Yes, they embrace Goshos believed by many scholars and priests (and me) to be forged or Nichiren's earlier works. They worship a copy of a Nichikan Gohonzon, not a copy of a Nichiren Gohonzon. Personally, i would never again join the SGI and my 19 years in the SGI were my great regret in life. Be careful, be very careful. The only organized Nichiren group for which I have great respect is the Nipponzan Myohoji and their modern priest (deceased) leader, Nichidatsu Fuji and the disorganized priests and laymen of the independent movement who endeaver to have the same faith and practice as Nichiren. Some other Nichiren sects have forged documents in Nichiren's name or changed crucial passages (like SGI).
WOW, your second question would require a book, I will summarize.
I have a serious life threatening ailment of average life expectancy five years. I'm at 6 years and mostly feel good. Of the 157 peple in my clinic, for five years, I was the only one working full time. Now I'm semi retired. When I suffer, it is because of pain from head to toe, weakness, and brain fog, not infrequently, after dialysis, I maintain my practice no matter what, invariably chanting Namu Myoho renge kyo and the suffering disappears. For pain, I only take tylenol with codeine. For suffering I take Namu Myoho renge kyo.
I have the most splendid family life thanks to the Lotus Sutra (Myoho renge kyo and Shakyamuni Buddha of the Juryo Chapter of the Lotus Sutra)...The Law and the Buddha is embodied in the Gohonzon. I have the most supportive wife and succesful children and my wife and daughter chant. My family also consists of my grandchildren, and two of the most gentle wolfdogs on the face of the earth, a Great Pyrenees, and a Springer Spaniel. I also have some of the most sincere and compassionate friends on the face of the earth. They have assisted us in our hours of needs. I call them my protectors or Buddhist gods. We live on a mountain in the country surrounded by nature and now that I'm semi-retired, I am playing poker to supplement my income and I am very successful. Though I study poker, I never fail to do Gongyo and chant Namu Myoho renge kyo before playing and I've won 9 out of the last 10 sessions. No one could have a life more fortunate than i, save for the Buddha and Nichiren Daishonin. I love my faith and practice, not to mention my family and friends and I know they love me.
I have had many mystical experiences chanting the Gohonzon and the longer I practice the more experiences I have. I see the Gohonzon as the life and land of the Eternal Buddha who is bestowing upon me (us) Namu myoho renge kyo. Once, all the characters of the Gohonzon became more golden and bright than 24 carrat gold and three dimensional (for about a minute). Though i kept chanting, I almost feinted with joy.

Two of his young disciples were murdered and Nikkyo had his nose and ears cut off). 150 years after his martydom, the Kempon Hokke rehabilitated him. I overlook the indiscretions of the Nipponzon Myoho-ji because their priests and nuns desire little and are celibate as was Nichiren and they perform a type of forceful practice in the mold of Neverdespise. i am not however a member because of their mixing of Gandhism with Buddhism and their interfaith initiatives,

ReplyDeleteWell then how do you feel about Craig the Administrator of Stand Together Nichiren Buddhists who is a devoted member of Nipponzan Myohoji who thinks karmic retribution, rebirth etc are BS.He outrightly said that Nichiren is not his teacher but the present Nipponzan leader who approved of him using the LGBT flag to represent the 564 member that are on that site. He and his associates changed their facebook picture regardless what anyone else thought So thoughtless and selfish. Do you see that he endeavers to have the same faith and practice as Nichiren?

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't know that about him nor the Nipponzon Myohoji, only the beautiful across country walks. Never read most of Craig's posts. He criticized me for my forceful practices and admonishment of the provisional Buddhists, SGI and the like, so I rarely go there. I'd be interested in what there priests who have taken a "vow of poverty and celibacy) believe about Nichiren. Thanks for the heads up. Will stop my approval of their sect. Thanks again.
