"Question: What passages of scripture can you cite to support your contention that the person who believes but does not understand can attain the way?"

Answer: The thirty-second volume of the Nirvana Sutra says, “Although there are innumerable causes that lead to enlightenment, if one teaches faith, then that includes all those causes.” And in volume nine of the same sutra, we read: “Once you have finished listening to this sutra, then you will possess all of the various causes and conditions leading to enlightenment. When the voice of the Law and the Buddha’s shining light have entered into a person’s pores, then he will be certain toattain supreme enlightenment.” And the Lotus Sutra, as we have seen, says that one can “gain entrance through faith alone.” -- Nichiren

  1. There is no faith in the Soka Gakkai. They do not believe Nichiren. Nichiren states clearly, for example, that the Lotus Sutra is not an ecumenical scripture but SGI practices interfaith. Nichiren and the Lotus Sutra state clearly that Shakyamuni Buddha is to be viewed as parent, teacher and sovereign but the SGI takes Daisaku Ikeda as parent, teacher, and sovereign. Nichiren always wrote and chanted Namu Myoho renge kyo and SGI always writes and chants Nam Myoho renge kyo. Nichiren teaches the importance of good priests. SGI hates all priests. The list goes on and on.
