The relative importance of faith and "toso" chanting [long chanting sessions]

The Lotus Sutra, Nirvana Sutra, Flower Garland Sutra, and Nichiren teach that faith, not endless chanting, is first and foremost. Only several times in the entire body of his writings does Nichiren mention performing long chanting sessions: Once about a disciple who chanted ten hours [50 thousand Daimoku] for his deceased father and once in a personal letter about continously chanting the Daimoku being equal to continuously reading the Lotus Sutra. Faith, on the other hand is mentioned 600 times. This is the reality of the Nichiren faith.
