If you have a non Nichiren shrine in your home can you still get a Gohonzon to set up on a separate shrine? (self.SGIUSA)

If you already have a non Nichiren shrine in your home (eg, to a Catholic saint, or a Hindu God, etc) can you still get a Gohonzon to set up on a separate shrine in your home? Or does having the other shrine preclude you form receiving the Gohonzon?

Yes. And you needn't give up your other practices to practice Nichiren Buddhism. I know Catholics that go to church and still chant.

    Why we need to give up our other practices. Buddhism can only help strengthen your other believers. It just seems like thought control with Nichien Buddhism.

    No. Our faith is based on the most profound scripture, the Lotus Sutra. Because the Lotus Sutra teaches us to abandon lesser vehicles and embrace the Great Vehicle, we give up other practices.
