it spreads here , things will only get worse then they are for the American people. it is not just the sgi but they are the most rich and aggressive. so mark and i and others point out that they do not practice or teach buddhism. get some good translations, study the teachings, follow nichiren. then it will all become clear. it is not only the sgi but they are the most dangerous. as B.O.E. it is our responsibility to point out the truth even if we should lose our heads. no fear here.

  3. Great Greg. "Nichiren Buddhist, please notice that Nichiren writes, "propagated". There is very little propagation by the Nichiren Shoshu, Nichiren Shu, Kempon Hokke, any other Buddhism, or Shinto, in Japan. Only thesGI continues to propagate their teachings of Ikedaism, the most evil teaching of all. Please also notice that there is nowhere in the Lotus Sutra or Gosho where we find the SGI kosen rufu rule about 1/3 of the population SGI, 1/3 of the population supporting SGI and 1/3 opposed to SGI. Converesely, Nichiren merely says "evil teachings", not "1/3 of the people propagating evil teachings.' One person propagating Ikedaism is too many and the cause for disaster wherever it is propagated.

    1. if one claims to be a nichiren buddhist, then they should listen to what nichiren teaches. not to someone else unless that persons words and action match what nichiren taught. yes?

      yes.
