This is my opinion... Tientai called the practice of the Lotus Sutra in the Middle Day of the Law, "Great Concentration and Insight. This was a silent meditation in order to realize the Three Thousand Realms in a Moment of Existence (Tientai's "Ichinen Sanzen"). Nichiren taught that Tientai's Great Concentration and Insight was a theoretical exposition of Ichinen Sanzen or "Theoretical" Ichinen Sanzen. He also taught, in the Latter Day, his teaching of the chanting of Namu Myoho renge kyo to the Gohonzon was an actual exposition of Ichinen Sanzen or "Actual" Ichinen Sanzen.
Nevertheless, Nichiren taught, that for those of superior capacity, one may also practice Great Concetration and Insight. In my mind, I think it follows that Great Concentration and Insight for this Latter Day is a silent meditation contemplating Namu Myoho renge kyo, the Eternal Buddha/Gohonzon, and/or the Ceremony in the Air. Any thoughts?
For me it's all happening. Thinking about it and practice it in silent and active mode!
ReplyDeleteMe too but 95+% chanting Namu Myoho renge kyo and Gongyo. Have you seen my discussion with a Japanese linguist under post name, "What do you wish me to discuss or debate"?
ReplyDeleteSuffer what there is to suffer, enjoy what there is to enjoy. Regard both suffering and joy as facts of life and continue chanting Namu-myoho-renge-kyo, no matter what happens. Then you will experience boundless joy from the Law. Strengthen your faith more than ever.
ReplyDeleteWith my deep respect,
Nichiren

Namu Myoho Renge Kyo fully visualised in the form of Nichiren's 10 world depicted Gohonzons of the 3 truths is actual & contemplating Namu Myoho renge kyo, the Eternal Buddha/Gohonzon is what I do. Good to know that it can be both or one or the other with Nichiren's approval
ReplyDeleteNichirens Gohonzons are the oneness of the 3 truths from which causes the 3 bodied Tathagatta thus come one eternal Buddha to rise from within!
