Question: Why doesn't SGI teach Nichikan?
Answer: SGI is loathe to teach Nichikan because, the bottom line, he was a Nichiren Shoshu prelate whose views are antithetical to SGI Ikeda's.
Question: Then why did they choose a Nichikan rather than a Nichiren Gohonzon?
Answer: There are two reasons. They also don't teach teach Nichiren [the entirety of his canon and doctrines] because his views too are antithetical to SGI Ikeda's. In addition, they [Ikeda SGI] were stupid.
