It would be more appropriate to leave the epithet "Lord" for Shakyamunibuddha, and use something else for Nichiren, like Teacher, Master, or even Bodhisattva.

It is a matter of how we look at the three Buddha Bodies e.g. Dharma body, Reward body and Manifest body in its relationship with ultimate principle of ichinen sanzen.
Chapter 12 of the Lotus Sutra reveals the relationship between Sakyamuni and Devadatta in their previous lives, that Devadatta was once Sakyamuni’s master; therefore, because of that merit and although Devadatta is infamous as an evil person, he will attain Buddhahood in the future.
Please remember that Chapter 12 falls under the theoretical teaching of the Lotus Sutra. Since Shakyamuni Buddha of the Juryo Chapter is the Original Teacher from time without beginning, there can be no more original teacher than He. From the standpoint of the essential teachings Shakyamuni Buddha is the original teacher of all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas throughout the Universe.

Answer: Original Teacher means that no matter how eminent, wise, or knowledgeable one may be, no matter how diligent one is in carrying out the Six Paramitas (Six Perfections), and no matter how long one practices the Six Paramitas, there is no way that one could come up with, let alone reveal, Myoho renge kyo independently of Shakyamuni Buddha. Shakyamuni Buddha, in the history of the universe, was the one unique individual capable of doing so. Nichiren realized this, taught this, and reverenced Shakyamuni Buddha for His astronomical feat of autonomous self-practice. That is why He, rather than any other individual, is revered as the person of the Gohonzon (Ninpo-Ika or Oneness of Person and Law).
We owe our very Enlightenment to this Buddha and this Buddha alone as did Devedatta.

Actually, "he" is me since I wrote that according to my understanding, not Nichiren. If I am mistaken, please point it out to me in light of the Lotus Sutra and the authenticated writings of Nichiren. Certainly, we are all learning, expanding, and developing, At least, I hope so.
If "he" is we, why not Nichien. We all have the same Entity (ichnen sanzen) which means we all have the same potential including the Eternal Shakyamuni Buddha right down to Hellish beings like Devadatta who is a representation of those who that create the Heaviest Karma which is caused from slandering the Law, but even he can be saved in this lifetime by chanting to the Gohonzon. The early stages of the Gohonzon's didn't have Devadatta in it because it was almost impossible to save those with the worst karma in the multiverse in this life time. It carried Shakyamumi's Buddhism way of enlightenment that took many lifetimes to attain.
When the time came for Nichiren to confirm the complete, expanded Gohonzon, Devadatta was no longer left out, which means he has the same potential as the Ten worlds
The theory Oneness of good and evil teaches us that even evil will help to strengthen our faith if we can win over the evil within and without . The message is that we shouldn't worry too much about the evil within and without but rather be aware, have control and create value out of it. If we lose the battle between good and evil, the theory of good and evil will be wasted
In the Devadatta chapter, in the ceremony in the air Shakyamuni mentioned that Daivadatta was his master in his pervious life. The the evilness of Devadatta is integral with Shakyamuni's enlightenment
Of course Nichiren is the Reward Body of the Eternal Buddha and Devedatta too, in his property of wisdom aspect. Thanks to Devedatta, evil people too are certain to attain Buddhahood.
Many Treasures Buddha is the objective reality(Dharma body) and Shakyamuni Buddha refers to subjective wisdom (Reward body). They both exist to the left and right of Namu Myoho Renge Kyo (oneness of Dharma, Reward, and Manifest body) in the Gohonzon (manifest body)
