Sir, before the end of the first cold war the West was scared to death of a Russian invasion of Europe. Because of their overwhelming superiority in conventional arms, particularly tanks, it was estimated that Russia could overrun the entire continent in a few days. Thus the nuclear deterrent was born. Even today, if Russia had the will to overrun Ukraine [in an all out conventional war], regardless of the nature and amount of conventional arms given to Ukraine, they could overrun the country in a day or two. The use of nuclear arms as deterrent, let alone offensively or preemptively, is patently unthinkable to a sane man. Therefore, we must conclude that the best course is to to allow Russia their buffer and the annexation of Eastern Ukraine. This is what the people there want anyway. It will avoid further bloodshed and the potential for a humanity ending conflagration. -- Mark Rogow

i agree...lets heed the omens as the great teacher NIcheren has foretold...."At the time when the wonderful precept of the essential teaching is to spread, there will doubtless be omens never witnessed in any previous age. The great earthquake of the Shōka era and the huge comet of the Bun’ei era39 were two such signs. But who among our contemporaries, what school of Buddhism, is actually propagating the object of devotion and the sanctuary of the essential teaching? Not a single person carried out this task during the 2,220 years and more following the Buddha’s passing. Now, more than 700 years after Buddhism was introduced to Japan in the reign of the thirtieth emperor Kimmei, the great Law never heard of in previous ages is spreading throughout Japan. How reassuring it is to know that not only the people here, but those of India, China, and the entire land of Jambudvīpa will be able to attain Buddhahood!"(and east/west ukraine)
