They teach that people need to do Human Revolution and, at the same time, they teach that we are all Buddhas. As someone said on redditsgiwhistleblowers, "It's as good as saying to someone that they are f--ked-up and perfect at the same time." It is no wonder that Soka Gakkai members are confused. SGI wants it that way to keep the members tethered to the Soka Gakkai through their guidance activities.
