The Specific and General Transmission made simple

Nichiren taught the Specific Transmission as the transmission from the Original Buddha Shakyamuni to Bodhisattva Jogyo. Nichiren taught the General Transmission as the transmission from the Original Buddha Shakyamuni to the Bodhisattvas of the Earth.

The Specific Transmission does not refer to a transmission from Nichiren Daishonin to the Nichiren Shoshu priests, to Daisaku Ikeda, nor the Three Presidents. The General Transmission does not refer to the Nichiren Shoshu priests nor the three presidents transmitting the Law to their disciples and believers.

They fabricated their teachings on the transmission in order for the self serving agenda of money and power. They make the transmission appear other than what the Lotus Sutra and Nichiren taught.

Nichiren Daishonin' explanation of the transmission accords with the Lotus Sutra's. Nichiren Shoshu's and SGI's does not.

"Myohorengekyo is what all tathagatas of the three time periods have obtained." -- Tientai

"Myohorengekyo is the inner storehouse of the exceeding profundity of the original ground; ... it is what all tathagatas of the three time periods have obtained." Thus, when we chant Myohorengekyo, the Buddha of original enlightenment will appear within our minds. Our body and minds are like a storehouse, and the character myo, to the seal that opens it. It opens the secret innermost storehouse; this is termed myo (wonderful). It demonstrates the correct principles of true and provisional; therefore, it is termed ho (dharma). It indicates the original effect (obtained by the Buddha) in the distant past; for this, ren (lotus) is used as a metaphor. It encompasses (everything) in the perfect path of non-duality; this is illustrated by ge (blossom). The voice does the Buddha's work; this is termed kyo sutra." He also states, " The word myo praises the inconceivable Dharma. Moreover, myo indicates the ten realms, ten suchnesses and all provisional and true teachings." -- Tientai

Daisaku Ikeda puts Goebbels propaganda into practice

"Propaganda works best when those who are being manipulated are confident that they are acting on their own free will." -- Goebbels

"Society members have overcome one obstacle after another and attained Supreme and Perfect Enlightenment in this very life." -- SGI leader

Which ones, those who were run over by snow plows, those whose skulls were crushed in accidents, those who were murdered, or those many leaders whose sons and daughters experienced untoward deaths? Certainly not my friends Nat Dames and Dewitt Johnson and certainly not Shin Yatomi, David Kasahara, Guy McCloskey, or Daisaku Ikeda. Events such as those that you claim (attaining Enlightenment in one's present form) must have documented dates and times according to Nichiren Daishonin and in this modern day, unretouched photographs. Toda looked like death warmed over for months before he died and you expect us to believe that he was bright and rosy the moment of his death and for many hours thereafter? I too have heard talk about cherry treees blooming out of season but where is the independent documentation? There is none. SGI leaders and members can not even cross a moat a few feet wide but they would have us believe that one can safely cross the great ocean of life and death with the SGI teachings. How absurd!

The reality of Nichiren Shoshu's depravity

Nichiren Shoshu priest: It wasn't our fault that the SGI gave out Gohonzon to anyone who wanted one. It wasn't our responsibility to examine the faith of every person the SGI introduced.

Nichiren believer: You printed the hundreds of thousands of Gohonzons given out by the SGI and you only spent minutes with the hundreds of people who came to receive the Gohonzon. Do you think that Nichiren Daishonin never thoroughly interviewed every person to whom he bestowed Gohonzon?

Demolishing an SGI talking pont

"Why don't you return to the Soka Gakkai? The SGI has changed with the honinmyo [begin again from this moment] spirit." -- SGI cult member talking point

The principle of Honinmyo is not to be used like Catholic confession or repentance: Anything one does is ok so long as one confesses and recites the Hail Marys. It would be better that those responsible for the debacle that is SGI step down and refrain from teaching and spreading Ikedaism.

The $oka Gakkai cash cow

"The Bequethal of the Golden Utterance to the Direct Successors" -- Nichiren Shoshu doctrine

Certainly, it has been golden for the Nichiren Shoshu, to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars from the utters of the Soka Gakkai cash cow.

"There is a difference if one chants the daimoku while acting against the intent of this Sutra". -- Nichiren

SGI interfaith, a narcissistic billionaire master in the seat of the Law, and an intimate business relationship with the largest defense contractor in Japan IS acting against the intent of this Sutra.

Failng to see the sameness of the two

Practicer #1: In May of 1972 Geroge Williams announced to a small group of us at the Malibu Training Center that "Daisaku Ikeda was the re-incarnation of Nichiren Daishonin." BTW....this was in front of Ikeda. This announcement occurred just after D. Ikeda handed me a glass of water to pass around to those that were there, and before, he handed me a pack of cigarettes to pass around.
SGI leader Soren: What's the difference between you saying that and if I were to say "Nichiren Shoshu physically tortures people" with no specific proof?
Practicer # 1: Or that Nichiren inscribed the DaiGohonzon.
SGI leader Soren: Gee, you really CAN'T see any difference between the two, can you?
Practicer # 2: You fail to see the sameness of the two.

Hey Jim, how many SGI members lost everything and died in the Japanese Tsunami?

From: jimcu...@aol.com (Jim Celer, Midwest bureau CHIEF for SGI "Living Buddha" magazine):

"The slanderous acts of Nikken and his followers in Indonesia have driven the Buddhist Gods from the country.

At least 30 NSI active members were badly affected by the social unrest. Some lost their stores and businesses. Some lost their houses or other property. Mobs invaded some of their homes, looting almost everything, including the Gohonzon and butsudan. Worse, one NSI member's Gohonzon was burnt. a grandmother, daughter and granddaughter of one family in Bintan Island were killed by their own employees while the son-in-law was in Jakarta participating in the Vesak Day ceremony. This incident has shocked not only the Indonesians, but was also widely reported in Singapore.  So far we have only received 1 report of incidents directly affecting our members." -- Jim

Why SGI can not win the debate

SGI Men's Division February study material:

http://www.sgi-usa.org/memberresources/mensdivision/study/16/February_2016_MD_Study_Material.pdf

Nichiren could not have been any clearer yet SGI and Nichiren Shoshu mistake his teachings

"With full understanding of Shakyamuni’s teachings, the four great voice-hearers said, “This cluster of unsurpassed jewels has come to us unsought.” They represent the world of the voice-hearer that is within ourselves. The Buddha stated, “At the start I took a vow, hoping to make all persons equal to me, without any distinction between us, and what I long ago hoped for has now been fulfilled. I have converted all living beings and caused them all to enter the Buddha way.” Shakyamuni Buddha, who has attained perfect enlightenment, is our own flesh and blood. His practices and the resulting virtues are our bones and marrow. The “Treasure Tower” chapter of the Lotus Sutra says, “He who is capable of guarding the Law of this sutra will thereby have offered alms to me and to Many Treasures. . . . One who guards this sutra will also have offered alms to the emanation Buddhas who have come here adorning and making brilliant all the various worlds.” Shakyamuni, Many Treasures, and the Buddhas of the ten directions represent the world of Buddhahood within ourselves. By searching them out within us, we can receive the benefits of all these Buddhas. This is what is meant by the following passage: “If one listens to them [the preachers of the Law] for even a moment, one will immediately attain supreme perfect enlightenment.” The “Life Span” chapter reads, “It has been immeasurable, boundless hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, millions of nayutas of kalpas since I in fact attained Buddhahood.” Shakyamuni Buddha within our lives is the eternal Buddha since time without beginning, who obtained the three bodies more than numberless major world system dust particle kalpas ago. The “Life Span” chapter states, “Originally I practiced the bodhisattva way, and the life span that I acquired then has yet to come to an end but will last twice the number of years that have already passed.” He was speaking of the world of the bodhisattva within ourselves. The bodhisattvas, as numerous as the dust particles of a thousand worlds, who emerged from beneath the earth, are the followers of the Shakyamuni Buddha present in our lives. They follow the Buddha just as T’ai-kung Wang and Tan, the Duke of Chou, served as ministers to King Wu of the Chou dynasty and later assisted his son and successor, the infant King Ch’eng; or just as the Chief MinisterTakenouchi supported Empress Jingū and later her grandson Crown Prince Nintoku as a highly valued minister. The bodhisattvas Superior Practices, Boundless Practices, Pure Practices, and Firmly Established Practices represent the world of the bodhisattva within ourselves. The Great Teacher Miao-lo says: “You should understand that one’s life and its environment at a single moment encompass the three thousand realms. Therefore, when one attains the Buddha way, one puts oneself in accord with this fundamental principle, and one’s body and mind at a single moment pervade the entire realm of phenomena.” (True Object of Worship)

"Shakyamuni Buddha within our lives is the eternal Buddha since time without beginning,"

Nichiren Shoshu's Evangelical Christian argument

Evangelical Christian: If there is even a one in a billion chance that Jesus was the son of G-d, if he is and you reject him, you will fall into hell.

Nichiren Shoshu member: If there is even a one in a billion chance that the DaiGohonzon is the sole Gohonzon inscribed for the sake of all mankind, if it is and you reject it, you will fall into hell.

Nichiren's Mddle Way Buddhism or the SGI and Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism of malignant transformation?

There is a Middle Way between Funeral Buddhism and the Nichiren Shoshu Soka Gakkai "Buddhism" of Malignant Transformation, a Middle Way between stagnation and uncontrolled growth. It is the Way of Nichiren Daishonin.

The "Buddhism" of Malignant Transformation refers to the SGI, NST and some other more or less rapidly growing heretical Nichiren sects and there are many parallels to malignant tumors of the highest, lowest, and middle grades. I will limit this discussion to those tumors of the middle (NST) and highest (SGI) grades.

Some tumors, though growing slowly, are able to sustain themselves (NST), thus sometimes killing the host (society) regardless of the treatment (refutation and rebuke) and sometimes entering into a symbiotic relationship with the host. On the other hand,  many high grade tumors may or may not be eradicated by intense treatment such as surgery (outlawing the SGI heretical sect and their doctrines, for example).

Fortunately, the most malignant tumors (SGI), those with the most uncontrolled growth, sometimes outpaces its ability to sustain itself and it eventually either dies out on its own or is very amenable to early radiation and chemotherapy (refutation and rebuke), thus sparing the host (the individual and society). On the other hand, sometimes these latter fast growing tumors spread so rapidly that there is a rapid decline and death of the host, for example the misfortunes that have plagued Japan for the last seventy or so years.

Now, thanks in no small part to the efforts of the excellent physicians, the true disciples and believers of Nichiren, the two NST metastasis of Nichiren as True Buddha and the Transmission through Successive High Priests have been nearly eradicated and society is being spared further assault. The excellent surgeons, be they independents or members of orthodox sects, are also in the process of carefully removing the liver metastasis of Oneness of Mentor and Disciple and the brain metastasis of SGI Interfaith. The Buddha's body is looking better and he will now be able to tend to to his land that SGI has nearly succeeded in destroying.

True disciples and believers of Nichiren have been growing slowly and steadily like normal healthy tissue for the past 700 years. Jewels are rare while rocks and tiles are everywhere. Those who practice Nichiren's Middle Way Buddhism are the jewels of the Lotus Sutra.

Lying SGI cult propagandist

NIKKEN BOKOKU-4:

Mr.M is a city council representative of Maebashi-city. He was originally a Komei party member, but later he left Soka Gakkai and joined Hokkeko. Tragically, his third son died on 3/9/98 at the nearby hospital!!!! The son took several days off from school because of his cold. Since his cold didn't get better he was hospitalized. Next day he was found dead from an unknown cause!!!!! (a rumor from the hospital worker says that it might be a suicide!!!!!) His first son died young from drowning. His second son has not been reliable to him in any way!!! His shock was enormous!!! One can eliminate such tragic incidents by practicing the true teachings which can only be found today in Soka Gakkai and SGI!!!! -- Kachiyuke

Are there bad Buddhas in the SGI?

Could you please explain why awakened SGI Buddhas, the leaders responsible for children activities, are required to have a background check with the SGI legal division and must follow a strict set of guidelines such as never finding themselves alone with a minor? Are there bad Buddhas in the Soka Gakkai? Would a Buddha ever harm a child? Do Buddhas require and follow precepts in order to manifest the behavior of a Buddha or is the SGI faith and practice powerless to create Buddhas? Please be so kind as to answer these questions. Thanks in advance.

"If the source is muddy, the stream will not flow clear; if the body is bent, the shadow will not be straight." -- Nichiren

With the Nichiren Shoshu as "source" of the SGI, rather than the Lotus Sutra and Nichiren, of course SGI is screwed up.

Singapore SGI members are coocoo for cocoa puffs

"Ex-General Director had also repeatedly shared since the year 2008 in youth prayer meetings and dialogues that Singapore must strive to be the true model organisation for worldwide Kosen-rufu. He also arrogantly made the following remark to belittle senior leaders in Japan. He mentioned that the Japanese senior leaders were born close to Sensei in this lifetime because they did not receive strict training from Sensei in their past lives. In retrospect, we are born far away from our mentor because we had received strict training from our mentor in our past lives." (Source: Reader’s Personal Findings)

"Fearlessly following Sensei with an open heart and a seeking mind is in fact our ticket out of hell"

"Fearlessly following Sensei with an open heart and a seeking mind is in fact our ticket out of hell, for all eternity. His life epitomizes the essence of what Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism is all about, in all aspects. That's why I will always respect and follow him. Like the story about the fly that can travel a thousand miles by clinging to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, You and I are both insignificant beings who nevertheless have the potential to attain enlightenment in this lifetime by simply following Sensei." -- Dick "Wiley Bad" Powell proud 40 year SGI member

Why follow those who make so many errors?

Excerpts of High Priest Nikken's Lectures in Shinyo Magazine issue 20...

"The Dai-mandala, the true object of worship, is in the depths of the Lotus Sutra in the Chapter of the Treasure Tower."

Even the lowly HBS priests and reverends know that the Gohonzon was revealed in the Eight Chapters of the Lotus Sutra from the fifteenth to the twenty-second chapters and especially in the sixteenth chapter. At best, in the 11th Chapter, the Gohonzon is apprehended like the  first light of the sun before rising from behind the horizon. Having made such a fundamental error, my question is, why follow anyone other than Shakyamuni Buddha and Nichiren Daishonin, least of all the Nichiren Shoshu High Priest and Daisaku Ikeda?

"We don't worship little baby Buddhas" -- vapid SGI member on you tube

"And on another occasion the little retreat where I was living, where I had enshrined a statue of Shakyamuni Buddha as the object of devotion, and where I stored the texts of the various sutras, was attacked and destroyed, and the statue of the Buddha and sutra texts were not only trampled upon, but thrown into the mud and filth. And a scroll of the Lotus Sutra, which I had placed in the breast of my robe, was snatched forth and I was mercilessly beaten over the head with it. These heinous crimes were carried out not because of any ancient enmity harbored against me or because of any offense I had recently committed, but solely because I worked to propagate the teachings of the Lotus Sutra."

"Shakyamuni Buddha, our father and mother, who is endowed with the three virtues of sovereign, teacher and parent, is the very one who encourages us, the people driven out by all other Buddha, saying, "I alone can save them." The debt of gratitude we owe him is deeper than the ocean, weightier than the earth, vaster than the sky. Though we were to pluck out our two eyes and place them before him as an offering until there were more eyes there than stars in the sky, though we were to strip off our skins and spread them out by the hundreds of thousands of ten thousands until they blanketed the ceiling of heaven, though we were to give him our tears as offerings of water and present him with flowers for the space of a hundred billion kalpas, though we were to offer him our flesh and blood for innumerable kalpas, until our flesh piled up like mountains and our blood overflowed like vast seas, we could never repay a fraction of the debt we owe to this Buddha! (MW vol. 4, The Learned Doctor Shan-wu-wei)

"However, later seeking and entering the deep cave, you see a single hermitage. The voices of the reading and reciting of the Hokekyo echo against blue heaven and the words of discussing the doctrine of the One Vehicle are heard in the midst of the mountains. Informing [them, of your presence and requesting] admittance, you enter the chamber, place your mother's bones before the Master of Teachings Lord Shakya, cast your five limbs to the ground, press your palms together, and opening your two eyes, look up to the Holy Face: joy overflows your body and the pain of your heart suddenly ceases." (On Forgetting Ones Copy Of The Lotus Sutra, NOPPA Translation)

"Oooohhh what a slanderer. He has four Gohonzons" -- SGI Dodo bird member

Nikko Shonin had four Nichiren Gohonzons.

Does Taisekeji possess any Nichiren inscribed Gohonzon?

"Furthermore, Nikko did leave four authentic Nichiren Omandalas at Kitayama Honmonji where he spent the rest of his life. Those Omandalas were eventually given to other Nikko lineage temples: Myokakuji in Kyoto, Honnoji in Kyoto, Honmonji in Kyoto, and Hokkeji in Kagawa Prefecture. On these, Nikko wrote: “Hanging it up in Honmonji, one should make it the esteemed jewel of the Latter Age.” The reference to Honmonji is most obviously to Kitayama Honmonji and not to Taisekiji. It is also odd that Taisekiji, the other temple founded by Nikko and claimed to be the location of his main lineage by the Nichiren Shoshu, did not receive any of these authentic Nichiren Omandalas. That by itself proves nothing, but it is a curious comment on Nikko’s attitutde towards Taisekiji. Some have suggested that he left Taisekiji and founded Kitayama Honmonji because he did not want to entrust the future of his (really Nichiren’s) teachings to the family of Nanjo Tokimitsu who controlled it as their family temple. In any case, Nikko’s grave is at Kitayama Honmonji and it is oriented not towards Taisekiji and the alleged Dai-Gohonzon, but towards Nichiren’s grave at Mt. Minobu."

Question

Since the inscription down the center of the Gohonzon is NAM MU MYO HO REN GE KYO, why do you [SGI] chant NAM MYO HO REN GE KYO?

Poll:Pick a new name for the SGI newspaper [World Tribune] and magazine [Living Buddhism].

Weird Tribune or World Fibune?

Lying Buddhism or Living Ikedaism?

Since it was your ex who hit you, why do you blame the SGI?

"Because before he joined the SGI, for ten years, he never hit me."

The Soka Gakkai has ruined my family

"I'll tell you my experience:

I would like to expose my indirect experience with the Soka Gakkai, in the sense that I did not practice but my wife practiced and, in fact, the Soka Gakkai has ruined my family. I'll try to be brief.

THE fact goes back about 10 years ago and I tell it to make sure that people who read this story make good use of it.

I live near Civitanova Marche in the province of Macerata and about 10 years ago I was married and we had a 9 year old girl.

It was a time when my wife had lost her job and we all know how work is important for every person. She then left 2 evenings a week for what she called a "special time"and then I found out she was going to SGI meetings .

After a while she began chanting in Chinese at home before some sort of altar alongside a photo of Ikeda (terrible this thing).

Personally, the chanting gave me a strange feeling and I rejected it. I asked her to pray in the room with the door closed because it was bothering me and maybe also our daughter.

Then I told him that I had no intention to pray with her and I asked her politely not least of performing in front of our daughter. The girl, unfortunately, was intrigued by this practice that perhaps she seemed a kind of game and she began chanting with her mother.

After a month the girl began chanting even in her sleep. She wasn't sleeping well and began to lose focus in school.

I asked my wife if she could possibly pray quietly and without our daughter. She said, asserting that she was already taking precautions and that she was told by her leader to recite at least 2 or 3 times a day for 30 minutes because they would find work and would bring harmony and happiness within the family.

She did not understand that it was the SGI practice that was the ruin of our family !!!!!!

I now was in the family with the only aim to get close to my daughter in order to help her overcome herb sleep disorder and poor school performance due to the drama caused by her mother.

Given my wife's constant recitation every night, I thought of separating and simultaneously to seek custody of my daughter on the grounds that her mother was neglecting her, chanting for one hour and a half a day and going to meetings.

Well I made this request, got the social worker who has appraised of thge the situation at home which my wife confirmed. I managed to get joint custody (which is almost impossible 9 years ago ) so that my daughter could stay with me every other week. I was happy 'cause in those weeks that she was with me, the little girl resumed the serenity and you could see from the look in the eyes !!!

She is now an adult and thankfully did not follow the practice of the mother who remained, unfortunately, exclusively with SGI friends SGI. I write this to let you know that if a member of the family becomes a member of the Soka Gakkai, it is the ruin of the family unless you both practice together. This was my reality as it 'was for other people in my area in Porto Potenza: Broken families because one member of the family 'became Soka Gakkai."

SGI's great respect for Gohonzon

"Put a leaf in your mouth when you handle the Gohonzon" -- SGI leader

But its ok to give Gohonzon to every Tom, Dick, and Hiro so they can unceremoneously throw them in the trash as did hundreds of thousands of former SGI cult members.

"Those who uphold the Right Dharma are as few as the grains of earth on a fingernail."

"The truth of Buddhism has nothing to do with the opinion of the majority. All that is important is whether a belief is in accord with the scriptures. And, further, the golden words of the Buddha have already informed us that in the age of the Latter Day of the Law those who uphold the Right Dharma would be few in number. Thus the Nirvana Sutra says that "those who uphold the Right Dharma are as few as the grains of earth on a fingernail, and those that slander the Dharma are as numerous as the earth in all the ten directions"

Experience of Margherita Manconi

"My experience of living together lasted just long enough, to realize, to suffer a lot and run away. Summarize. Last summer, summer 2011, after saying goodbye to my partner leave for Sardinia, my land. Having said a few days before departure he took my face in his hands and gave me a pat instead of the lady he loved so much, I'm not a believer but I loved this sweetness. Return on September 2, picks me up and I notice a strange detachment, which also had received the phone while lontananza.Arriviamo home and observe that it is agitated, asking me to wait at the bar that I have prepared a surprise. I wait long, arrives and tells me. "Accidents" the surprise remained in the house of his puzzled ... I have no doubt, but tant'è..Arriviamo home and see the changes, a new piece of furniture in our camera..chiedo and He tells me that he needed spazio..i drawers were empty but still do not understand. Ok, go out for shopping, open the closet and find a cabinet piccolo..lo more open and rest incredulos, within a scroll written in cinese..attendo falling, ask me and says I am a Buddhist! I laugh, I grimaced and wonder what it means, how it could have become Buddhist, in such a short time and without telling me. Then I take a step back in the memory and remember that before leaving we were along with a colleague to whom he asked: "Is it true that you're a Buddhist?" The fellow began to tell, and I heard, but not giving weight, but I thought I saw him interested curiosità..poi home I was asked what I thought, I joked about how my usual and a little pissed too, but there you are. They had already arranged everything. When I began to ask how it was possible that in a few weeks he had abandoned his belief for which he was moved, and they had already been awarded the title of a member with its gonzhon his answers were aggressive and the usual, do not understand anything, do the wiseacre This is the real fede..Non knew the soka Gakkai and I felt actually guilty for not understanding his faith, the rest was me in not having any defect. I left puzzled and angry. The secret was a telling sign that something was not working. And in fact, he knew that I am a person who wants the truth at all costs and that delves deeply before accepting it. Began the lies, was increasingly distant, he told me to be at work and was with them until the day that I was ill, physically, very, I needed him.Disappears, cry and not capisco.per case the part and feel the call to a phone that never stopped haunting litany in TRETS, in secret, he is given that he had no money and I discovered more sure that all travel and accommodation had cost a lot, they had sent him making him feel invested with a fundamental role, as when they did present a marriage ceremony between members. I began to no longer exist. One night when I try to move the gohonzon from the bedroom, it throws with violence on the ground, as if I was profaning it with my hands. More and more pieces. I can tell, I find that he did shakubuku to his friend with serious problems, separate, loss of vision and work, I get angry too because I realized that they did the same about him, was in serious trouble with the bank, a debt huge ... I understood that the purpose of the play was to solve the problem, so much so that one day I ask him to buy a scratch card and he replies that still is not the time, he had not played enough. Things fall, I am more and more confused, I love him so much that between anger and tears I try to talk, ask him to read with me, but the answer is always the same, it is all a plot, are the priests of Shoshu or I follow the law, not man. My God, I have no way out, saying that I do not understand it, you will understand it when it is too late. I write an email to a senior member of his group for help, convinced that he is having trouble, the story of violence in my comrade of lies etc, I am told that I could not handle my love, who is now my partner surrounded by about fifty people including young and old, who love him and he with them is perfect, so I'm the problem, I end the conversation with a "I wish you peace". He defines me. My head is spinning, between anger and injustice I continue to try to reach him. New Year. I was alone in my house, he is pissed for the letter written to his capo... It is a difficult pill to swallow but he tells me that he had a vow to fulfill and to wait at home . I accept just to be with him. I leave home, it's ten, I guess it will take a half hour. Eleven thirty, he turned off the phone, I leave the house, I do not have the keys and do not know where to go, it's snowing, I sit under a tree to wait and try to continually call, cry, and tremble. I hear the fireworks from the town and I cry even more. At one he calls me and tells me I'm coming. I see that does not come from the part of the wood but the land, tells me he has been around but it's impossible, it takes me in his arms because they are almost frozen to death and put me to bed. While in the bathroom I take his phone and I discover that he was at his brother's house and toasting at midnight. You can not understand the searing pain. I'm going home tomorrow. Days pass, I forgive him, I come home with him, I am too much in love and I can not get out, stopped by reason or sentiment. I keep trying to talk, I find the zaimu newsletters, books and so much more. I find that he did shakubuku zaimu to a man of sixty who had ischemia, lost his job and his woman. I get angry even more, I say that is vile, disgusting, that it sucks, that they are vultures. He beats me and tells me crying that I must apologize, I have to go with him, I have to play [SGI] ... Since then, we have not seen. I still suffer a lot and I am fighting for the truth to come out. I put my signature because I have always believed in and fought and always will, and its fair to do so without fear of anyone." -- Margherita Manconi.

The Kanzakis in Italy are not nice people

"You have no idea what I suffered in this association. My name is Stella, I teach letters to San Donato, where the Kanzaki family lived but left some time ago here for mysterious reasons. The Kanzakis are high level SGI leaders for all of Italy. But they literally suck at the human level. In 1990 my best friend (Buddhist) committed suicide because she had psychological problems. I too was suicidal and asked for help for her and me from several members but they treated me very badly. I told them that we wanted to die but totally lacking compassion, Kanzaki avoided me. After she killed herself, I went to a psychologist. I was much better and again I went to Kanzaki to ask for his help for my friends daughter who was entering in the sixth grade. Feeling for her, I asked for help but in return I received insults, malice and mockery. So much so that I then reported the Kanzaki family to the Carabininieri [police] of San Donato. I have many other things to say against this sect."

"Sensei di qua", "Sensei di la", "Sensei ha fatto questo", "Sensei ha fatto quello", "Sensei dice cosi",

but nothing about Shakyamuni Buddha nor Nichiren Daishonin.

This ten year former SGI member never saw a glimpse of humane behavior

Hi,
I have been in this practice for more ten years and as rightly said, the sgi is a big gimmick. The leaders are so much into themselves that I haven’t ever seen a glimpse of humane behavior, compassion or humanity in them. I now decided to leave the SGI group and pray on my own. The practice which was initiated by Daishonin has not only got diluted but the essence of it totally lost and what is replaced is dictatorship. The leaders are so unconcerned about the existing members and are there making new members. Its like more of any networking group rather than bring about peace to the society. I feel so good to have left the politics of the sgi and its leaders but am unsure if I should give back the Gohonzon. if someone can help me on that , it would be great.

thanks

District Full of Rebels

#13 | Written by BooBoo about 18 months ago.

Dear michaelmichael,

I’m really sorry to hear your experience. I was wondering what region you are practicing in because it sounds a bit like the LA Beach Cities Region. I’ve been practicing for over 40 years and had many frustrating experiences of misguided, ill-trained leaders pushing pubs, contribution, and meeting attendance on new members and youth. Unfortunately, fanatics are hard to avoid in any religious organization.

Fortunately, in our local district, it is a warm, friendly and family like environment full of rebels who won’t take crap from overbearing leaders. They do watch us closely however, but can’t seem to deny our success. Practicing Buddhism in a natural, friendly and and open way seems to work for us. I guess our only way to change the SGI organization is from our district outward. I have good friends all over the country who always support my practice and encourage me no matter what. Most of them are rebels too.

I hope you keep practicing whether in or out of the organization in a way that best suits you. Someday, I hope the leaders will be willing to face the truth and realize the true condition of our organization has everything to do with incompetent leadership and NOT whats wrong with people who decide to leave SGI.

I love rubbing Soka Gakkai's sorry noses in their own BS

Famous and oft recreated 13th century painting of Nichiren on his deathbed surrounded by his disciples. It shows Nichiren lying in front of a Gohonzon.... Yikes! Oooh! Slander! The Gohonzon is not in a Butsudan!

Question: What happened to the six foot tall five hundred pound DaiGohonzon, "the reason for Nichiren's advent in the world"?*
Answer: They were hiding it in Nichiren's two hundred square foot hut.

*According to Fuji School [SGI/NST] theology"

Nichiren on why we surpass other bodhisattvas

"But the great bodhisattvas as numerous as the dust particles of a thousand worlds who emerged from the earth have first of all lived in this sahā world for an incalculably long period of time; second, they have been disciples of Shakyamuni Buddha since the far distant past, when he first set his mind on and attained enlightenment; and third, these bodhisattvas were the first persons in the sahā world to receive the seed of Buddhahood from the Buddha. Therefore, in terms of the bonds of karma from the past that tie them to the sahā world, they surpass the other great bodhisattvas."

Bizarro SGI top Senior Leader

Why does SGI/NST say the Lotus Sutra has lost its power yet they chant "Devotion to the Sutra of the Lotus Flower of the Wonderful Dharma?"

According to Nichiren, "All the other Buddhas of the ten directions are followers of Shakyamuni" [except SGI "Buddhas"]

"Again, if we consider the question of how long it has been since these various Buddhas attained the fruit of Buddhahood, then we will find that there are some who became Buddhas ten kalpas ago, others a hundred kalpas or a thousand kalpas ago. But in the case of Shakyamuni Buddha, the lord of teachings, it has already been a period of numberless major world system dust particle kalpas since he became a Buddha of perfect enlightenment and complete reward. The Thus Come One Mahāvairochana, the Thus Come One Amida, the Thus Come One Medicine Master, and all the other Buddhas of the ten directions are followers of Shakyamuni, the lord of teachings and our original teacher. He is like the moon in the sky that is reflected in ten thousand different bodies of water."

Correcting a very confused Nichiren Shoshu member

"Of course, since these are secret transmissions received by only a single person, there is no reason to expect that we would understand their contents. Fifty-sixth High Priest Nichio Shonin as well stated, "Even at the time of Kosen-rufu, the specific lifeblood bequeathal documents are not to be perused by others." (Research and Education Books, Vol. 27, p. 456) He instructs us that the specific bequeathal of the entity of the Law is a secret transmission which others are not permitted to peruse. We must obediently receive the High Priest's instruction, which accords with the times, and advance in the faith and practice of the attainment of Buddhahood." -- A very confused Nichiren Shoshu member

"Thereupon the unenlightened man said: “In truth, as I listen to your description of the doctrine, I can see that, even if the Nembutsu teaching could in fact lead one to rebirth in the Pure Land, its observances and practices are very difficult to carry out. And of course, since the sutras and treatises upon which it is based all belong to the category of provisional expositions, it is perfectly clear that it can never lead to rebirth in the Pure Land. But surely there is no reason to repudiate the True Word teachings. The Mahāvairochana Sutra constitutes the secret teaching of Mahāvairochana, the King of Enlightenment. It has been handed down in an unbroken line of transmission from the Thus Come One Mahāvairochana to Shan-wu-wei and Pu-k’ung. And in Japan the Great Teacher Kōbō spread the teachings concerning the mandalas of the Diamond Realm and the Womb Realm. These are secret and arcane teachings that concern the thirty-seven honored ones. Therefore, the most profound doctrines of the exoteric teachings cannot compare even to the elementary stages of the esoteric teachings. Hence the Great Teacher Chishō of Gotō-in temple stated in his commentary, ‘Even the Lotus Sutra cannot compare [to the Mahāvairochana Sutra], much less the other doctrines.’ Now what is your view on this matter?”

The sage replied: “At first I too placed my trust in the Thus Come One Mahāvairochana and desired to carry out the teachings of the True Word school. But when I investigated the basic doctrines of the school, I found that they are founded on views that in fact are a slander of the correct teaching. -- Nichiren

"The men of the Zen school, taking advantage of this situation, pronounced themselves observers of the precepts, deceiving the eyes of the people and putting on such lofty airs that, no matter what false doctrines they presumed in their madness to put forward, these doctrines were not recognized as erroneous.

This school called Zen claims to represent a “separate transmission outside the sutras,” which was not revealed by Shakyamuni Buddha in the numerous sutras preached during his lifetime but was whispered in secret to the Venerable Mahākāshyapa. Thus the proponents of this school maintain that, if one studies the various sutras without understanding the teachings of the Zen school, one will be like a dog trying to bite at a clap of thunder or a monkey grasping at the moon’s reflection in the water.

Zen is a false doctrine that appeals to the kind of people in Japan who have been abandoned by their fathers and mothers because of their lack of filial devotion or dismissed from service by their lords because of their outrageous conduct, to young priests who are too lazy to apply themselves to their studies, and to the disreputable nature of courtesans. Even though its followers have all embraced the precepts, they are no more than swarming locusts feeding upon the people of the nation. That is why heaven glares down in anger and the gods of the earth shudder.

The True Word school is a far greater source of trouble than the other two schools I have discussed above, a major form of error, and I would therefore like to discuss it in outline here." -- Nichiren

and

"The Zen school is divided into two branches. One branch maintains that all the various sutras and all the profound doctrines of the various schools are included in the Zen school. The other branch holds that all the sacred teachings put forward by the Thus Come One in the course of his lifetime are so many words and explanations, mere expedient devices emerging from the mouth of the Thus Come One. The Zen school, by contrast, represents the secret intention of the Thus Come One, which has never been put into words or explanations. It constitutes a “separate transmission outside the sutras.” -- Nichiren

"When Sensei came in 1990, everything became clear." -- SGI leader

Namu Myoho renge kyo and Gohonzon are not sufficient?

For this reason alone, they are forgeries fabricated by slanderers and revered by the Soka Gakkai.

Myoho renge kyo proclaims itself "Wonderful Law". The True Aspect of all Phenomena [Shoho Jisso Sho Gosho] and the Record of the Orally Transmitted Teachings [Ongi Kuden] proclaim Myoho renge kyo "the Buddha".

"The moment Sensei arrived a rainbow appeared" -- gushing SGI member

"...They worked such wonders as these, which made them too proud and self-conceited, piling up seeds of illusions. Referring to this, Grand Master T'ien-t'ai stated: 'Seeking fame and profit, they increased illusions in thinking and desire.' Priest Kuang-che (Fa-yun) could cause it to rain instantly or shower flowers by giving lectures on the Lotus Sutra. Yet Grand Master Miao-lo said of him, 'It does not fit the teaching of the Lotus Sutra to show such wonders.' "-- Repaying Debts of Gratitude

TIME Magazine November 20, 1995 Volume 146, No. 21

"A mob of Soka Gakkai members, marched into the Kaishinji temple during a religious service. Shoving aside worshippers, they seized Yahiro and Kashiwazaki. I thought I was going to die, recalls Yahiro, an asthmatic. He almost did. A large man grabbed Yahiro by his necktie and lifted him off the floor, and others took turns punching him until he passed out."

SGI members are slanderers of the Law who pretend to be models of compassion

"The Great Teacher Nan-yueh in his Shi Anrakugyo states, ‘If there should be a bodhisattva who protects evil persons and fails to chastise them... then when his life comes to an end, he will fall into hell along with those evil persons. '"The meaning of this passage is that, if a practitioner of Buddhism should fail to chastise evil persons who slander the Law but give himself up entirely to meditation and contemplation, not attempting to distinguish between correct or incorrect doctrines, provisional or true teachings, but rather pretending to be a model of compassion, then such a person will fall into the evil paths along with the other doers of evil. Now a person who fails to correct Shingon, Nembutsu, Zen and Ritsu adherents who are slanderers of the Law and instead pretends to be a model of compassion will meet just such a fate as this."

"And so to unbelieving persons, rouse them to accept this Law. By so doing, young men of good family, you will acquit your debt to the Tathagatas." Lotus Sutra, Chapter 27, page 440, translated by Kern

They are like the icchantikas who "do not hear, do not believe, and cannot discriminate." (Great Nirvana Sutra: T.12.724c7 = T. 12.481 b27-28)

They will join their discarded "Gohonzons" in hell.

Point 1: Who authorized all those worthless Nichiren Shoshu "Gohonzons" that were distributed to more than 500,000 SGI-USA members and how many remain? 7000-8000 tops? Where are they now?

Point 2Who teaches of the worthlessness of the 128 extant Nichiren Gohonzons? The Nichiren Shoshu and the Soka Gakkai. They will join their discarded "Gohonzons" in hell.

The Nichiren Shoshu blames the Gakkai for everything. Who printed up those 500,000 Gohonzons? The Nichiren Shoshu, of course. The Nichiren Shoshu and SGI criticize the Nichiren Shu, the Kempon Hokke, and the HBS for disrespecting Gohonzon for putting pictures of  Gohonzon on the web but their "real" Gohonzon are treated like dirt. The fact is, the other Nichiren sects and Independents respect Gohonzon far more than the Nichiren Shoshu and the Soka Gakkai. More than 90% of Gohonzon bestowed by the other sects and Independents are protected and enshrined and not thrown into the garbage or rolled up in sock draws.

Forgeries, stupidity, and a lack of faith in Namu Myoho renge kyo

"This Heritage and the essential matters of the Gohonzon are documents of the transmission of the Law from Nichiren to the successive Master of the Seat of the Law. They concern the transmission bestowed at the treasure tower, the transmission of the Heritage of the Law exclusively from one to the next." --Hon'ninmyo Sho, Gosho Zenshu, p. 887)

FORGERY Not in Nikko's hand and runs contrary to everything written in Nikko's authentic works.

"I have appointed Byakuren Ajari Nikko as the So-kanzu, the general chief priest, and transfer the entirety and every detail of the true doctrine of Nichiren. The top senior priests down to every disciple must regard each of the successive High Priests transferred from Nikko to each in succession to be the So-kanzu, general chief priest, without any opposition as in this time for throughout eternity in the future. FORGERY Not in Nichiren's hand. Not accepted by Priests or scholars of any school or independents except for the Nichiren Shoshu.

"We, ourselves, cannot produce the Gohonzon. Since it's the enlightened entity of Nichiren Daishonin, **no one** has the authority **other than the successive high priests** who have been the **sole heirs to the heritage of the True Law**. We take no part in this. Therefore, the objects of worship inscribed by those in the Butsuryu and Minobu factions [of the Nichiren sect] are absolutely powerless. They are worthless because they are fake. In fact, they contain the power of evil spirits. That is why they are dangerous." -- Josei Toda, Daibyaku Renge, 98, p. 98.

STUPIDITY based on FORGERIES and lack of faith in Namu Myoho renge kyo.

"Members of the Minobu school of the Nichiren sect chant daimoku. They have the Gosho Their recitation of the sutra also includes the Hoben and Juryo chapters. And, in the Shoshinkai, which consists of ex-priests of Nichiren Shoshu , and the portions of the sutra they recite and the daimoku that they chant are identical to the practice we observe. Though their religion may seem the same as ours, they lack the **single, unbroken heritage of the law recieved directly** from Nichiren Daishonin. If one's faith is not based on this line of

**inheritance**, it is worthless to embrace any Gohonzon, for no benefit will be forthcoming. That is to say, "Without the lifeblood of faith, it would be useless to embrace the Lotus Sutra." -- Daisaku Ikeda, Buddhism in Action, vol 3, p 254

STUPIDITY based on FORGERIES and lack of faith in Namu Myoho renge kyo

"The Dai-Gohonzon of the high sanctuary of true Buddhism at the Nichiren Shoshu head temple, Taiseki-ji, is the basis of all Gohonzons. The Gohonzon, which we are allowed to recieve so that we can pray in our own homes, can be inscribed **only** by one of the m**successive high priests who inherit the true lineage** of Nichiren Shoshu." -- Daisaku Ikeda, Buddhism in Action, vol. 1, pg. 21

"It goes without saying that our Soka Gakkai is an organization of Nichiren Shoshu believers. Therefore, worshipping the Dai-Gohonzon and serving the high priest is the **fundamental** spirit of the Gakkai." Daisaku Ikeda, Inaugural address of president Ikeda, 1960

STUPIDITY based on FORGERIES and lack of faith in Namu Myoho renge kyo

"Needless to say, the Dai-Gohonzon of the high sanctuary inscribed for all mankind is the most **fundamental** basis of the movement for the Nichiren Shoshu Soka Gakkai [they have since changed the name to SGI]. The Dai-Gohonzon has been preserved and handed down within Nichiren Shoshu from the founder, Nichiren Daishonin, to his successor, Nikko Shonin, and then to the third high priest, Nichimoku Shonin, up to the present 67th high priest, Nikken Shonin. I hope, therefore, that we will courageously dedicate ourselves to studying Nichiren Daishonin's teachings in order to deepen our faith and to propagation true Buddhism in each country or community, as we follow the high priest's guidance, and respect the traditions and doctrines of Nichiren Shoshu." -- Daisaku Ikeda, Buddhism in Action, vol 1, p 33

Namu Gosho?

SGI leaders claim the Gosho is the Lotus Sutra of the modern age. If that is so, why do they chant Nam Myoho renge kyo [Nam Lotus Sutra] instead of Nam Gosho? What about the Human Revolution that other SGI leaders claim is the Gosho of the modern age? If that is the so, why do they quote Nichiren's Gosho to make doctrinal points and not the Human Revolution?

Senior Leader sweating profusely though smiling broadly

Member: I've been reading the Gosho.
Senior Leader: Oh, very good.
Member: It says in many Gosho that we should revere the Gohonzon as the Ceremony in the Air, the transmission of the Daimoku from Buddha Shakyamuni of the Juryo Chapter of the Lotus Sutra to the Bodhisattvas of the Earth. Could you expound upon this and why do we worship the Gohonzon as the life of Nichiren Daishonin?
Senior Leader: Thats a very good question. Although it is true that that is taught in the Gosho, President Ikeda explains that what is vitally important is that we do our human revolution so that we can realize our happiness and the happiness of others. We do this by chanting Nam Myoho renge kyo to the Gohonzon. This is what the Daishonin meant.
Member: I'm not sure that you answered my question. Why do we consider the Daishonin to be the True Buddha when he refers over and over to Shakyamuni Buddha as the Original Eternal Buddha. If we need to have the same mind as Nichiren to become happy, it seems to me, having the mind of Nichiren as True Buddha is having a different mind than he. I'm confused.
Senior Leader: Please don't worry about it. What's important is to continue to practice with your fellow SGI members alongside Sensei. By following Sensei's guidance, you will overcome your difficulties and become happy. Buddhahood is a state of life full of energy, compassion, and good fortune. It's impossible to imagine right now what our life will be in twenty or thirty years. If you observe a tree for six months or a year, you will not notice how much it has grown but after twenty years you will see that it has grown into a magnificent tree that can withstand even a hurricane. Your question about Shakyamuni is interesting but as Sensei teaches, the Lotus Sutra and Shakyamuni Buddha have lost their power in Mappo. Since we are practicing with the same faith as the Daishonin, you can be sure that you are practicing correctly and will realize many benefit.
Member: Then why did the Daishonin teach that the cause of misfortune was abandoning the Lotus Sutra and Shakyamuni Buddha?
Senior Leader sweating profusely though smiling broadly: We are running out of time and I'm sure we have others who have questions. Why don't you ask Joe Bob your Chapter Chief who just came back from a training session in Japan. I'm sure he can answer all your questions.
Another member: I've been chanting for 6 years. How do I balance my hectic daily life with my activities as a junior group chief.
Senior Leader, [with a sigh of relief] ........

The second Great Secret Law in terms of the person

Hokyo hoju ji  [WEALTH IS SLIGHT; THE DHARMA IS IMPORTANT]

I have received the hundred bamboo shoots and the one sack of sweet potatoes which you sent. In the seventh [fascicle] of the Sutra of Lotus Flower of the Sublime Dharma (Myoho renge kyo) it says, "If again there should be a person who, filling a great trichiliocosm with the seven jewels, makes offering to the Buddha as well as Pratyekabuddhas and Arhats, the merit which that person obtains is not as much as that very greatest merit (good fortune) of receiving and even one four-line verse of this Dharma Flower Sutra (Hokekyo)".

In [fascicle] ten of the Line Commentary Mongu) it says, "When it says that to offer the seven jewels to the Four Saints is not as good as keeping one verse it is that the Dharma is the teacher of the Four Saints. As that which produces, that which nurtures, that which achieves (accomplishes), that which prospers [Enlightenment] there is nothing that surpasses the Dharma. Therefore, the person is slight; the Dharma is important."

In [fascicle] ten of the Notes (Ki) it says, "It is as when a father and mother must guard their child with the four protections: now in the case of giving rise to the mind [of Enlightenment], its deriving from the Dharma he regards as producing (giving birth), pursuing it from beginning to end he regards as nurturing, fulfilling the Ultimate Effect [Buddhahood] he regards as achieving, responding to the Dharma Realms [as a Buddha] he regards as prospering. Although the four are not the same, they take the Dharma as their basis (root)."

The sense of the Sutra, as well as of Tendai and Myoraku. is that receiving and keeping or guarding and keeping one verse of the Dharma Flower Sutra is superior to making offering to all beings, making offering to Arhats, or making offering to all Buddhas by filling up a great trichiliocosm with the wealth of the seven jewels. In the Sutra it says, "It is not as much as that very greatest merit (good fortune) of receiving even one four-line verse of this Dharma Flower Sutra (Hokekyo)". Tendai says, "The person is slight; the Dharma is important." Myoraku says, "Although the four are not the same, they take the Dharma as their basis (root)." When we calculate this, relating all the beings of the nine realms to the Buddha, the good fortune (merit) of all beings is as light as a hair and the Buddha's good fortune (merit) is like a great mountain; the good fortune (merit) of all the Buddhas is as light as the three ounce robes of the Deva Brahma and the weight of good fortune (merit) of one character of the Dharma Flower Sutra is as heavy as the great earth. When they say, "The person is slight" they call the Buddha "the person'; when they say, "The Dharma is important", it is the Dharma Flower Sutra.

Now the Sutras before the Dharma Flower Sutra as well as the treatises praising the merits of the Buddha are the Buddha; this Dharma Flower Sutra praised the merits of the Sutra: it is like the father and mother of the Buddha. The inferiority of the Flower Garland Sutra (Kegongyo), the Vairocana Sutra (Dainichikyo), and so on is like one hair to a great mountain or like three ounces to the great earth.

And even when one compares the very lowest practitioner of the Hokekyo with the very highest monk of the Kegon or Shingon, they are superior and inferior like the Emperor Shakra and a monkey or a lion and a dog. Moreover, when a commoner curses a king, it is worth his life, when the practices of the [other] Sutras say they are superior to the Practicioner of the Dharma Flower Sutra, the country must necessarily be destroyed and they enter hell.

When there are no enemies, one pretends not to know; for example, even Masakado and Sadato, when there were no Sadamori or Yoriyoshi, administered their provinces and their wives and children were peaceful and secure and so on. When there are no enemies, dew rises up to the sky and rain falls to earth; at the time of an adverse wind the rain rises up to the sky and when the sun emerges the dew falls to earth. So the Six Sects of the Kegon and so on, when there was no Dengyo Daishi, were like dew and the Shingon was also like this. You should think that if strong enemies appear and I attack them with the Dharma Flower Sutra, even the Abbot of Hieizan, of Toji, of the Omuro, so on will be like dew meeting the sun.

In the case of the Dharma Flower Sutra for more than two thousand two hundred years there has not yet been a person who has preached completely and spread it in accordance with the Sutra. It is not that Tendai and Dengyo did not know, but since the time had not arrived and the capacities were not there, they ended without writing [about it] completely. The people who become disciples of Nichiren will easily know [about it]. Within the whole of Jambudvipa there is not yet a hall or stupa (pagoda) where they have written or made the form or image of the Shakya Buddha of the Chapter of the Measure of Life (Juryo hen) of the Original Doctrine (Hommon) of the Dharma Flower Sutra. How could it not be revealed? Because it is extensive, I will stop.

The bamboo Shoots [you sent] are one hundred and twenty and in [after] more than two thousand years the Dharma Flower Sutra is revealed. It is because. although the donation was slight, the intention was important. At the present time be it with agricultural matters or with constructing the shrine the common people have no free time at all. Because your intention is profound, will the Dharma [now] be revealed?

Respectfully.
The eleventh day of the Fifth Month
Nichiren

Answer to Lord Nishiyama

In this Gosho, Nichiren Daishonin talks extensively about the superiority of the Dharma over the Buddha. Yet, he states in his concluding sentences:

"...Within the whole of Jambudvipa there is not yet a hall or stupa (pagoda) where they have written or made the form or image of the Shakya Buddha of the Chapter of the Measure of Life (Juryo hen) of the Original Doctrine (Hommon) of the Dharma Flower Sutra. How could it not be revealed?..."

Question: Is Nichiren Daishonin inconsistent? It seems as if he is contradicting himself.
Answer: Shakya Buddha of the Chapter of the Measure of Life IS the Dharma of the Lotus Flower Sutra. It is the second Great Secret Law in terms of the person, Shakyamuni Buddha.

"The true object of worship should be the Buddha at the moment of this transmission..." - Nichiren

"A Stupa of treasures is hanging in the sky above the Saha-World of the Eternal Buddha. The letters of myo ho reng kyo are seen in the center of the Stupa. On either side of the letters are seen Buddha Sakyamuni and the Many-Treasures Buddha. Buddha Sakyamuni is accompanied by the four Bodhisattvas and Manjusri and Maitreya are sitting in the lower seats. All the other Bodhisattvas, including those taught by the historical Buddha Sakyamuni and those who have come from the other worlds of the ten quarters are also on the ground. This shows that these Buddhas are the manifestations of the Eternal Buddha Shakyamuni and that the worlds of theirs are the manifestations of the Saha-World of the Eternal Buddha Shakyamuni. We should worship all these Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in this arrangement. This is the Honzon, or the true object of worship. This Honzon was not revealed during the lifetime of the Buddha except when he expounded the eight consecutive chapters (XV to XXII) of the Lotus Sutra."-- Kanjin Honzon  Sho, NOPPA Translation

Nichiren says in "Reply to Lady Nichinyo":

I for the first time reveal, as a banner of the spread of the Hokkekyo the Great Mandala which even Nagarjuna, Vasubandhu, and so on, and Tendai, Myoraku, and so on did not reveal. This is not at all something which I, Nichiren made myself. It is the Object of Worship which is from the print block of the Great Muni, the World Honored One within the Stupa of Taho and the Separate-Body Buddhas.

From the Kaimoku Sho:

"All the sects except the Tendai Sect worship wrong objects. The Kusha, Jojitsu, and Ritsu Sects worship Buddha Shakyamuni regarded as the person who eliminated illusions and attained enlightenment for the first time under the Bodhi Tree. They are as wrong as a crown prince who thinks that he is the son of a subject. The Kegon, Shingon, Sanron and Hosso Sects are Mahayana. The Hosso and Sanron Sects worship Buddha Shakyamuni as defined in the provisional Mahayana. They are as wrong as a crown prince who thinks that he is the son of a military officer. The Kegon and Shingon Sects despise Buddha Shakyamuni and worship Buddha Vairocana. They are as wrong as a prince who deserts his father and follows another king of unknown ancestry. The Jodo Buddhists hold that Buddha Amitabha is their Buddha, and do not worship Buddha Shakyamuni. They do not know that Buddha Amitabha is one of the manifestations of Buddha Shakyamuni. The Zen Buddhists are like a man of low birth who criticizes his parents when he gets some position in society. They despise the Buddhas and sutras. All these sects worship wrong objects. In ancient times people did not know their fathers. They were like birds and beasts. They do not know the favors of Buddha Shakyamuni." The sects who do not know the Chapter of the Duration of the Life of the Tathagata in the Lotus Sutra are like beasts. They do not know the favors of Buddha Shakyamuni."

In the Kanjin-honzon-sho it says:

"During the fifty years of his teaching from the time of his enlightenment under the Bodhi tree till hisParinirvana under the Salatree, the Buddha expounded many sutras. In these sutras he described a wide variety of pure lands, such as the Pure Land of Flower-Store, the Pure Land of Esoteric Adornment, the Pure Land of Three Transformations, the Pure Land of Peaceful Life, and the Pure Land of Emerald. These pure lands are either the abodes of the followers of the Lesser Vehicle, or of the partially-enlightened Bodhisattvas, or of the perfectly enlightened Bodisattvas.

These pure lands are, however, impermanent. They are established on in the kalpa of composition. The expounder of these sutras is the historical Buddha, and the Buddhas of these pure lands are the manifestations of the historical Buddha. Therefore, when the historical Buddha enters into Parinirvana, the Buddhas of these pure lands pass away, and their pure lands also disappear. But the Saha-World of the Original Buddha is the eternal pure land, free from the three calamities and the four kalpas. In this eternal world the Buddha never disappeared in the past, nor is to appear in the future. All living beings under him are one with him because they have the wisdom of the Buddha in their minds."

He also states in this same work...

"During the fifty years of his teaching from the time of his enligtenment under the bo-tree till his attainment of Nirvana under the Sala-tree, the Buddha expounded a great number of sutras. ... Buddha Shakyamuni as the expounder of these sutras is not eternal, because the eternity of the Buddha is for the first time revealed in the latter half of the [Lotus Sutra]....In this (saha) world, the Buddha is eternal, has never been extinct, nor is to be reborn... The Buddha made no mention of this truth in the first half of the [Lotus Sutra], because he had not yet found hearers intelligent enough to understand it.

"This truth is embodied in the five Words, or rather in the Seven Words, Na-mu-myo-ren-ge-kyo, or 'The Most Honorable Lotus of the Perfect Truth,' which also means 'Adoration be to the Lotus of the Perfect Truth' when taken as the formula of invocation. The Five Words being the expression of the most profound teaching of the buddha, the Buddha didn't entrust them even to the hitherto most repected Bodisattvas ... instead, he transmitted them to the Bodhisattvas equal to the dust-atoms of one thousand worlds in number who appeared from the gaps of the earth for the first time in the fifteenth chapter of the [Lotus Sutra].

"The true object of worship should be the Buddha at the moment of this transmission. ...

"In history, however, no one has ever worshipped the Buddha as revealed in this scene. ... an image of the true object of worship is destined to appear for the first time at the beginning of the Period of Deprivation."

3 tons of TNT for every man woman and child on earth and only Namu myoho renge kyo can lead us away from our own destruction.

Daisaku Ikeda's nuclear disarmament proposals have had about as much influence as used toilet paper or God. Gorbachev likens the new cold war to a "bloody festering wound" and Russia's pal China has enough MIRV [Multiple Independent Reentry Vehicles] delivery systems to destroy half our land based silos and, at least, our hundred largest cities. Russia has at least 5000 warheads, 3000 of which are as powerful as 10 or more megatons [equal to at least four hundred billion tons of TNT or 3 tons of TNT for every man woman and child on earth]. The US arsenal is nearly as large, if not larger [because who really knows?]. To make matters worse, we have a war monger Congress and Senate, a warring bellicose Putin, and we are looking at the kings of war mongers, Hillary Clinton or the Republican chicken hawks becoming president and "turning the desert into glass. . NATO is putting up "electric nuclear powered fences" and plans on going ahead with their plan to place missiles all around the grizzly's home in Poland and the Baltics and the grizzly is mean and irritable. Fuggettabout an asteroid, Japan, or Yellowstone exploding. Worry about nuclear bombs accidentally or purposefully exploding.  Anger, avarice, and stupidity have penetrated so deeply that only Namu Myo renge kyo can lead us away from our own destruction.

SGI's principle "Buddhist" practice

Ikedabuku

Setting one's mind on the attainment of perfect and true enlightenment

"Persons who do not fully understand this sutra, the Lotus, look at passages in the sutra that say that, if one reads the sutra, one will be reborn in the human or heavenly realms; they look at passages that speak of going to the Tushita heaven or the heaven of the thirty-three gods; or they look at passages that speak of rebirth in [Amida’s] land of Peace and Sustenance; and they suppose that though one may practice the teachings of the Lotus Sutra in this impure land of ours, and though its principles may be very admirable, one cannot hope thereby to reach the stage where there is no more regression in one’s progress to enlightenment. So they assert that one must continue to be reborn again and again for long ages in this impure land, hoping for the dawn of [Maitreya’s] appearance some 5,670 million years in the future; or they claim that, when one is reborn in the realm of animals or that of human beings, the process of rebirth blots out all memory of previous existences and hence one can never put an end to one’s sufferings. Still others object that the Lotus Sutra represents a type of self-empowered religious practice and hence is very difficult to carry out.

Errors of this kind in all likelihood come from a failure to distinguish between the two roads to salvation, that put forward in the sutras prior to the Lotus and that of the Lotus. Persons who propound such views not only lead themselves astray into the darkness of delusion, but they blind the Buddha eye of all living beings."

Nichiren goes on to say...

"But according to the teachings of the Lotus Sutra, the Tushita heaven is to be counted among the lands of the Buddhas of the ten directions, the Western Paradise too is none other than one of the lands of the Buddhas of the ten directions, and the realms of human and heavenly beings are none other than such lands. When the Lotus Sutra addresses evil persons, it speaks of the evil that is a part of the Ten Worlds, and assures them that, since evil persons too are endowed with the five types of vision, even the most evil of all persons are capable of being saved. When it addresses women, it assures them that women are endowed with the Ten Worlds and that women in any of the Ten Worlds can attain Buddhahood. So long as one, through the Lotus Sutra, sets one’s mind on the attainment of perfect and true enlightenment, one can never be dragged back into the nine realms of unenlightened existence by the power of karma."

The Buddha and Nichiren converted their parents.

Why not Daisaku Ikeda?

Failing to make distinctions

"When teachers of the Flower Garland school come to interpret the passage in the Flower Garland Sutra that reads, “The mind, the Buddha, and all living beings—these three are without distinction,” they take it to refer to three things, the one mind [of the individual], the enlightenment [of the Buddha], and the lack of enlightenment [of living beings]. In interpreting this passage, they are borrowing the terminology found originally in The Awakening of Faith in the Mahayana.

The Great Teacher Nan-yüeh in his interpretation of the two words “wonderful” and “Law” in the title, the Lotus Sutra of the Wonderful Law, borrows this same passage from the Flower Garland Sutra and takes it to be referring to the wonderful nature of the three elements [living beings, Buddha, and mind]. The Great Teacher T’ien-t’ai Chih-che adopts the same interpretation." -- Nichiren

The mistaken interpretations of the SGI and the Zen School can be traced back to the way in which they interpret such passages of the earlier Sutras. They are no different than the teachers of the Flower Garland School who misinterpret the above passage of the Flower Garland Sutra to mean that there are no distinctions between the unenlightened mind, the enlightened mind, the Buddha, and all living beings. The lack of distinction refers to their wonderful nature or Myoho, not to their phenomenal aspect. Distinctions and non-distinctions are two aspects of the fundamental Law of Myoho. To fail to make distinctions, to fail to point out errors of thoughts and desires, mistaken teachings, and evil men, is to abandon the teaching appropriate for this defiled age.

Analysis of Taisekeji's uberplank by Richard Torgerson

I've now shown that every argument currently in the various threads discussing the validity or lack therefore of the Dai Gohonzon rely upon well known tricks of logical fallacy to hold them together.

In response to this, one correspondent (I think Cody) replies that he doesn't care, they would start Kosen Rufu without me. Roy's reply is to start a new thread titled "the fallacy of being a pedantic little cunt". I can understand the frustration and anger. It's certainly a difficult thing indeed when someone shows your belief system to be fundamentally invalid. I feel your pain.

In a message to Roy, I promised that I would lay out my reasons for believing the Dai Gohonzon to be an invalid artifact, at least according to the descriptions given by Nichiren Shoshu. (I do admit however, that it is in fact a perfectly valid piece of wood, having all of the necessary and sufficient conditions of being wood-like.)

Some of the following will seem familiar, because they are extracted from previous posts to arbn. It's my intention to show how the Dai Gohonzon is invalid only by using statements made by Nichiren Shoshu and statements made in the Gosho, most of which were translated under Nichiren Shoshu auspices. There are two arguments being made here: (1) The Gosho does not support the NST description of the significance of the Dai Gohonzon and in fact directly refutes it; and (2) Nichiren Shoshu statements on the subject are contradictory and mutually exclusive, nullifying the legitimacy of their description of history.

We'll turn to (1), the fact that Nichiren Daishi's Gosho, penned in his own hand, specifically refutes Nichiren Shoshu's description of the significance of the Dai Gohonzon. Let's first establish what that description is.

In "The High Sanctuary of the Essential Teachings", a Nichiren Shoshu backgrounder found on Craig Bratcher's site here, the Dai Gohonzon is described:

"Although daishi inscribed many Gohonzons after the Tatsunokuchi persecution, the ultimate purpose of His appearance in the world was to establish the Dai-Gohonzon, which He inscribed on October 12, 1279. All the other Gohonzons He inscribed may be viewed as reflections of the Dai-Gohonzon. Therefore, the Dai-Gohonzon is the ultimate realization of the Object of Worship of the Essential Teachings."

Then it describes the High Sanctuary, concluding:

"the True High Sanctuary is the place where the Dai-Gohonzon is enshrined. This is called the True High Sanctuary because the Dai-Gohonzon of Namu-Myoho-Renge-Kyo manifested by Nichiren Daishi is the only object of worship that actually has the power to enable one to attain Buddhahood in one's present form."

and

"Second, the High Sanctuary may be viewed in terms of its overall significance. All other Gohonzons other than the Dai-Gohonzon are like leaves and branches in relation to their source, the Dai-Gohonzon. Their power also all flows from the Dai-Gohonzon. Therefore, the meaning of our exertions in faith and practice to the Gohonzon at our temple, community center, or home derives directly from the True High Sanctuary. Thus, the places where other Gohonzons are enshrined are said to possess the significance of the True High Sanctuary. One should never forget that if one's faith becomes cut off from the Dai-Gohonzon, then one has cut oneself off from the source of power for the attainment of Buddhahood. If this happens, faith and practice to the Gohonzon in one's own home has no
relation to the True High Sanctuary." This view is echoed by The Significance of the Heritage: the Ultimate Matter of Kechimyaku, by Reverend Jun'ei Anzawa and Reverend Hakudo Mori , found on the NST website here:

"Nichiren Daishi, the Original Buddha who appeared in the world in the defiled, evil age of the Latter Day of the Law, established the Dai-Gohonzon of the High Sanctuary of the Essential Teachings as the source for all people to attain enlightenment."

and..

"Thus the Lifeblood of faith in Nichiren Shoshu lies in the Dai- Gohonzon of
the High Sanctuary and in Nichiren Daishi's Heritage of the Law in the care of each of the successive High Priest. No matter how earnestly people practice Buddhism, if they err on this ultimate matter, not only will their practice bring no benefit, but they will ac***ulate "bad karma," that is, hindrances that occur due to slander of Buddhism. "

So here we have the argument established that the Dai-Gohonzon is unique in that it is the central Object of Worship in Mappo, and all other valid Gohonzon derive their power or ability to enlighten directly and exclusively from the Dai Gohonzon. The Dai Gohonzon is the singularly unique "source of power for the attainment of Buddhahood."

Nichiren Shoshu points to the particular Gosho "Opening the Eyes of Wooden and Painted Images" as the main justification for their point that only mandalas sanctioned by the current High Priest of Nichiren Shoshu are valid "Objects of Worship" or "Gohonzon". (Need a reference? It's frequently mentioned in that 100 Questions and Answers tract - I'll dig it up for you if you require it...)

Using the Nichiren Shoshu sanctioned and supervised translation of that particular Gosho we find a specific refutation of the notion of an uber-Gohonzon like the Ita Mandala.

In that Gosho, daishi tells us "The Buddha possesses thirty-two features. All
of them represent the physical aspect. Thirty-one of them, from the lowest, the markings of the thousand-spoked wheel on the sole of each foot, up to the unseen crown of his head, belong to the category of visible and non-coextensive physical existences. They can therefore be depicted in tangible form, such as pictures or statues. The remaining feature, the pure and far-reaching voice, belongs to the category of invisible and coextensive physical existences. It therefore cannot be captured either in a painting or in a wooden image. "

Yet Daishi also explains: "When the Lotus Sutra is placed before an image possessing thirty-one features, the image never fails to become the Buddha of the pure and perfect teaching." He then teaches that "The written words of the Lotus Sutra express in visible and non-coextensive form the Buddha’s pure and far-reaching voice, which is itself invisible and coextensive, and so possess the two physical aspects of color and form. The Buddha’s pure and far-reaching voice, which once vanished, has reappeared in the visible form of written words to benefit the people." Nichiren Daishi elaborates to make sure we get it:

"A person gives utterance to speech on two occasions. On one occasion, he does so to tell other people what he himself does not believe, in an effort to deceive them. His voice in this case "accords with others' minds." On the other, the person gives voice to what he truly has in mind. Thus his thoughts are expressed in his voice. The mind represents the spiritual aspect, and the voice, the physical aspect. The spiritual aspect manifests itself in the physical. A person can know another's mind by listening to his voice. This is because the physical aspect reveals the spiritual aspect. The physical and spiritual which are one in essence, manifest themselves as two distinct aspects; thus the Buddha's mind found expression as the written words of the Lotus Sutra. These written words are the Buddha's mind in a different form. Therefore, those who read the Lotus Sutra must not regard it as consisting of mere written words, for those words are in themselves the
Buddha's mind. "

Daishi reiterates: "Because the Lotus Sutra manifests the Buddha's spiritual
aspect, when one embodies that spiritual aspect in a wooden or painted image possessing thirty-one features, the image in its entirety becomes the living Buddha. "

You can fill that 32nd characteristic in different ways to obtain different results: "When one places a sutra in front of a wooden or painted image of the Buddha, the image becomes endowed with all thirty-two features. Yet, even though it has thirty-two, without the spiritual aspect it is no way equal to a Buddha, for even the being in the world of Humanity or Heaven may possess the thirty-two features. When the Gokai Sutra is placed before a wooden or painted image having thirty-one features, the image becomes equal to wheel-turning king. When the Juzen Ron is placed before it, the image becomes equal to Taishaku. When the Shutsuyoku Ron is placed before it, the image becomes equal to Bonten. But in none of these cases does it in any way become equal to a Buddha.

When an Agon sutra is placed in front of a wooden or painted image, the image becomes equal to a man of Learning. When one of the common prajna teachings, which were preached at the various ceremonies held during the Hodo and Hannya periods, is placed before it, the image becomes equal to a man of Realization. When one of the specific or perfect teachings preached during the Kegon, Hodo or Hannya period is placed before it, the image becomes equal to a bodhisattva. Yet in none of these cases either does it in any way become equal to a Buddha. "

Let's review this mathematically, where W=wooden image; P=painted image; L=Lotus Sutra read in to the image; A=Agon Sutra read into the image, B=the living Buddha and M=Man of learning. By the above, we know that:

W*A=M, a wooden image with the Agon Sutra read into it becomes equal to a man of learning.

P*A=M, a painted image with the Agon Sutra read into it becomes equal to a man of learning.

and we know that...

W*L=B, a wooden image with the Lotus Sutra read into it becomes equal to the living Buddha.

P*L=B, a painted image with the Lotus Sutra read into it becomes equal to the living Buddha.

From this it follows that W*L=P*L, since they both equal B. Thus it follows that W=P, that wooden and or painted images are of equal value, because in every case, when the Lotus Sutra is read into any such image, "IT NEVER FAILS" to become a living Buddha.

Finally, we also know that W*L does NOT = W*A, because of direct instruction by daishi.

From these we have conclusively proven that the physical characteristics of an object are irrelevant to that object equalling a "living Buddha" capable of being an Object of Worship. This mathematically contradicts the notion that one physical object, the Dai-Gohonzon of Taisekiji, is in any way different than any other mandala eye-opened in the same manner.

Now, Nichiren Daishi also had strict instructions as to HOW and by WHOM the Lotus Sutra is to be read into the physical object to "open it's eyes". Nichiren Shoshu accepts these instructions as valid, for they use them as justification for their argument that SGI gohonzons are invalid. Daishi instructs: "Unless one who has grasped the essence of the Lotus Sutra conducts the eye-opening ceremony for a wooden or painted image, it will be as if a masterless house were to be occupied by a thief or as if, upon a person's death, a demon were to enter his body. "

For Nichiren Shoshu to be said to have "grasped the essence of the Lotus Sutra", they of course would have had to understand the instructions of Nichiren Daishi.

Nichiren Shoshu contradicts daishi's teaching, even as they attempt to proclaim it, when they teach that the particularly large wooden plank Gohonzon housed at Taisekiji is something special and unique. To argue such, as we see clearly from the above, is to argue with daishi's own "math". Therefore the only conclusion possible is that Nichiren Shoshu does NOT "grasp the essence of the Lotus Sutra", because they are proving they do not understand Daishi's instructions.

Therefore I would conclude that the DaiGohonzon is NOT what it is sold to us to be by the priesthood of Nichiren Shoshu. Instead, it appears to be a mandala that was eye opened by someone NOT "grasping the essence of the Lotus Sutra".

Therefore those who genuflect towards this particular object (small "o") of worship are, in daishi's own words: "as if a masterless house were to be occupied by a thief or as if, upon a person's death, a demon were to enter his body."

THIS, by the way, is why we are here on ARBN to put out the warning to you and others. We care about you.

Now I understand you will have to try to refute these conclusions. To attempt to do so be warned. To refute this conclusion, you would either have to:

(1) Attempt to refute the legitimacy of this Gosho or argue that it is somehow rendered invalid by the advent of the DaiGohonzon. This argument has never been put forth by Nichiren Shoshu - in fact quite the opposite, so you would be arguing against your own priesthood.

(2) Attempt to argue that the DaiGohonzon was eye-opened by Nichiren Daishi himself, making the "pure and far reaching voice", the 32nd characteristic of the Buddha, a uniquely powerful thing worthy of singular devotion. There are two problems with doing this:

(a) Nichiren Shoshu has no record, nor does it claim that this has been done.
(b) There are specific mandalas known to have been inscribed by Nichiren Daishi and eye opened by him in existence today. Each of these would be in every way identical in importance and characteristic to the DaiGohonzon if the latter was in fact eye opened by Nichiren himself. (Remember daishi's own math on that point). However, Taisekiji has strenuously argued that even such mandalas are also without merit, because they aren't sanctioned by themselves.

In other words, to argue this point means contradicting Daishi's own instructions.

So there you have it. No historical assumptions one way or another, except reliance on the Gosho, translated by your sect and touted by your sect as supporting their doctrines.

Subsequent posts will explore other Gosho that contradict the notion of Taisekiji's uberplank as well as Taisekiji's dissembling contradictions in the mythology of the DaiGohonzon.
