Nichiren refutes SGI's Oneness of Mentor and Disciple doctrine

SGI Vice President:

“If we truly wish to reach this point, we must read President Ikeda’s guidance repeatedly. We must get to the point where we can’t distinguish between our own speech and action and what we would do if we were the SGI President. It’s incorrect for us to put our opinions about how to behave over what we believe President Ikeda would do. It’s *even worse* to act *without thinking* about *what President Ikeda would do*. This is not acting as a disciple.”

Nichiren Daishonin:

"The essential teaching’s doctrine of attaining Buddhahood in one’s present form concludes that one can attain supreme enlightenment in one’s present status as an ordinary person, without changing individual characteristics."

"When we revere Myoho-renge-kyo inherent in our own life as the object of devotion, the Buddha nature within us is summoned forth and manifested by our chanting of Namu-myoho-renge-kyo. This is what is meant by “Buddha.” To illustrate, when a caged bird sings, birds who are flying in the sky are thereby summoned and gather around, and when the birds flying in the sky gather around, the bird in the cage strives to get out. When with our mouths we chant the Mystic Law, our Buddha nature, being summoned, will invariably emerge. The Buddha nature of Brahmā and Shakra, being called, will protect us, and the Buddha nature of the Buddhas and bodhisattvas, being summoned, will rejoice. This is what the Buddha meant when he said, “If one can uphold it [the Mystic Law] even for a short while I will surely rejoice and so will the other Buddhas.”

All Buddhas of the three existences, too, attain Buddhahood by virtue of the five characters of Myoho-renge-kyo. These five characters are the reason why the Buddhas of the three existences appear in the world; they are the Mystic Law whereby all living beings can attain the Buddha way. You should understand these matters thoroughly and, on the path of attaining Buddhahood, chant Namu-myoho-renge-kyo without arrogance or attachment to biased views."

"A woman known as the Dragon King's Daughter achieved Buddhahood through faith in the Lotus Sutra."

“Even you, Shāriputra, in the case of this sutra were able to gain entrance through faith alone, not because of any wisdom of your own.” [Let alone because of the wisdom of Daisaku Ikeda]

"If there are those who hear the Law, then not a one will fail to attain Buddhahood." [Once again, nothing about having the mind of the SGI mentor].

"The Venerable Maudgalyāyana put his faith in the Lotus Sutra, which is the greatest good there is, and thus not only did he himself attain Buddhahood, but his father and mother did so as well."

"He knows that those who hear even a single sentence or phrase of the Lotus Sutra will attain Buddhahood without fail..."

"The passage cited above tells us what lies in store for good men who put faith in the Lotus Sutra upon hearing it. That is, if even a person as evil as Devadatta can become a Buddha, then how could persons of this latter age who, even if they are guilty of grave offenses, have in most cases not committed anything worse than the ten evil acts, fail to attain Buddhahood? And all the more so if they are deeply loyal in their faith."

"And because he had faith in the Lotus Sutra, there can be no doubt that “then not a one will fail to attain Buddhahood.”

"The world we live in today is a muddy age, a time of confusion. Moreover, everywhere we look we see chaos, so that all people in their present life meet with armed conflict and fall into the realm of the asuras, and in their next life will doubtless be reborn in the evil paths of existence. Nevertheless, it is taught that those people who put their faith in the Lotus Sutra will attain Buddhahood."
