Who do we thank when we are cured of a serious illness? Do we thank the medicine or the physician? We thank the physician. In like manner, when we chant the Daimoku, we thank Shakyamuni Buddha of the Juryo Chapter of the Lotus Sutra, the great physician who prescribed the medicine and Nichiren Daishonin who dispensed the medicine.
