Marty: Are they chanting the daimoku? Isn't daimoku the "excellent medicine" for this age? The perfect teaching is accessible to ALL of us ignorant people in this age. But you contend that knowledge of doctrines is essential?
Mark: Chanting the Daimoku doesn't give anyone the right to alter the doctrines and principles of the Lotus Flower Sutra and Nichiren regardless of the reason (through ignorance, malice, or agenda). Is not the Object of Devotion part of the good excellent medicine? Is it OK to change or alter the Object of Devotion through ignorance, malice, or agenda? The Atsuhara Martyrs probably knew little about "doctrine" because they were illiterate. Today. 99% of people are literate. Everyone should know the Three Great Secret Laws and the Three Treasures of Nichiren Lotus Sutra Buddhism. Because people are ignorant of the Three Great Secret Laws and Three Treasures of Nichiren Lotus Sutra Buddhism, there is no unity. How many know of all the exploits of the fictitious figure, Shinichi Yamamoto but don't know the correct Three Treasures and Three Great Secret Laws of Nichiren Lotus sutra Buddhism?
Marty: Oops! Not so fast. Nichiren wrote to individuals whom he knew-- his followers! Yet here you are acting like you should take it upon yourself to attack those who embrace the daimoku on the grounds they "lack knowledge of profound doctrines"?
Mark: He also wrote to his renegade disciples and those who were not his followers. Is not Namu Myoho renge kyo a profound doctrine? With strong and CORRECT faith, according to the Lotus Sutra and Nichiren, one comes to understand, the appearance, nature, and entity of the Law of cause and effect. In misunderstanding this Law, the Three Great Secret Laws and the Three Treasures, is proof that ones faith is neither strong nor correct.
Marty: Looks to me like you aren't following Nichiren yourself.
Mark: You have not proven your baseless assertion.
You may be correct about doctrines, but incorrect about their significance with regard to “practicing the LS in this age”-- and clearly way off base in your methods of conveying what you have learned from your own study. You attack and demean believers and gloss over the teachings shared or even the personal experience they share. you disregard the validity of the perfect teaching when you do this and seek to intimidate, defame and marginalize believers who disagree with you. NOT in harmony with Nichiren, Mark. Your own words prove this.
