Today is the date of the Komatsubara Persecution (1264)

 

An attempt was made on Nichiren Daishonin's life by Tojo Kagenobu, the Steward of Awa Province and a fanatical Pure Land believer and several of Tojo's Samurai. Nichiren suffered a sword cut on his forehead and a broken hand. Two of Nichiren's samurai disciples died. Tojo and one of his Samurai were also killed. Notice Nichiren protecting himself with his prayer beads (Juzu). Thats Kuan Yin in the tree.
